Kings and Generals historical animated documentary series on the history of the Early Modern Era and the English civil war continues. In our previous video, we covered how the English Civil War finally broke out after decades of buildup, ultimately leading to the conflict’s first major pitched battle at Edgehill, in October 1642 ( • Battle of Edgehill 164... ). Many spectators and participants alike hoped this clash would end the conflict, but they were tragically mistaken, for the flawed generalship and heavy losses among King Charles I’s royalist army would lead to a deadlock that trapped the British Isles in bitter civil war for almost another two decades. Charles’ march on London and the campaign of 1643, culminated at the First Battle of Newbury ( • Battle of Newbury 1643... ). In the aftermath, the war continued both in England and Scotland, leading go the climactic battle of Marston Moor in 1644 ( • Rise of Cromwell - Mar... ). This new episode will talk about the rise of the New Model Army and the decisive battle of Naseby which was fought in 1645. In this series we will cover the main battles of the civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, including Edgehill, Newsbury, Marston Moor, Naseby, Preston, Drogheda, Dunbar and others.

Please do some more research before you accept sponsorship. Those 1-meter plots are known as souvenir plots and you have no legal ownership of the land and the company regularly "sells" the same plot to multiple people in addition to this under the Land Registry (Scotland) Act 2012 the sale and registration of those plots are illegal in addition to this since 1538 all titles in Scotland have been regulated by what is known as the Court of Lord Lyon and they do not recognize these titles. If this wasn't bad enough there is absolutely no evidence of any conservation work being carried out by the groups involved. The Illegal use and creation of fraudulent titles in Scotland and the actions of multiple companies (all from outside Scotland) taking advantage of innocent people are of great concern and cause a lot of offence

Another little fact: the soldiers of the New Model Army (largely the infantry) were the first true redcoats. Contrary to the myth that red was chosen so soldiers wouldn't see blood, it was chosen for a much simpler reason: it was the cheapest dye available.

There's a reason the British Army isn't called "The Royal Army", unlike the other branches of Britain's military such as The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF). That's because the modern British Army is descended from Parliamentarian's New Model Army which at the time of its creation did not acknowledge the authority of the king.

    • @fogwar
      @fogwar ปีที่แล้ว +63

Moreover, the Bill of Rights in 1689, which carried over some of the principles of the civil wars, meant that only Parliament could sanction the continued existence of the army. Hence an Armed Forces Act needing to be passed every 5 years, otherwise a standing army would be illegal in Britain.

The really sad thing is after victory Cromwell took power ,constantly argued and disagreed with parliament, who hated his extremist views .
He refused to share power , so he ruled like a king, he named his son to inherit his throne, he died believing he had created a new dynasty of rulers, that would continue with his son his sons son and so on .
He had nothing whatsoever to do with democracy in this country or any others.
It eventually happened in spite of him , not because of him
      As many wrongly believe.

Wait, Black Friday was originally a memorial for a sacking and has since been corrupted as a shopping holiday the day after Thanksgiving? 😶😐😱

Black Friday in the US comes from the business term of “being in the black” which means being in profit. Almost all outlets see large profitable sales on that day - hence the term Black Friday. Although this current version of it has only been around since the 80’s. Black Friday was once used to describe the day after thanksgiving when a lot of workers would call in sick to make their time off longer, meaning factories were understaffed.

Hey! I love your videos and have been a huge fan for a really long time. Im a 17 year old from Australia with a huge passion for the type of content you make, and I am looking to make my own channel with videos about similar topics to yours. I was just wondering if you could help me out and give me a few tips on what you have noticed works and what doesn’t in this sort of content. Any help would be much appreciated. Maybe more to do with the video making side of things. And keep making your great videos, I would love to see what levels you could reach in the future!

The Illegal use and creation of fraudulent titles in Scotland and the actions of multiple companies (all from outside Scotland) taking advantage of innocent people are of great concern and cause a lot of offense in Scotland.

The parliamentary army was never called
The new model army , the term first appeared in the 18th century by historian Carlyle.
Originates from the 're modeling of the parliamentary army ,
Which was down to Fairfax and not Cromwell, as many believe.
    Fairfax was commander in chief,
Cromwell was apponted commander of the newly re formed cavalry by Thomas Fairfax .
He separated the dragoons from the cavalry and made them a separate unit, without resorting to Google i can't remember the name of the guy off the top of my head who was given command of the dragoons, pike comes to mind but im pretty sure its not that.
Fairfax reforms included trimming down commanders, he claimed he had too many, older guys he paid off , others he persuaded to take lower ranks ,
Fairfax led the army to victory at Naseby, even though many give credit to Cromwell,
Just like most people wrongly believe Cromwell modernised the parliamentary army.
It wasn't Cromwell, or Essex or Manchester,
    It was Fairfax,.
    Cromwell was a wa####
Fairfax was ahead of his time, anyone interested in the English civil wars should read about Fairfax.
    Essex and Manchester, phut,,
Cromwell, an extremist and a hypocrite.
Fairfax appointed Cromwell leader of his cavalry because he was a good soldier,
But as a man Fairfax hated his extremist views .
He fought for a parliament, he was a moderate, Presbyterian,
He could've taken power , but he wasn't a power mad extremist hypocrite.
And that's why he retired sad ,disillusioned , sad for the soldiers who fought for something different, for a parliament who would consider the lower classes.
and ended up replacing one king for another, a tyrant much worse than the one Cromwell killed.
