Voluntaryism 101 - Lesson #1: "Law Enforcers"

  • I thought it might be good to make a few short videos quickly describing the foundation of voluntaryism, for all those people who are new to the ideas, and who might feel lost and confused the first time they find themselves in a discussion about them.
This first lesson is about "law enforcement."

The bottom line is this: you don't need any special title or badge to do something morally good. But you damn well need one to get away with something evil and unjust.

@Jay Gee morally good, is naturally engrained into the “morally good” people, which is the majority. There is no need for a “foundation” or “law” that dictates what is, or what isn’t morally good. The foundation is already a given. It’s that simple. If anyone disagrees with that, or believes it to be a bit more complicated than that. Then they should probably ponder and assess their own morality. Because they might just find themselves to be in the immoral category, and didn’t realize it.

I'm a little disappointed to hear that because I like your channel. Voluntaryism/American libertarians and AnCaps especially, are more often than not a stepping stone towards pretty crazy ideas. I mean like, abolish age of consent laws...the government shouldn't force parents to care for kids they didn't want, ie let them starve, not clothe or shelter them....or that parents should be allowed to sell an unwanted child. I'm not even kidding. Also a lot of fascists, neo-nazis identify as Ancap or libertarian.

& the last part he's talking about having to do something about thieves & rapists, etc.. I almost got caught up in that American libertarian/voluntaryist/Ancap bullshit when I started getting more serious about politics, law & understanding my rights...& I am soooo glad I didn't get too far into it. I'd received some extremely bad advice on my rights & the laws from them. I got lucky & discovered the left. I don't mean liberalism or the democrats, which are actually center right - but the real left. I haven't looked back since. It's not all communists, socialists or whatever like the right & center right wants you to believe. Most of the right/center right intentionally misuses those words constantly anyway. Voluntaryism/American libertarians/Ancaps are very much right wing, just like your conservatives, & all the hate groups....I hope y'all can realize all this one day.

Being is parent is more akin to a ward relationship than a property relationship. If 99% of parents could break their bad parenting habits in just this one way, we'd see a wildly different world.
Your child is not your property, but he or she is your responsibility until they prove to be able to self sustain. Many things can prevent this, some unavoidable like disability or them becoming statists. If the child wasn't taught morality they will contribute to downfall of humanity plain and simple.
Every Child Matters. And no I'm not parroting the government granted indigenous slogan, I actually mean it.

Natural Law - our inherent rights given by the Creator - are evident and if written by mankind, redundant. The main point of Natural Law is ’No person can give away authority to any other person because every single person is completely responsible for their own direct actions’. It doesn’t matter if 5 million people sign a piece of paper as fancy and official as they want no one has the authority to endow authority to another. It’s like saying, “I’m giving away my karma.” Somebody who hires somebody to commit murder is still guilty of murder. So if we fool ourselves into believing any human can be responsible for our personal freedoms, actions, decisions, then we have given away all our power while still fully responsible for all outcome. And of course, a Council is practical for small disputes and guidance with the wisdom of past lessons learned.
All this to say if this was taught in schools and homes by all humankind, the freedom and the responsibility given to each individual would be an incredible step forward in enriching all lives, human and otherwise. We could spend our energy on solving the problems of the helpless and troublemakers and such without losing our freedoms, or paying income tax, etc., yet pursuing happiness, personal goals and more.
I state this solely for the purpose of educating the populace of how the world actually works and anything outside this will always exact a price.

Sure, you could argue that self ownership and property rights come from some sort of faith but most people regularly abide by the NAP. The majority of people only go against it regarding state aggression which they tend to view differently on account of their belief in authority.

A voluntaryist society depends on everyone agreeing on their basic morality and proper conduct. It's a popular mischaracterization of anarchy that everyone just does whatever. A culture must agree on principles, or it's not a culture.

@@jebediahkerman8245 Everyone agreeing seems impossible. Majority agreeing? Then the element of some kind of force and violence is inevitable. For example majority could argue it's firstly is a moral thing to pay taxes (it's not relevant why they would argue so). They could say it's immoral not to pay taxes. It's like robbing "us"/"others" therefore "we" have to use and it's completely moral to use force to defend ourselves from these "thieves" who may or may not use "these things" for free our taxes paid for.

A major shortcoming in Codified Commercial Law that the IRS likes to capitalize on is that an unrefuted claim is presumed to be true. That is why the citizen MUST always and immediately respond to any and all erroneous claims made by the IRS. According to Commercial Law, the
rebuttal must be made in 72 hours from the time of presentment. The rebuttal for an erroneous tax bill can be as simple as, “I don’t owe this and this is not a true bill of commerce.” One of the necessities of Commercial Law is that all affidavits must be signed and attested to be “true, correct, and complete.”
The IRS cannot and does not attest its “presentments” to
individuals. When properly utilized, the ultimate advantage in Commercial Law goes to the Sovereign who has the final, unrebuttable truth on his or her side as an affidavit.

Hello Larken, I am Iraqi and enjoy your videos. Particularly your takes on the police and military which I can relate to especially well because I have been target of both unjustly (From US mostly having dealt with attacks and strikes against my relatives and neighbours and my country now in chaos with militias from Iran running rampant on the streets). However, I am curious on your opinions on how morality is dealt with in different cultures in relation to you talking about for example killing, for example in Arab culture if someone sleeps with the daughter of a man from another tribe. The father can morally by culture kill the offender. So how would voluntaryism deal with this? Are we going by western morality? If so isn't this just another force of unjust law being applied to another people who do not feel the same way? I am curious on how you would answer this. ( I wanna clarify I dont say either is right or wrong I am just wondering what you think)

He is ultimately advocating for a very simple and specific definition of morality. That being:
Right - an action which does NOT harm other sentient beings
Wrong - an action which DOES harm other sentient beings
The exceptional use of force that he mentions in the last part of the video is exclusive to self defense.

Not to be "that guy" but your premise is somewhat incorrect in that "law enforcers" (as you have described them) do not enforce "laws" but for the most part codes and policy. Paid militants enforcing a policy for a private for profit corporation should be considered mercenaries as they are there for pay and are in no way contributing to righteousness. There is a very clear line between a "lawman" and a mercenary.
