I use the CTX3030 in the UK. Took me a while to get used to it and I really didn't like it to start with. I persevered with it and got used to what it was telling me. Now, I know if I walk over something I know I'm going to find it....and at considerable depth too. Keep going with it Beau, when you are comfortable with it you will love it.

I too am from the UK, sometimes I watch your video's to chill out to before I go to bed. I know one thing if I was a Garrett Rep I'd be giving you a call or sending someone out to train you in the use of their machines. It would be a first class bit of customer service on their part considering all the enthusiasts that watch your videos. Good luck with it all my man.

Always love the videos. I've been using the CTX for awhile. Here are a couple of my preferences for what it's worth: Get the big seals for the battery compartment and the USB port. The stock ones can leak. You have newer version of the CTX, so they may have changed the seals since I bought mine. The originals were thin red seals. Mine leaked on a beach hunt and they had to replace the back compartment, battery and charger. Other people have complained about this as well. In the menu set deep to off and fast to on. With deep on the brain gets confused in large amounts of iron. The reset speed between targets is a little slow on the CTX. Fast will help. For relic hunting I like a wide open screen and from your style of hunting I think you would prefer that as well.. The dark grey is what is discriminated out. I'm pretty sure that's why some of your signals were faint or just blips. I have a program that opens the machine up, if you read this and want it I can email it to you. Good luck with it.

You're gonna love the CTX once you get it mastered....I'm 58 and been detecting since 1970...and it took me a while to figure it out, but I love it now...lol. The book by Andy Sabisch is a must, as the factory manual has several mistakes in it. Also the Coiltek 5 x 10 coil works awesome on it. I love the AT-Pro also, but when you get this beast tamed, you will want to go back to every where you have ever been. Thanks for all you videos...I never miss a single one. Take care, Chigg

  • @foiledagainjim9129

The CTX 30 30 is great machine if you take the time to learn it. First I would not be using the big coil. Get the 6" coil for the rivers; much easier to swing and pinpoint.
Two, use a tight discrimination pattern to eliminate iron and things you don't want to find. Three, program your sounds so that you know what you have under the coil. This is a super function on the CTX. Don't ignore it, do it!! It's not that complicated. I use combined and low sounds to find the goodies (I use low sounds because I don't hear high sounds well). Don't get greedy with the Gain in the water.
You need to move your arm cuff back.
Probably the biggest problem with the CTX is the battery compartment and USB port will leak. Be extremely diligent about cleaning the gasket and channel after every use in the water. I now use silicone grease around the channel.
Get "The CTX 30 30 Handbook" by Andy Sabisch...expensive but worth it.

Also go into the audio response section and widen the tones that are available. Your silvers will squeal way higher than solid copper pennies. You can audibly tell the difference between most highly conductive targets. Even lows. You can tell the diff between a nickel and a pop tab or chunk of can.

Many Garrett guys have a hard time making the transition to more "technical" machines. You have to be somewhat serious about learning a bit more to go to the top tier of machines and to Minelab machines generally. My very first machine was an X-Terra 70. I knew nothing and I wasn't getting the most out of it. Even so I did manage to find a WW1 military dog tag with it. I went to simpler machines including the Ace and AT Pro and learned the basics, but I wasn't happy with good enough. I didn't want to stay stuck there as a treasure hunter. I got serious about learning and worked my way up through machines.
I've been very impressed with machines like the F75 LTD, the revised MX Sport, and the V3i even with its shortcomings. I had a Deus in my arsenal until the Equinox came along. The Equinox has replaced nearly all my machines and has piqued my interest in Minelab machines again. My go-to machines are now just the V3i and Equinox. I've experimented with the FBS machines of others, but have never taken the plunge on a CTX-3030. But I know me, I'm not going to rest until I do. The target trace feature is very intriguing. I view imaging as an evolution of metal detecting

Hello Beau. Enjoyed your swim with the fishes. Love seeing those big ole fish. I'm reminded of the urban legends where scuba divers dive around the dams of reservoirs and return to the surface, swearing to never return because of the giant catfish they witnessed.
Lol, you are still thinking about that gold coin Chill Bill found on the bank of the Thames? I'm still thinking about the 170 silver coins you found 5 years ago. Do you still revisit that place to see if any additional coins have surfaced?
