If you've ever wanted to know what an Armoured Battle Group looks and sounds like, then turn up your speakers, sit back, relax and enjoy! (Challenger 2 MBT's on exercise 2014)
Such a shame most people will never fully experience this. The sound alone is nothing. The bone shaking vibrations from them along with the feel of the earth shaking...... now that's power! Nice video
We used to do exercises on Salisbury where Chally 2s would attack our positions at dawn. After digging in all night, to first hear, and then see them charging at full chat is something I'll never forget. (Ex Royal Marines)
You should hear and feel the main gun firing. That REALLY rattles your fillings! If you ever get the chance, go to Lulworth ranges in Dorset and have a listen.
The totally indestructible Rolls Royce CV12, I was at Chobham the day the first Chieftain and the first Challenger moved. There are weeds growing up in the car park now. All gone.
I remember when the first Chieftains arrived in Detmold and went off to Hohne for summer training. Over half those belonging to The Royals broke down within days of getting there. Kept the REME busy for months. What a sound though. A Chieftain at 'full chat'! And not forgetting the smoke!!
I was the first person to pass there tracked licence.... in chally 2. After a challenger 1 went through the main gate on lower bovvy... 1998... before anybody asks. Challenger 1 for 2 for me driving defo
Worked at Vickers Newcastle where Challi 2 , Cheiftain ,turrets for the Warrior were built along with varients(recovery vehicles , bridge layers as well as Vickers Mark 3 and other tracked armour for foreign countries.Really enjoyed my 26 years with Vickers.
It was a great Company and the Newcastle site produced the best products. I visited (in service) regularly and was always impressed by all that worked there. Good old Armstrong works.
Ha! Yeah, it actually made me a wee bit nervous at the time!!!! But in times since when I was doing shoots, if the CO saw me, or anyone with a camera I suppose, he'd do this with the main gun which made for some great shots!
The best sounding tank ever, totally unique, a great tank in its day unfortunately fitted with a great sounding underpowered and unreliable engine. Once you have heard a regiment breaking cover at first light you will never forget. Enjoy th-cam.com/video/nQ38tYaYPAk/w-d-xo.html
It's just a bored gunner who has to sit inside for the duration of the move and wants to have a look around. It's the most frustrating place to be until you are at the firing ranges :)
I've made another video this year of Challengers and Warriors with raw engine sounds so do a search on TH-cam for 'Challenger II Main Battle Tanks and Warrior AV's 2015' Enjoy!
The main gun tracking the cameraman was rather disconcerting! Chally 2 is one of those tanks that just look "right". I mean it's the ultimate recruitment tool... just show them the tank!

Anyone with experience here? What exactly does it take to become a crewmember of a Challenger 2? Of course you can join the British army as a tank crewman, but do you have to specify that you want to be in a Chally, or do you have to work your way up from smaller vehicles? Not only that, but do you have to be an Officer? or can you join straight in without coming from a specific college or university?
+Tai1g If you go onto the British Army website, go to 'Role Finder' and find 'Tank Crewman' (on page 11) and that has all the information you require. Good luck!
+Ian Woodbridge, they haven't been mothballed- the Army can't afford a new tank so they're extending the lifespan of the Challenger II. The big problem is that the Russian T14 has made just about every other tank in the World obsolete so for the time being we're left with what we have.....
+Razorback Max Ah, on paper the T14 is great, but remember Russia still lags behind in composite armour technology (they had little fund to research for quite some time) and the build quality even on the one they displayed was quite rough. In actual battle I doubt it would do well.
No, this sounds more like a fully loaded double decker Setra with a V8 engine; also, that whine is too low for turbo, sounds more like a really loud transmission
Please, can we use footage from your TH-cam channel for our videos about military cars, trucks a other machines? We tag your channel as a source ,... thank you. :)
Unlike the "le turd" it's actually been in real combat, it's never been knocked out in combat (apart from a blue on blue, from another Chally) even after coming under sustained RPG and AT missile attack, for hours on end, the only thing damaged was it's sights. Oh and it just so happens to have the longest tank kill in history, at over 2miles away under its belt. I believe that trumps you sir ;-)
Such a shame most people will never fully experience this.

My brother worked on these for years but still has nightmares of them accidentally sliming him against a wall, they were so fast and powerful.

Love the sound, which is why I always always use the Chinese mbt on bf4, exact sound
Word. They also used this engine tone for the T-90 in BC 2 and BF3-4, but without that transmission sound.
Think it was called the Type 99 or 96.
