I was very happy to see this video, Raymond. Most TH-cam vloggers have ignored the SDXC card. Like you, I generally use the 2nd card slot, in both my Z8 and Z9 as an overflow source. Last weekend I shot 20,000 frames in four days at a regional dog show. Before the Z9 I had a D850 and having the second card slot be a SDXC card was just the way it was, so when I bought the Z8 and its 20 fps capability on the first day for orders, the SDXC slot really didn't cause any anxiety for me. Also, coming from the D850 (with battery grip) at 9 fps to both the Z8 and Z9, I usually dial the burst mode down to 15 fps and have great success in a 2 or 3 second burst in capturing that special moment of movement that I'm after with both the dog and the handler at full stride. After watching your video, just for fun I tested the Z8 with only a San Disk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS II V90 card in it at 15 fps. I was able to shoot 35 frames before the buffer kicked in. That's quite unscientific on my part, but the point is if I ever do fill up the CFExpress card, then the SDXC UHS II card card handle a lot of my workflow. I'm certainly going to look at picking up a couple of the Kingston Canvas React Plus UHS II cards after watching your video. By the way, using 512GB cards last weekend, I was able to capture 7100 frames in one day on the Z9 (mostly in burst mode) without the camera overflowing to the 2nd slot. The most I shot in one day on the Z8 was 3492 frames on one 512GB card (with plenty of frames left to shoot if necessary) while using about 80% of the 2 battery set-up on the Z8 with the Nikon Battery Grip installed. I don't shoot much video, but I'm certainly more than happy with both cameras given my use case.

Thanks, John. My use case is similar and I also *rarely* shoot at 20fps. So the SD slot is fine, either way.
I am also impressed by the performance of this card: th-cam.com/video/D8_qRu17Qmo/w-d-xo.html

Great test! I usually use tethering when need to must have content although I never have issue with memory card failure.

I trust you had the sunscreen on Ray! I mean on the camera that is, as well as you. I don't think that I have ever dared leave my camera sitting in the sun like that, and I have been using Nikons for the past 40+years!
Also, 'er indoors needs to drop a hint for you to get some physical photoshopping done on that pillar cap/coping! It's killing me!! 😉😂😁
Lovely video as is usual. Thank you.

LOL!😂 Whadd'ya mean, just freshly sealed and painted! You're not the first to comment, but I can't be arsed -- too busy making photos and video. My handyman days are over.

@@RaymondParkerPhoto gives me something to detract from your brilliant videos though!
I do find your presentation very good and your little laugh great...huh... huh... huh... not to mention your content which is always pertinent, fair and intelligent and entertaining. So I had to try to find something unwitty to wittily wit on about!
Keep up the good work and I can only agree with you... the Z8 is simply brilliant. I love mine that is for sure!

I’m curious what’s the sustained average framerate once the buffer is full in backup mode? And is it affected by JPEG vs RAW written to the SDXC card?

Hey Raymond are you looking at the 180-600?

Well, yes, I've looked at it. But unlikely to buy it 😀. My 400mm f/4.5 with TCs cover my needs.
