Today I'm speaking about my recent fake fragrance purchase Experience. After my two recent fake fragrance purchase experiences, I will not be buying fragrances from unknown stores. This has happened twice in two months apart and the experience is bad. Thankfully I can contact American Express to help with this kind of situation when it happens. Have you ever encountered this type of situation of buying fake fragrances? Please let me know, add a comment below. Let me know what you did to resolve this situation.

-Color of the design work in the fake bottle is actually shinier gold in comparison to real bottles and the reverse of what happened with Box
-Ribbon colors and thickness different from real bottle to fake bottle
-Cap colors off
-Fragrance
-There’s no smell when the cap is removed
-In comparison to real fragrance when you remove the cap you can smell even in an empty bottle of The Voice Of The Snake
-The actual fragrance when sprayed smells so wrong and hardly anything there and I pick up light rose in comparison to the original The Voice Of The Snake which is all Dark Oud with smoky, nutty, leathery touches.

this was my first thought. of all the people to try and scam. also, American express is going to look at Sebastian's buying history and realize he spends thousands on fragrances without disputing. i doubt he just randomly decided to dispute this one.

I'd like to mention this channel called Fragrance Tattoo - it is dedicated to detecting fake fragrances and is probably one of the most underrated fragrance channels on TH-cam in terms of the importance of what he's doing.

As Russian, I agree that there's a lot, I mean A LOT of fakes.
As a perfume collector, I never buy fragrances from Russian eBay.
You should be EXTREMELY careful while you buy from the internet,no matter Russian, American, Indian or whatsoever.

One thing I've learned is NEVER to buy from Russia especially (I was scammed, but thankfully ebay reimbursed me), but to be very, very wary of buying from other countries through ebay.
Luckily you had the real one to compare it to, imagine the dozens of poor people who don't :(

A lot of people have no idea about Russia. They think because it's a European country then it's ok!! What's even worse is the brave souls who actually go there to do business!! I'm quite familiar with how they operate so I'll avoid them @ all cost!!

Thank you for this. As a fragrance lover and collector myself, I too have fallen victim to unscrupulous sellers. Yes of course we mostly purchase from the actual stores and reputable online businesses, but once in a while we take a gamble and it's hard not to resist a good deal. But most of us know when we have it in our hands whether it is authentic or not - be it the quality, the weight, the smell and in general the overall feel and our intuitive radars on alert. However, it is so disheartening because not everyone is a collector or a fraghead, perhaps someone just wants a good deal on a hot item and unfortunately they will be none the wiser. Everyone should be able to enjoy an authentic product that they've spent their hard earned money on and have an authentic experience. Love your channel, newly subscribed.
I bought Opus Xi of of FragranceX and the scent didn't last 30 minutes. I had smelled the original at Etiket and of course it was $450 of real quality juice.
FragranceX accepted the return at 25% less the original cost and i had to fork out the shipping costs. But I will never buy from FragranceX again!
Sorry to see that you got scammed.I once bought a Creed Aventus for my son that was clearly fake.The packaging was not right;the printing was poor and fuzzy;and it was wrapped in cellophane ,which the original does not come in.I bought it through Ebay.My son was incandescent about it,and being a highly articulate and bright journalist,contacted the seller about the matter.Within the hour we had a full refund.Interesting about locations to buy from.I bought some Creed Geranium Vetiver from Azerbaijan and afterwards thought I must be mad!But it arrived perfectly and was actually Creed.I took the risk because of the very high cost of Creed in the U.K.But oh that sinking feeling when you buy an obvious fake !! So frustrating.Glad that you got your money back.I really enjoy your channel and have purchased several fragrances as a result of your recommendations---recently a couple of discontinued Guerlain fragrances,and Caron Pour un Homme,which I had never heard of.Many thanks for your valuable advice.
I bought a fake 200 mL Fahrenheit on eBay. I disputed it and got a refund from Paypal. I also purchased a fake Gucci Pour Homme (1978) on eBay. I did not check it for over a month, but when I did I realized I got ripped off and had no recourse. I even had left those criminals positive feedback, which I regret.
Always check your fragrances immediately when you purchase from someone new. Dispute fakes immediately. Keep records and save packaging.
I live in Australia. Never heard of that seller. Will let people know in my community.
Sorry that this happened to you, and thanks for sharing. I wish more people would name companies they were scammed by. I’m always scared of fakes not just because of $ loss, but they can contain harmful chemicals.
I purchased Chanel Noir on eBay for about $60. I felt it was too good to be true, especially since Chanel is really serious about selling their products through discounters. I bought it anyways, and figured $60 wasn't the biggest risk. Well, the bottle was nearly identical but the atomizer fell off within seconds of using and it was a lightly scented water. I kept the bottle for décor, but will never spray it. Who knows what's really in it! I am not sure I would have caught it being fake if I was not into fragrances and known what things smell like.
i've encountered numerous russian fakes that actually smell real its so hard to tell! and i'm talking Kilian, Byredo, MFK, Van Cleef and even LV! it's only when you place the bottles or packaging side by side that you see the flaws, but not everyone has that luxury! :(
THANK YOU!!! This is very helpful for things to look for. I found this old video because I think I purchased a fake Maison Margiela Replica fragrance on eBay. It was in cellophane and everything, looked legit, but when I sprayed it I knew something was off. I only had a travel spray (bought direct from the brand) to compare to but was running out. I really wanted a full bottle of the real stuff, so I just bought another full bottle directly from MM. It arrived today & I compared every detail from the packaging, the bottles, the font and placement of wording on the boxes. Even the photo they print on the box was much darker on the fake one. The font on the fake packaging all had a sort of shadow effect on it, and on the fake Replica bottle (with the cloth labels) the font was all patchy as if their printer was running out of ink 😂 The colors of the liquids were also different. And then the smell. I tested it against the real full bottle and I just keep getting alcohol at first and then faint rosewater-like scent, that dissipates quickly. I could smell the authentic one as soon as I opened the box.
I guess I should file a claim with eBay although I kinda feel bad because I'm not sure if the seller even knew it was fake. They have 82 5-star ratings and only have maybe 6 items listed, only 2 or 3 are fragrances. They aren't a high volume seller scamming out hundreds of people with fakes (it seems). And they sent me a discount on it to begin with, along with a nice message. I dunno if I should just accept the loss (it was too good to be true money) or try to get it back. I took photos of everything but I just don't know what the right thing to do would be. Glad AmEx helped out in your situation, that is good to know as well.

