All OSHA compliant guards were in place and no workers were harmed in the making of this video. We do however have one employee missing and we chalked up his absence to being on vacation.

Once I toured a rolling mill and asked the question "how do they keep the steel red hot while it goes through all those rollers?" I was surprised to find out that due to friction and compression the bar actually comes out of the roller hotter than it goes in. In fact they have to work hard to keep it from becoming TOO hot.

It depends on the temperature of the bars/sheets being rolled. If you go with in with a temperature of 1200ºC it will end the rolling being colder than before no matter what. And this applies even for the temperature after which the metal starts radiating (more or less 650ºC). That affirmation is true only for cold rolling where the metal enters at a temperature of 20 to 60ºC and exits at for example 100ºC.
The real reason because the bars remain radiating is just a matter of the shape and how much time it takes for the material to cool down. You could just take an ingot of 10tons, heat it upt to 1400ºC and leave it all night cooling and it will be probably still red the next morning.

I worked 8 years here in The Netherlands for a maintanance firm and we did a lot of work for the Tata steel plant in Ijmuiden(before Corus). Especially the rolling mill( WarmBand 2) where the thick slabs are rolled out to rolls of 40 ton car metal etc. looks the same as on this movie. Only darker and dirtier and the plant in Holland is 50x bigger. Much like this: th-cam.com/video/13dUL9OQFvw/w-d-xo.html This is all small thin stuff but the process is very similar. Only no people along the tracks because the heat would set your face on fire...If the rollers on the track (3 tons each) had to be replaced with a turn around overhaul you were standing knee deep in grease and dirt and while trying to cut the bearing cap nuts in that same grease pile setting it all ablaze. All that spilled grease comes from leaking grease lines to the roller bearings on the track. And there's hundreds of them... Grease, water, raw steel and intense heat always create these kind of conditions in every steel mill.

I worked at the Fernauld rolling mill safe shut down. It made depleted uranium rods. It's interesting how similar 🤔 the rolling mills are. All except for starting out with pucks instead of square stock and molten salt furnaces. That kept the uranium from catching on fire 🔥. It's a pretty similar process.

When we recycle metal and steel we think we are doing a good deed but what really happens is that it gets ground up and flipped into a ship headed for china for a lot less than we should be getting since it costs a lot to get it smelters down.aluminum is called solid electricity within the industry because it take more electricity to make it than you would pay for the finished aluminum bar.

The exposed drive chains grabbed my attention right away. Slips and falls do happen when workers run to avoid a cobble. A worker falling into those chains is going to lose an arm. Swing up open mesh covers chain covers allow for easy diagnosis and instant access to those chains when needed. Cheap, and easy to install but can easily pay for themselves in injury free days.

I have a Chinese lathe and milling machine. They do what they are designed to do and are cheaper than American made by a long way. You can laugh at these guys but they are making steel and selling it around the world. So watch out.

Knew it had to be China, as there was no safety equipment seen anywhere in the video. They are working with heavy steel with soft shoes, no glasses, some hats.

This place is a safety nightmare! The lack of PPE and machine guarding alone is astonishing. OSHA would shut this place down.
