One minute in and I'm like, wah her singlish damn power! I've never heard a Japanese speak naturally like a local before. haha. She showed that Singlish is not only about the lahs, lors etc. Every sentence structure she utters and the tone is Singlish personified,
What a surprise to see you here Yumi!! You haven't changed even though it's nearly 20 years since I last saw you! Glad to see you're still enjoying Singapore, so many of the friends I had there then have left over the years..
I have never ever praised an ad, this is the first ad that I think is amazing. I don't think it'll take over the jobs of translators, as it can't add in cultural nuances and social cues, but can assist in many ways.
It's so lovely watching this episode all thanks to Yumi! As a Singaporean living in Japan for 8 years (6 years in Tokyo), I wish I could get to meet her. It'll be so interesting to talk about our experiences. Thank you for featuring her!❤
If my daughter see this video, she definitely wants to learn Russian. She loves Russian songs so much until she can sing 1 whole day. It's kind of interesting too with 2 languages communication. Very good ☺️
Dear Max …I hav just watched a few of your videos. Your varied perspectives and interview styles is amazing ! You show much interest in the person ur interviewing and this makes them respond well and give interesting insights ! Keep up the good work 💪🌺
14:00 the "paiseh piece' (paiseh = embarrassed). When sharing food, nobody wants to look like they are too hungry and ate the last piece :) I think we were brought up by our parents to appear shy/humble/kind, to be considerate and let others have it, otherwise its embarrassing.
What a lovely lady, and great conversation (in passing, I googled Syphilis and shaking hands and that would be a hard no on all the websites I consulted - is this very new?). Last but not least, I will try out the little Timekettle for my next trip to Japan! Thanks!
It's good to be polite first and it's nice to say how we feel without shouting and raging at everything. This is one thing everyone has to learn from the Japanese. That translation device is amazing!!
LKY was a good friend with Seiko founder, and he always very frank and blunt to three Japanese Big Newspapers. And many Japanese Corporate leaders have had Candid Conversation with him.
@@Scottirulez From certain events that happened during WWII, it was speculated by certain individuals that he was a collaborator. It certainly looked that way from the description I've read. You may be able to Google for more info. Edit: "Hodobu" was a Japanese propaganda machine in Singapore during WWII. I quote from a government-friendly online publication: "During the Occupation, Lee Kuan Yew joined the Hodobu in 1943 as an English-language editor. He was tasked to run through the cables of Allied news agencies."
@@ScottirulezNo he didn't. Just because one held a job as a civil servant during the Occupation doesn't mean one was a collaborator. The definition of a "collaborator" was one that provided intelligence to aid the Japanese war effort, not one that carried out daily tasks based on their skill sets.
Hi Max, for the Timekettle demo, may be nice to provide English equivalent translation in addition to Russian and Japanese to help us to follow along. Great interview 👍 Keep up the good work !
paiseh piece i think in malay culture it exist. for us its etiquette to not look too glutton and clean up the plate haha. but nowadays we either yield or just divide it if its too tasty and everyone still want a piece
The embarrassment to take the last piece was around since the senior times. But things are changing, if you go for a meal with a table of stranger uncles and aunties, the food would be wiped out very fast
Hi Max Your interview with Yumi was most interesting. Both of you were amazing. Keep it up with your interesting videos. 👍How much is the Timekettle and how can I get the discount as said at the end of your video.
Haha, she sounds very Singaporean, in fact more like a Singaporean who knows how to speak Japanese, rather than a Japanese who knows how to speak Singlish.
What is the name and make of that cool translating device, where to order? (by the way I also found your interviewee, Ms Yumi very fluent in singlish an amazing feat becoz most japanese people I came across don't speak that fluently..
I think it's absurd to expect PRs to give up their citizenship just to take up SG citizneship. For me, I would never give up my SG citizenship even if I work and live in another country as it forms part of my identity. PRs feel the same too.
Well, let say if you don't dress well or not wealthy let's see how they treat you. I have been to Singaporean and my GF was Chinese and we didn't get a geniune help when we asked for suggestions or direction. When I was in Thailand two groups of Singaporean mistreated a group of Malaysian. I think what one or a few persons say doesn't mean much. You have to go there to truly experience it yourself.
It doesn’t really matter how you dress that much, sometimes we are either not really friendly / don’t really want to talk to strangers / may not know the info to suggest / or other reasons. It’s unfortunate you didn’t get the help you need depending on what you feel “genuine” is. At least for myself, I’ve helped a few people before about directions from the best of my knowledge.
Singapore's continued refusal to recognize Duals in today's talent race will place it at a disadvantage. There will be many transient naturalized citizens, eg. techies using SG to enter US under SG's quota or H1B1. Also SG's lack of a hinterland makes it unattractive for retirement except for uber wealthy. Why would a JP national give up her Japan's many quaint provinces & small towns?
The sun'll come out tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow....................(.tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya tomorrow.).you are always a day away..............
Ya , fun conversation but let me do some correction. Okinawa does not belong to Japan , it was annexed by Japan. How to respect a country's culture & people when no sincere apology was given for her atrocities against countries in Asia , esp the Nanjing Massacre & Unit 731 where Chinese were used for some horrible experimentation. Till today , the Japanese have refused a sincere apology even trying to whitewashed her dark history. Some say Japanese are nice & kind but hey , you have not met real nasty ones. Don't get me wrong , there are many Japanese that are nice people. In my encounters with Japanese , they usually do not show you their displeasure , but they still will bow & smile. Sorry for being blunt & to the point. Btw , of course there are nice Japanese too & i love their sushi.
If I remember correctly, Mao Zedong already signed away all rights in exchange for monetary assistance from Japan! So, all other Asian can talk about Japanese atrocities, except prc!