Dont buy perfumes from Russia on eBay, mostly of them are fake. I got scammed so many times. Memo, Le labo, Byredo, Gucci and Kilian. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for making this video. I started my fragrance journey just 6 months ago, and it's hard to know- which sites are reputable and which aren't. I try to research the site I'm buying from, but even consumer reviews and comments can be faked. It's great that you are warning others about scammers. Again- thanks for doing that.
Sorry to see this happened to you . It happened to me once when I ordered a bottle of Carner Barcelona El Born so I know how upsetting and frustrating this can be . Just take it as a learning experience which is what I did and thank you for sharing.

My worst experience came when Bloomingdales sent me an open box with an empty bottle in it. Because of pandemic it took months to get it resolved. I did need a box so when I returned it I asked if they did not need it if the would send me the box back and they did.
Also, I made a purchase from Poshmark. I recommend anyone using them to do what I did...Before I clicked acceptance I tested the fragrance against a sample and weighed the bottle against a full one from the same house. I was so glad everything lined up and 6 hours after applying the fragrance and it have a perfect match, I released the funds.
Sebastian, Selfridges has niche and exclusive fragrances for cheaper than the US department stores. Shipping is expensive but if you order a lot, then paying for a whole year of shipping is worth it.
If it's too good to be true it usually is. You should always check a site or platform's reviews before buying from it and ask in any fragrance groups you may be a part of to see if anyone has had a good reaction. I have never heard of eCRATER before but they look like the typical scam site setting up and moving to different regions.
For this particular site there are a lot of negative reviews on multiple platforms complaining of not receiving anything or being scammed, legitimate businesses having their identity copied by a seller and then those businesses suffer from negative reviews when they had nothing to do with eCRATER. Buyer beware.

I was in a similar situation. I bought a bottle on eBay, it came from Russia. The bottle didn’t come for almost 4 months so I disputed and the seller refunded. The bottle did come not long after, upon testing, it smelled exactly the same to the real deal. The only downsize was the longevity as it was gone in an hour on my skin. Oddly enough, it lasted for more than a day on my clothes. In the end, I just bite my tongue and bought one retail. At least I got a fake for free.
I also got scammed! Last month I got a Creed Floralie from Fragrancenet.com and it was fake! I paid $245 for it. The scent was completely different from the original as I have a sample that I got from Neiman. The packaging was also questionable. I returned it right away but it just left a sour taste in my mouth. I purchase so many perfumes from this website. Very disappointing!
I recently organized my collection in a shelf and I started noticing some difference in the bottle+packaging of my INITIO and Parfums de Marley Fragrances. After a lot of inspection on both the bottles and packaging and comparing ones I bought from the company website to the ones I bought from an online retailer, I realized I was sold fakes! It was the same online retailer and I even bought them on full price. Now I'm feeling so angry because 5 INITIO perfumes and 1 Parfums de Marley in my collection are counterfeits. And I never noticed them before because they smell very similar to the originals.

