    Amazing demonstration of what this little keyboard can do. You could only dream of this quality of sound 20 years ago at this price.

    Just purchased Roland's WC-1 wifi thumb drive...so easy to load up new styles and sounds...this is so much easier than loading styles from either yamaha or korg arrangers.

    The keyboard and features sounds amazing.. But I've been reading about people having crackling issues with the speakers. Have you noticed?

    • @phillc
      @phillc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      When ramped up to the max, there could be some vibrations although not outright crackling. I try not to out-max them and use them with headphones or external speakers when I need to let loose.

      @@phillc That's good to know.. For me as long as they perform well at low-mid level, I'd be happy.. Maybe those that got units that crackled at those levels just had bad luck on the hardware.. Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Amazing keyboard
    I was wondering in each GM Sound Bank does it work?!…
    Comparable to the Korg EX-50L sound speaking… I use personalise MIdi Files as playback instead of Styles… I’ve recently returned the Korg i3 because of the sounds and now I’m trying to find out witch is the best option for me… is it possible to mix GM sound with others sound on the same Midi and recorded like that?…
    Best regards from Funchal…

    • @phillc
      @phillc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Funchal, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, my knowledge about GM Sound banks in my keyboards is quite limited. I have never really immersed myself into the GM world other than playing the sounds in GM banks randomly. I would suggest this as a Roland question, alternatively someone else can chime in here. Cheers!

    Do you get used to the 61 keys? How do you combat that when you want that full ~81 key range?

    • @phillc
      @phillc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @elazarkotkes, I grew up with the 61 keys for a very long time so i just shift into that mode and focus more on the music than what I am missing! I can cope ok. 88 keys works for me on piano more than anything else but the challenge of just having 61, makes me stretch my capability. A nice challenge. I have a 3 octave Micro Korg too so that helps me cope too.

  • @mugman100

    With the original gokeys you can layer by pressing record, then playing your recording while playing something over the top, and continue on making a full song. Kind of like looping but actually layering. I just bought a 5 and when I press the record button while a previous recording is playing, it doesn’t record over the top, it stops and starts a new recording. How to you record over the top on the new 5? Thanks much

    Hey! I hope you can help me: Is it normal that while using a scene the sound you do on the keybed yourself is very low? I looked up the mixer and keybed is 127 tone and others too. Thank you.

    • @phillc
      @phillc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. Without headphones on, it could sound low, but you need to keep the volume high in your mixer, amp or DAW. Remember there are some sounds that are so poor, you have to double them as a layer using DUAL. Or lower the style accompaniment to balance things out.

    I'm torn between the 3 and the 5. $350.00 seems to be as much as I care to spend on a small undersized unweighted keyboard. I have had keyboards this same size going back 30 years ago. Of course this sounds much better. I know you feel the 5 is worth the extra $150.00. The problem is that' for $500.00 you are getting into the fully weighted 88 key instruments. The two allegedly sound about the same. The main thing I see is the expression pedal input in the 5 which is always nice if you are serious player. To me this thing sounds dynamite. I think there could be a 88 key version with a weighted action on the drawing boards at Roland. The advantage of these smaller one is their portability. There could still be very valid reasons for choosing the smaller ones so I guess the real question is 3 or 5?

    • @phillc
      @phillc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey George! Why do you think you need GO KEYS 5?
      Here is some sense-making:
      - Will you perform outside for the horses at the barn? Lol I know you love them, but you ain't playing outside!
      - Will you be singing? If no, you do not need 5
      - Will you be playing live into an amplifier to split L/R? If not, you do not need 5
      - If this is for home, personal use, 3 is sufficient, you can always buy a splitter constraint: Stereo 1/8 inch jack into L/R
      Let me know your thoughts.
      Cheers!

      @@phillc I'm not a singer. The reason I would get the a GO Keys in addition to my DGX is for the Chord Sequencer. I always wanted the DGX for the automation, but as you know, I find the user interface too complex on the DGX. To me the Go Keys seems far more understandable. In the meantime my DGX works well as a concert grand when combined in tandem with Pianoteq. I use a total of 5 piano voices to create my grand piano tone which is extremely realistic. The DGX fattens up Pianoteq, and Pianoteq makes the DGX much more authentic in terms of the acoustic grand piano sound. I appreciate your videos and commentary. I consider you to be a technology genius.
      As for the Go Keys, it is the bet small most versatile little keyboard I've every heard. The sound is totally professional. It's going to sell more units than the DX7.

    The entire problem with "today's styles", is just that. "Today". A built in obsolescence that's plagued every instrument that could ever boast having "today's styles". You can still get on and play some great keys from the past. No doubt. But are you ever going to touch those "Bossa Nova" or "foxtrot" settings?
    Kind of doubtful...
    ...but if you ever do something cool with them, though, let me know!

      @@sirtom3011 I appreciate your perspective 👊 I focus on the chordal choices and the improvisation when I use styles and accompaniment. For full-blown albums I often bring in my guitarist my drummer, bassist and others or I use a different keyboard to sequence tracks.
