I'm here because of Caroline Winkler. I'm loving your content and channel already! Pure, raw, (even brutal) honesty is legitimately a rare trait nowadays. We need more of it in today's culture/world.
Edit: 08:20 ahhhh I could not agree more! I really dislike those mass produced knickknacks. There's no life in it or story behind it.. The likelihood of one of your neighbors owning that same piece is very high.
I have found the most random of things make the best bookshelf decor. Vintage cameras, small moody lights to accentuate your books, a couple collectible items, colored glass vases, etc.

Trust me Paige, you do not want to see the terrible concrete on my patio. The builders did a terrible job. It’s cracking, it has drops of paint, and who knows what else. But it’s a small area, so a nice outdoor rug hides most of it. There may come a time when I have the 💵 to fix the concrete patio and expand it. Till then, I’m happy to have “wasted” $60 on a nice neutral cream indoor/outdoor rug that can be easily vacuumed AND hosed, and hides the mess underneath.

Grommets do kind off give off bathroom curtain vybes but they also make the curtains easy to pull and last longer than fabric loops which tend to tear with use. I think they are ok if the rest of the curtain looks to have a nice quality dense type of fabric.

I know she’s going to have a laugh about this and will probably say she’s “TH-cam Famous” when I tell her about it tomorrow.
In her defense, she built a Modern Farmhouse home with a heavy emphasis on Modern [more specifically MCM] and just a little bit of Farmhouse. The bench was her “Farmhouse” influence…plus, you’re right, her kids love the bench and it provided a seat with easy cleanup when they are working on projects at the kitchen table.

    Paige,
How do you feel about those organization shows like The Home Edit or Marie Kondo?
I personally like Marie Kondo but the The Home Edit girls give me anxiety for some reason. It's so pretty but too perfect.

    • @stormwright8300
      @stormwright8300 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Marie Kondo is cool. Her advice is great, even though people misrepresent her words. Her folding techniques are also super helpful.
I feel like I've seen Home Edit on TH-cam, but I couldn't get through an episode. I thought they were obnoxious and a little disrespectful. They talked so much about nothing, it didn't seem like they included the homeowner in anything, which made it feel impersonal and unsustainable. In the episode I saw, as soon as the girl left, they called her stuff "crap", then they ate cupcakes-she was a baker- in her room and got crumbs everywhere. And in one of the drawers, the lady had an adult toy. When they were cleaning, one of the girls found it and her assistant tried to tell her to put it down. She finally figured out what it was and put it back, but it felt so rude. Like they didn't even cut that footage. I know she probably consented or something, but I know I would not have been ok with that footage.

Hahaha love these! We did a whole wall of 30-40 empty black frames maybe 5-7 years ago for a Halloween party and a friend said it best-- it REALLY disturbed them and they felt as if souls were removed from the photos -- I mean we were going for a creepy Victorian vibe so yeah I guess that's why we did it?? I just thought it looked cool and I needed to spook up a large space -- but for everyday decor?? Not for me 💀

100%! When an accent color is overused it's no longer an "accent" but becomes the main color. The whole point of an accent is to bring in a 3rd color (or more) so it doesn't look flat and boring, or one dimensional.

A lot of times on the bottom of the curtains with grommets they have an opening that you can slide a rod through and hang them upside down. Cut the section with the grommets off and either sew the hem or use hem tape

That’s exactly what I did some time ago. I needed 4 panels, but they were too short. So I bought five. I cut off the grommet strip off each. I cut the fifth panel in four equal pieces. I stitched one piece to each of the 4 panels on the end that I had cut off and hemmed them to length. Whala!

The empty frames….put an interesting antique/vintage piece in them. A smaller framed portrait or art piece (small pieces are often more affordable and adding a frame around its frame increases it’s visual impact), a small clock, a piece of textile art, your grandpas war medals, your grandmas iconic bead necklace…something that usually ISNT hung on a wall, no longer has functional purpose but has an interesting design or enough sentimental value that it shouldn’t be shoved in a drawer or cluttering a table.
It becomes an engaging display that encourages conversation and ESPECIALLY a beautiful way to keep the memories of your relatives that have passed on alive. People will ask “what is this?” Or “who did that belong too and why do you have it hanging?” bc the act of putting a frame around it is a visual cue that the piece is important for the homeowner which is intriguing to people

I an putting a rug that will cover the entire destroyed and disgusting concrete on the balcony of a flat, we are going to rent to a student.
I would prefer to put wood but it is way too expensive. The rug will at least be the size of the entire balcony since it is small so I am ok with it. The builders tried to tell me to put faux grass over it and I was like: hell to the no

I bet some of those shelf accessories are so popular because they run rampant on pinterest and people don't have another good source to find more classic design ideas.

I say buy and display what you’re drawn to whether it’s trendy or vintage. That vintage stuff you like, was once a trend and is no more authentic than something new IMO. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it wasn’t mass produced at one time. If you love something and it has a special meaning or memory attached to it, put it out where you can see it often. Other accessories might be purely aesthetic…things that make your heart sing every time you look at them. This is not an either/ or proposition. Btw, I love cowhides and furry things and large natural gemstones…on or off a stick. I’m drawn to natural materials and handcrafted items from around the world.

I love, love, love your channel, but, yes there's a but..lol. I think grommet curtains are much easier to open and close and therefore last longer. As long as you have enough curtains and not just one or two hanging up against a large window. Number 2. I have to have my outdoor rug. It does pull everything together. Other than that.. I agree with everything else you said. Keep on bringing us that attitude...we love it.

I think they were fake? or dried, one or the other laying on a shelf, like I said she was moving in....so I put one of those hydrangeas in the mddle of the frame. Just connected it to the wall in the middle of the frame. It was white the frame was a warm black. I thought it looked so good!