I am Russian my self and every time when I am buying perfume from Russia 3 times less in price I am expecting to get fake perfume but also I know that they will return my $ as soon as I email them in a Russian!!!! Haha

My suggestion is: Never buy from Russia! There is whole big manufactures working and creating replicas for most popular perfumes and they even have they own websites and of course ebay also very good platform for them.....So I wouldn’t recommended!

As you know, Montale aluminum bottles practically feel empty when they're brand new. This bottle was FULL and Heavy, that was the first sign. Next to spayed it and it smelled like NOTHING! I compared the smell to my decant....smelled nothing like it, not even a F'N whiff of the real deal. I also had a brand new Montale bottle which I compared the weight of the bottle...the real Montale was way lighter in weight and I hadn't sprayed any of it yet
I immediately repackage it and sent it back. I just got my refund yesterday.

I avoid buying anything from Russia except House samples. In the US, buy from Selfridges. You pay $50 for a year of free shipping to the US. This line is about $60 a bottle because of the current exchange rate.

Hi Sebastian, I bought a fake Rania J. fragrance on ebay from Russia. I didn't even believe copying Houses like Rania J. would make sense, but apparently everything gets copied these days. A lot of fake L' Artisan Parfumeur and Tom Ford come from there too.

What is „fascinating“ is that even legitimate sellers have problems detecting fakes from real bottles sometimes. They are so good now that I am really shocked. Sometimes, they even take the real bottles from the trash and refill them with Alcohol and a bit of scent.
Edit: Regarding „standard fragrances“ are not really faked. The most fakes I have heard of are Davidoff Cool Water which is one of the cheapest fragrances I can think about.

I have just got the fake Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. It was supposed to be a tester, thus the price was attractive. The seller "specializes" in selling testers and had only positive reviews. The smell is not too far from the original (I have a small decant), but still there is a difference. I analyzed the packaging and the bottle - I don't have any other Frederic Mall's, therefore it was difficult to compare only to the pictures online, but I am pretty sure I got a fake bottle. Tough luck.

I was about to buy one from this line from an ebay seller in Texas, but at the end I refused because the seller was not able to guarantee its authenticity and he/she got upset when I asked this question. I didn't know that this line was being replicated.
Also, I noticed that this same seller had sold fake MFK fragrances based on the feedback I saw.
For me I buy my fragrance only from duty-free its the save buying.

Hi Sebastian, i think half a year ago I already told you i bought 2 times a fake on ebay. I ordered them in the same week in Russia, one Terrible teddy and one baccarat Rouge. I paid with pay pal but as soon i wanted to calim something the accounts had disappeared. Meanwhile i only order only at fragrancex, notino, Jovoy. I can pnlly say never order in Russia , It's a corrupt country with a lot of corrupt sellers and I also don't buy perfumes orver ebay anymore. Better pay more at normal proofed internet stores

I ordered TF tobacco oud and Amouage Overture from Saks online and both arrived on 18June2023. The TF was fake and the Amouage overture came without a cellophane around the pack and was old and dirty looking. You can imagine my shock. A whole Saks online selling fakes. Never buying online again. I went to the physical store and returned both.

Now Russia, as well as China, are on my "DO NOT BUY FROM" list. Hopefully AE will get you a full refund but what a hassle.

Took a gamble on a bottle of amouage interulde for a ridiculous price, it actually smelled fine so I confirmed the purchase. It ended up fading away after an hour or 2. Only afterwards noticed all the other things that were off about the packaging and all. Too late to do anything about it unfortunately.

Not necessarily. Harrods in London (longtime luxury department store targeting the wealthy-they even have a dress code for shoppers) ships internationally, so I decided to buy actual, true Annick Goutal from there. 😂😇
I got scammed 2 times....The first was vintage Dior Addict (original one)....Paypal refunded me. The 2nd one was Chanel Gabrielle......with particles floating in the juice........cheaply made bottle/label/box.
When u have a chance get ur hands on a bottle of al Haramain amber oud rouge to review it, i just got it and its definitely 90 percent close to baccarat rougue 540 extrait de parfum, would love to hear your input about it. Keep it rocking sebastian

Getting burned sucks... one time I spent over $150 on fragrances at a flee market the boxes and bottles almost look genuine and smell was close... but just like you explained I notice little discrepancies and finally it was to late but they were all fake bottles.. PURCHASE WITH CAUTIION🤔🤗🤗

