I'm just blown away! I WILL be buying this. I was looking for something like this for months, and months, Thank, you for making something SO amazing, SO affordable! IMO- There's NOTHING to 'Upgrade to' after this.

I literally inquired about a pair of Carnaby's with my local supplier yesterday to add to my R8. Then this announcement arrived in my email this morning. A true act of serendipity :) :) :)
Carnaby 500 still a great option for a 500 series setup. Same exact harmonic EQ circuit. And digital recall possible with Optosync (we are planning on doing more with Optosync)... All Carnaby 500s have the ability!
@@cranborneaudio Very cool. Yes, I am still seriously considering the 500 series units. My R8 has the I/O, power supply, summing mixer and headphone pre's - and a handle :) So I can add the Carnaby's and still record anywhere, and am not restricted to boundaries of a rack. In the shorter term, it saves a little bit of money also. The 'end game' will be to have 2 of the 500 series within the R8 for tracking (mono, dual mono, stereo) and the HE2 racked in the studio to play with for mastering.
The more I say I’m going back in the box I keep seeing new gear I want.

It would be great to have digital recall in the 500 series, and the Craboure rack with digital recall, similar to the WesAudio Titan. Great job! I saw this at NAMM and can't wait to have one in my studio.

Carnaby 500 is the exact same circuit. Better for 500 series. More affordable. And more features coming ! (All Carnaby 500s have the ability)

But seriously, there are several ways and it depends on your workflow and where you want to use the Carnaby HE2. You can use the direct outputs, inserts, aux outs, or use the additional ADAT and SPDIF channels.

Debating on getting the 500R8, I'm more in the box and currently own an Audient id14 mkii, which I bought for the excellent conversion and price point. Also got the EC1 a while ago, on sale, bought it for the preamp, ended up using the headphone amp even more.
With SSL launching their PureDrive Quad preamp, am deciding to get it due to the versatility of the product (built-in D/A conversion, Combi jacks + front TS, impedance switching, variable high pass, the different drive modes), the competitive price point and because I need the extra inputs.
If I get the 500R8, I get rid of the id14 mkii and 'possibly' the EC1 (replace it with Camden 500). But this is too much cost for me right now, so I leaning towards the PureDrive Quad, connected via ADAT, and in the time frame of 7 months, saving up for the 500R8, which will then allow expandability for future equipment, but also compliment the PureDrive.
Plus, I can repurpose the id14 and EC1 for other tasks once I get the 500R8, but not right now.
Any opinion guys? Feel free to give your input.

Would love to meet the new team members, remembered the lot of you (mostly Sean lol) from your Soundcraft days with the Ghost preamps and mainly the Si and Signature stuff (really loved those brands). But by the time I started using them, everyone had moved on. So congrats so far, wishing you all success.

It’s just a multiband saturator
Wavesfactory Spectre makes this hard to justify. You get to choose your saturation type as well as your q value. I get that you can't cut with it, but you don't usually cut with a color eq anyway. I do all cuts/problem solving with digital in the box eq and all boosts/tone with analog emulation eq or wavesfactory spectre. Works very very well.
