He has a great devotion to St Francis of Assisi, and has mentioned him more than once in his activism, I noticed the San Damiano crucifix in the background of his interviews at home. He works the 12 steps and has had the necessary spiritual awakening that comes in the 12th step. It would be awesome if he returned to the Church. Praying for him.