I bought 2 fake fragrances from an online store called parfumly, I live in England , the store is based in “Oslo” but the perfumes came from Belarus and the perfumes cost 300Gbp , they were shipped out in envelopes and when I saw it I straight knew it was FAKE , I returned it and 3 months later i still haven’t gotten a refund, so I’ve contacted my credit card company

I was shocked at how quickly this line got faked 😟 I noticed fakes popping up within the year of the collection coming out. Also, beware, their are now fakes of the bvlgari Le Gemme line even 🤨

I’m sorry Sebastian that sucks but I swear people are doing it more and more buying cheap fakes and selling them all over these selling sites. I see sometimes new YT’ers have bought and think they’ve gotten original old fragrances for cheap but they’re not real or they’ve described some fragrances as weak and not lasting and I’m like no way that fragrance is a beast! It even happens with samples it seems. I know scents are perceived differently and a lot of times you need at least 5ml spray minimum (I think) to get a feel of a scent but when somebody gets a deal on a bunch of samples and they describe them all as weak and smells like X designer and you know it doesn’t smell like that at all not even a little bit it makes you wonder esp when they bought off one of the many selling sites that let people sell their own belongings. If someone is on those sites selling stuff and they are selling an original old wanted fragrance for cheap and any other bottle available is 300$ there’s a problem the person selling isn’t just naive. I’m so skeptical I swear I’ve not even ordered on eBay before although I’ve been debating from one USA seller whose very popular with lots of 5 star reviews but idk...
I understand the scamming issue, for sure. Because of that I have strict rules on eBay that I follow whenever I try to obtain fragrances -- and I've been an eBayer for about 20 years (and have received about 3 fake fragrances: 2 Dior Sauvages and 1 PR Invictus). Luckily, I haven't had too many issues with FragranceNet or FrgagranceX, but I did have a Ferrari fragrance go bad on me from FragranceNet a looooong time ago (Ferrari Red Power). But yeah, I only buy from fragrance warehouses or discounter stores if I am looking for fragrances. If they are individuals (or even businesses, honestly), they have to have no less than 98% positive of a feedback rating with an extensive record of selling items and fragrances (and only fragrances, mostly) at about 3000+ ratings, and they have to have had an eBay business for AT LEAST 4-5 years. The fragrances also must have detailed descriptions in the description box of the item and, if possible, multiple pictures of the item and presentation. I don't play when it comes to purchasing of relatively expensive items (or even cheapies) and the more expensive the item, the less chances I take with individual sellers or unknown places. I don't care if I only get a $40 or $50 discount off of the full retail pricing as long as I get something from a wholesaler or established discount store. Less mistakes that way. Any stores I don't know about or never heard of I Google search the company and say "legit?" next to it and see what the public says. That normally rules out the anonymity of stores that are sketchy.

I bought a Byredo from Russia - not sure if it’s fake or not - smells the same and packaging perfect - just thought the scent would last longer than it does

It would be harder to realize you have a fake if you didn't have a known good legit version to compare it to. And, it would be even harder if you had never smelled it before.
I agree big time yes. God knows how many people didn't realize it was a fake when it was!
These people went really far to fake this product, I mean having to get the exact bottles and box printing must have cost quite a bit in itself. I have ordered designer products (Chanel) from Russia before with no problems but I am still super careful about them. I wouldnt buy fragrance or even sample fragrances because who knows what they fill the bottles with.
If you buy from discount Russia please spray on paper and sniff at a distance first. I have had two suspect vintage purchases but they were tiny. Nevertheless I have no idea what was in the bottle.
I don't buy neither from russia, nor India........ plus it takes FOREVER to reach to the USA. Thanks for the comparison. I was scammed with a fake too, i told them that the fragrance was fake, and i was refunded almost immediately.

Dionne Grinage Yes you would, the fragrance would be a lot weaker & would not last longer than a hour. Go to a high street store & smell the real bottle. The fakes are becoming very good in their packaging but the scent will aways be a lot weaker.
I have a Mugler Aura that I don't know if it's real or not. I think it is real, it's sure as hell strong and long lasting like real Aura. The seller took the Mugler circle code out of the inside of the box though so not exactly sure.
Man , it just happened to me this week with 2 fragrances (Bought from Italy) : Oud Ispahan from CD MP, and Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood. I'm in the middle of trying to resolve the issue. As you said, the whole experience is different!

That's why I only purchase from the manufacturer and still if I don't like it I dispute it with Discovery card.Yes Frangrance.net got me on a Mancera cologne and from that day I stopped buying from these third party sites.
