Batman: Power Records 1970's - Robin Meets Manbat

  • Batman Bruce Wayne, Robin Dick Grayson, The Joker, Jim Gordon.
    art by Neil Adams.
    In the 1970's there was a recording company called POWER RECORDS. They made small books that contained comic book stories & came with a 45 rpm record to listen to. Basically you would listen to the story while reading the book. It sort of taught you how to read & the recording sounded a lot like the old-time radio shows because it has voice actors, music, & sound effects. They were really great! They made a ton of these with all kinds of characters like GI Joe, Six Million Dollar Man, Superman, plus many more. They even made a few of them with Batman characters ( Joker, Scarecrow, Catwoman, etc...).

    I had this book and record as a kid. I used to be in awe of the artwork, and read it constantly. Glad to see it still is holding up. Thanks for posting this.

      I just met him at the Michigan ComicCon and spoke to him for awhile. He was pretty interesting and had some criticism for how WB/DC is handling the DC Movies. I had him sign my Detective #400 (1st Man-Bat). Yes, he was a class act indeed.

    It's insane that Neal Adams's amazing art was used to illustrate what was a cheap kids' throwaway record.

    • @Ian-hj4yt
      @Ian-hj4yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you mean? The 70s comics were still for kids, just not as campy as the last 2 decades

    • @julianhermanubis6800
      @julianhermanubis6800 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ian-hj4yt No, not all comics in the 1970s were for kids, e.g., Warren Publishing, Skywald, Marvel black-and-white titles, "Heavy Metal" and its many copycats, plus dozens of underground titles. Try again. I can tell you've never read anything from that era.

    • @Ian-hj4yt

      @@julianhermanubis6800 I'm talking about Batman

    • @julianhermanubis6800
      @julianhermanubis6800 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ian-hj4yt I'd say the better Batman titles from that era were such that an older reader could probably read them and enjoy them as well as the customary kid audience, e.g., the Neal Adams issues or the Marshall Rogers run.

    • @Ian-hj4yt
      @Ian-hj4yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@julianhermanubis6800 That was the point. Those comics feel like a sequel to the Adam West series but with a slightly darker tone. The same old lighthearted Batman facing scarier villains without Robin.
