You clearly don’t watch art House or independent films… The kind that get nominated for Oscars. Films like this are made all the time. You’re just living in the past
The funny thing is, in that universe, the answer is that no, you're not going to die. In that universe, souls and the afterlife is real. So there's no such thing as death, just passing on to the next stage of your existence. Joe Black is nothing more than a glorified taxi-service in that universe.
He's the boat man that takes you across the river styx. There was an old tradition, some still do it of placing two coins on the body's eyes. The coins were to pay the boat man.
This movie was a hit because it had the first teaser for The Phantom Menace playing with it so people would pay to see Meet Joe Black just to watch the trailer (long before TH-cam lol). A lot of people would then get up and leave without even watching the movie.
It's either him talking to himself during his final moments, or, and hear me out on thus one, one of the three harbingers of death actually did come in to see this man off, it seems like something zariel or thanatos would do.
Today, the average 30 seconds attention span person would be bored immediately, not keeping up without all the effects psychedelia on current movies to keep the brain busy. Sad thing.
Good movie. That has a lot of meaning. I always wondered when he had the chest pain/tightness in bed or the issue in his office, could he had went to the ER and got it checked out. Heart attack I assume. Just curious. Or did it really already happen and death kept him around past his expiration? I am figuring that is it. But man I would of still went to the ER. Lol
Death cites several times Bill has had cardiac symptoms, so my interpretation is that Bill's big one has not happened yet, but it is on Death's schedule, probably this very day had Death not decided to take a holiday instead. Bill is a busy, powerful man and it's easy to convince yourself that those symptoms aren't really that important; after all nothing happened last time, or the time before that. And it really is a horrible and embarrassing nuisance if you show up at the ER with a false alarm. (Been there. After my own bona fide life-saving stent was installed, went back about a year later for what turned out to be heartburn, and they insisted on keeping me overnight for all kinds of observation even though the initial test showed my heart was doing fine.) As for this warning, Death has probably made Bill realize that it's now too late and he'll likely drop where he stands if he doesn't go along with Death's request to be his guide to our world for awhile.
