It really is easy to build a fence. Just the digging is such a pain unless you are lucky and have soft ground! Thanks for your comment, and let me know how you get on!
Biggest ball ache with fencing (at least if you're doing it alone) is handling the panels. Nice tidy edit at the end there lowering the last panel into place. Try that on a windy day! Great channel!
Definitely, once you have done the first bay, then it's just a case of repeating it. If you need to cut a panel down, then i have this simple step by step video for that th-cam.com/video/DrraZNVbh1U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7yCYUSx2IqpYswje
Good video. My neighbour bullied me into agreeing to share the cost of a fence at the bottom of my garden constructed by his trade. The posts aren’t vertical, he had to shim some panels to stop them falling out, the trade is a complete moron. I put up a fence at the front, several people have said how nice it looks, perfectly vertical posts. It’s not rocket science.I have another to do after the recent storm, but I doubt I can lift 8ft concrete posts so I’ll use wood.
Hi, the weight is the main drawback of the concrete posts and gravel boards, but the durability is worth the effort. Have you seen my video on postsavers for wooden posts? th-cam.com/video/eaIVo5xX7Ag/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SBWn8r5DwjvB-bId
@ Thanks. The fence that has gone was in place 18 years ago when the neighbours moved in and the posts are still sound, but two are wobbly. I will replace the posts as they won’t outlast new panels. I will just set new ones in concrete with a sloping top so rain drains away. They might even outlive me as I am 61. Or I will have moved.
Thanks for subscribing to my channel, I'm sure you find some really useful videos. If you're thinking of doing some fencing, these concrete posts and gravel boards are heavy, but once they are in, they are maintenance-free!
@@FixitwithFowler No worries, Although perhaps one thing 🤔 you didn’t mention how Heavy those concrete post are 😂 they weigh a ton, maybe it’s me getting old 😏 😂😂😂
@gcnonepc2061 Yeah, they are really heavy, but I've not had a concrete post or gravel board fail in 20 years! Built to last but comes at the price of being heavy.
Love your videos they are so helpful! I’m looking to do my own fencing too for the first time! Where do I get the materials you used from? Do you do call out work too?
Hi Lisa, Firstly, thanks so much for your lovely comment 😁. I use a local timber yard for the panels and the concrete products as they are better quality than large diy outlets. Unfortunately i don't do any private work at the minute.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked my garden fence video. If you do intend to install a fence like this, just bear in mind that the concrete posts are really heavy!
I live neat a timber yard that also does fencing. If you can find somewhere like that, you will get the concrete posts, gravel boards, and fence panels cheaper and normally delivered. Also, you normally find the fence panels are made a lot better with thicker wood and will definitely last better than big diy stores panels.
Great video 🙂👍 Have you ever used this type of fence faceted on plan? As the henge we are taking out is curved. I presume their is a little bit of space in the post to be able to angle the panel 🤔
Hi, i am going to install this exact fencing at my mum's house, and that will be going around a curve. There is a bit of room to allow the gravel boards to be an angle from the posts, so i pressume it will be the same for the panels.
@@FixitwithFowler That’s what I was thinking as I helped my Dad install a flat one at his & thought the could be angled slightly if needed 🤞 Thanks for the quick reply and are you going to record the install of you Mum’s fence?
Great video thanks mate! The only question I have is I'm about to do the fencing out my back garden but it's on a grass surface, would I need to do anything differently when laying down the gravel boards? Thanks.
Hi, it is important to support the gravel boards as otherwise, over time, they will sink or move overtime. I would add a spot of concrete under each end of the gravel board to prevent any movement.
I've learnt this from the age of 7 working with my dad at weekends and school holidays im 52 now and can i f...k get a job doing fence erecting full time
Hi, yes, you could if you could hold the posts with something. The gravel boards are there to retain ground and / or to keep the wooden fence panels off the ground to prevent them from rotting.
Top man I've done fencing before and it's my son's profession aswell and you do it just the same way as we do brilliant 👍👍👍
Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you approve of my techniques! The only problem is that the concrete posts, especially corner ones, are really heavy!
I’m the same
Thanks for your comment 😁
You always make these jobs look so easy, I love the way you explain the fencing step by step. Thanks for the great content!!!!!

Yeah, i normally put the panels in as i go, but that was just a cut panel. I don't think anything to do with fencing is easy, especially the digging 😫

How strong is this? Will the concrete post crack or break with strong winds? Are the wood panels easy to replace should they break?
Where would you be able to get the posts and gravel boards, B&Q? Great video very instructive.😄

@djdpuk im not sure yet. It takes so long to film when you are trying to do it on your own.
@@FixitwithFowler I can imagine. Another option could be to do a time motion video from a tripod and then explaining how you did it afterwards? 🤷🏻♂️

Hi great vid . Can i use concrete post and make a fence on a stone /brick wall. If yes do i need gravel boards?
Hi, yes, you could if you could hold the posts with something. The gravel boards are there to retain ground and / or to keep the wooden fence panels off the ground to prevent them from rotting.
So in your opinion can I do without gravel boards as it's on a stone/ brick wall?
@arfanjhangir8465 Yes, but the top of gravel boards are angled so that any water runs off them, preventing the fence panels from rotting!
great vid. Subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing! I hope the video has given you some pointers on fencing.
👍👍👍. Thank you Steve

Hi, could you advice if i can use a 9ft post for 1ft gravel board and 6ft panel for a total height of 7ft. Thank you
Thank you, I rewatched the video and it said exactly what I needed. So a 2 feet depth for the post will be ok for a 9ft post?
Hi, the posts need to be 600mm in the ground and if you make the holes a bit wider then the fence will be solid!
Yeah, that will be fine, i have over 60m of fencing installed like that around the back garden. It has been installed for 10 years and hasn't moved!
Great stuff.
Thanks for your comment! Hopefully, you won't have to build a fence now!!
@@FixitwithFowler haha fingers crossed mate
🤣🤣🤣
Is that type of post sold in America?
Hi, sorry I'm in the UK so im not sure!
Bit of a strange place to put a fence - how do you access the space behind it?
There was an old fence there before but it was rotten. The panels just lift out if you need access.
Can I check the height of your fence because I thought there was a 2 metre limit.
It depends where you live, and the land behind is 45cm higher, which makes my fence only 1.7 meters!!
