    hi John, well done, I think its your best video, envious of seeing you do some proper fishing, lovely looking stretch you were on, would you ever consider fishing a slider in that area,

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks John, very kind of you to say so. The only time I'd fish a slider there would be with a waggler slider to the far bank over the feeder line - that's one way you can pick up an extra fish or two when the feeder dies. I wouldn't fish a slider down the middle or on the inside crease though as the bolo on the long rod affords so much better presentation, control and gets you fishing in the deep water quicker than waiting for a slider to settle.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel

      I'm not so bothered about me getting wet, it's the groundbait and bait that I try to protect with the brolly, hate fishing under them but I was glad of it that day. I can't disagree, the fishing has been hard for me most of this year, thanks for watching my struggles 👍

    thats more like it...PROPER match fishing...! enjoyed that.... all i could suggest... id like to have seen you try the feeder over yo balled in groundbait line, the bigger Bream like it nailed to the bottom ive found..... and i recently tried the fjuka black 6mm soft pellet garlick flavour... they were bloody good for bream i rekon theyd be good over hemp.... lovely bit o river..

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point, it might have found me another bream. I once did exactly that over the pole line on the Blackwater Canal in Holland and went from struggling for a bite to winning the match with bream. I'm not so sure about Fjuka, I've tried them on commercials without success, but not the black ones, though a halibut pellet will probably do the same but it's just a massive gamble fishing non-natural baits for bream and silvers on a river match.

      5 mins or 3 ounces more - tell me about it Stan! As for the rain, I don't mind when it's like that but no doubt in another month it'll set in for the next 6 months and I'll be wiping mud off the gear every week, summer has all but disappeared here in Yorkshire. Keep cool and hydrated mate 🍺

    Unlucky mate and the sphere end sections seem to be breaking quite a lot

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Clinton, I'm guessing it took a knock in transit, I've had the rod 4 years and it's been sound up until that moment. I guess that's the problem with high quality carbon, they always seem more susceptible to breakages - it's the same with poles, the more you pay, the less resilient they are.

    John... Long time no chat mate..... interestingly have never fished this Earth Centre stretch and living in Sheffield I should be. Some interesting tactics here, no flow, snaggy peg etc wondering if you were impressed pal.. Not wet a line this season yet but have penciled in a Wharfe trip...ULLESKELF for a dabble. Take it easy IAN

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, I had an aternoon/evening trip to skelf early season, it wasn't fishing very well. I actually have a free weekend from matches this week so I may head back there for a dabble - can't believe you haven't been out yet, hope all's ok? As for the earth centre it is fairly slow flowing normally and at times it increases either due to lock or hydro turbine activity but eases off again after a few minutes, it wasn't really snaggy just the inside weeds made reaching for fish imperative. I'm told it fishes really well in pleasure conditions and 100lb bags are frequent.

    Hi john well done so close when a skimmer costs. What do advice on these bollo rods i have never used one and know nothing about them i think these could work well on our river yare it's often 10/ 12 ft deep and quite fast at times but big sticks can be deadly

    • @AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp
      @AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Trevor. Check out the Daiwa bolos. The 6 m should suit. I use it on the middle level at anywhere between 12 and 14 foot. Much easier than fishing the slider. Great for roach just off the bottom.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally at 10 to 12ft deep, I'd just use a long rod, they're lighter and have more rings so prevent line sticking to the blank when its wet. I was using the 17ft Acolyte here. The further out you are fishing will then dictate the length to help you get control of the line and mend it to keep behind the float but if you're trotting down the inside you could get away with 15ft quite easily. As a rule of thumb I like 3ft of line between tip ring and float when holding the rig to cast out, any less and you'll start to struggle like I did on the bandits match on the Aire - I needed my 20fter that day in 16ft of water.

    Would you not consider dropping the feeder on the bolo line when the bites drop off. Sometimes they might respond better to a stationary bait rather than a moving one.

    Brilliant John well done mate , great days fishing you can't say you didn't try mate. You know I have watched your vids from when you fist came up on youtube to now and I honestly think you fishing has progressed so much . I remember you used to keep changing your tactics every 10 minutes and you didn't think about what you were doing , now your movements flow smoothly and you give your swim time to build up rather than hit and miss. Keep it up mate . John I have a question for you do you suffer with high blood pressure or do you have respatory problems ?. the reason I ask this is because I have high blood pressure at the moment and your breathing sounds just like mine. Please don't take this the wrong way but I noticed it on this video.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert, no I don't have high blood pressure but I do have asthma. The microphone is very sensitive so if it's too close, it literally picks up every breath and amplifies it.

  • @martinsereika1298

    Hiya John I have a little OCD I think I'm watching your videos and loving them by the way. Very informative because you talk us through the match cast by cast. But I always wonder why when you have the rod rest out (the orange and black guru one) you don't adjust it so the high sides are upright instead of always facing towards you? It's my issue not yours but I always wonder why you have it like that is there a particular reason why?

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin, that's a keen eye you've got and a great question. The reason I don't have those end stops pointing upwards is purely because they are not required for this style of fishing, they're their to prevent the r.od pulling off the rest when fishing for carp on the method. I've actually had instances in the past when I've gone to pick the rod up on strike and the line has caught around them. Check out 26.13 on this video th-cam.com/video/wzozTi7x6j4/w-d-xo.html when I was using the long guru rest.
