  • On my walk, this morning, around Palm Springs, I answer a few questions asked by subscribers and viewers.
    The first question is which Palm Springs neighborhoods are the most GAY/LGBTQ+ retirement-friendly? I'm not an expert, but I share my personal opinions.

    Steve the longer the videos the better. I always feel relaxed after one of your videos just talking about all different things and watching the beautiful scenery as we’re doing it and even though I’m in my sixties I have a disabled daughter, so I’ve made a rule that on the weekends I don’t want to be on a time limit. The weekends are for relaxing.

    Steve, as always, an excellent video!!! I've retired myself, and I agree with you; the best thing about retirement is not having to make plans. I also agree that you do have to be careful about meeting people, may it be TH-cam or any other social media, this is a dangerous world and sometimes people may not have the best intentions.

    Wow, that was a great video! You shared so much information and a lot of scenery, all of which I love! It's so cute when you share a unique door or gate come etc because it gives that ship personal perspective. As I have said before, it's like I'm on a walk with my friend and just sharing the walk! Your videos are always uplifting and inspirational. Even when the subject matter might be pretty heavy, you always give it an uplifting perspective. I think you share a lot of your personal information without oversharing. Sunset for your around with my allergies I have often wondered if your allergies are better or worse with living in the desert? Love to both you and Jim and have a great day! Thanks for another informative and fun video!

      Thanks Connie, so glad that you enjoy the videos. It’s funny how some people move to the desert and their allergies get better and others move here and they get worse. Mine have always been bad, but they are much worse here in Palm Springs. We have a lot of ragweed and I think the wind tends to stir it up a lot. 😩 I still wouldn’t wanna live anywhere else though lol! 😎👍

    I really appreciate this. I think you have a market for people wanting to move to the area, like my wife and I, but not knowing which areas are decent / LGBTQ friendly /somewhat affordable besides PS. We are looking at Sun City, so we know what we're getting, but we also think, maybe we don't want to pay all those HOA fees...lol I did notice that house prices in Indio are a little better, but it's out there. We came down last weekend to look at 55 plus communities. Palm Desert Greens manufactured homes community is ideally located, and reasonable, but they do have an HOA pf $400 a month. Sun City in Indio had better prices, but you said it's more windy, and it's much further from PS we noticed. Not too bad though. Maybe 10 miles? Thank you for the information! I look forward ro moving down that way soon. Im up for walking anytime!

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi LA, it’s definitely not an easy decision buying here. Or probably buying anywhere. There are always so many different factors to take into consideration. I guess it always depends on which is the most important. I do love Sun City, but like you say, both Son cities are at least a half hour away from the city of Palm Springs. During the winter season there’s a lot more traffic so it could even take longer. The Indio/La Quinta area can be really nice though. It’s a lot more like orange county there that here in Palm Springs. Good luck with your search and I hope you eventually find the perfect place! 😎👍

    Always great videos! I was born and raised in Palm Springs ( then later annexed to Cat City). My dad was a firefighter/engineer for the Palm Springs fire department for 25 years. In fact, he’s moving back as we speak. ❤️🤣✌🏼 As an ally, with family in the LGBT+ community, this was a no-brainer to us. We knew this is where we’re going to retire. All of our friends and family will be welcome And a lot safer than where we’re living at now, in Tennessee. As a former resident and a longtime visitor, I would recommend anybody that wants to move there to visit in the winter and also in the height of summer. Just so you see exactly how the weather is. ❤️. It can get very hot, but the city and the area is just so beautiful. To me, it’s worth the heat.

    A trip out to Palm Springs always makes me feel good. It's such a friendly, laid back place. You can get a modest condo for about $300,000 but a classic mid mod home is going to start at about $700,000 on up. Also, the summers are brutal. The heat is intense, often around 105- 110 every day. So your lifestyle wlll have to adjust to that...like..no hiking!
    Habitat restoration usually involves planting native plants.
    I agree about bike riding-here in LA it's suicidal, as much as they push and push people to stop driving and ride a bike instead. Not realistic.

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Exactly BB, Sadly every summer hikers forget how hot it gets here and how fast you can get dehydrated and they die while hiking up in the hills! 🥵 And as much as I would love to ride a bike every day he said it exactly. I can’t even imagine trying to do it up in LA! 😳 we do have the new CV link though for bicycles that completely bypasses all motor vehicles, so I might have to try that at some point. Thanks for sharing 😎👍

    Your insights are very accurate in my estimation. I am a native of the greater Los Angeles area. Housing prices in the metro areas of California are higher than most other states. Clearly, luxury & exclusive neighborhoods in other states could be priced equally or higher. Also your advice on gay community integration there in Palm Springs sounded reasonable. Thanks for the friendly walking tour. In general, 25 to 30 minutes videos are good lengths for the mean of viewers; statistically speaking.

For me it's a nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there, (to expensive, our gas it not even 4.00 cash or charge) just my option. • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Foster, thanks for the feedback. I’m like you. If the content and topic is good then it doesn’t really matter how long it is. The hard part is that as a TH-cam or you never really know what people will be interested in. Most of my videos got 1000 to 2000 views, but when I walked in the cemetery the other day for some reason that video got almost 15,000 views lol. But my other cemetery walks usually only got 1000 to 2000 views like the others. Usually well I think viewers will really like a video it turns out to be a complete bomb and when I think it’s a video no one will watch it usually turns out to be super popular lol! My gauge of what other people like to watch is definitely broken so I just do the videos I like to do and every now and then my subscribers like them too lol! 😄👍

And there aren’t a lot of street lights, and we have a lot of drunk tourists in town on vacation so pedestrians and bicyclists get run over all the time. 😩 I have to stay very vigilant when I’m out walking! 😳 thanks for the great question. I will try to answer it for everyone in a future video. 👍

      Hi John, yes, I went about a year ago with my brothers when they were in town. I shared one short video on this channel of the giraffes. At the time I wasn’t thinking about doing really long video walks. I did film the entire day, but I did it vertically instead of horizontally thinking that I was just going to share it as shorts. We will definitely be going back and I will share a longer, full video at that time. Thanks for asking John! 😎👍

    I lived in Palm Springs in the late 80's early 90's and my boyfriend was a landscape designer. Oleanders had a disease that spread very quickly killing off beautiful privacy hedges. They even had to remove them on the I10 median near Banning. Ficus became the new privacy hedges around town!

    Hi Steve, Is there honestly a bad part of PS? Or perhaps I should ask, what do you consider to be a bad part?
    I was surprised to hear that houses are cheaper in the "windy" part of PS. I can honestly say that is a new one for me as far as housing prices go.
    I was one of the people that was confused about your grandson. Plus he lost a lot of weight and looked so different. I wanted desperately to change my name when I was a kid up into my late 20's. I hated my name because there are several spellings of Stacy. People always spelled it wrong and my spelling is the unisex spelling. As in Stacy Keach, for a famous example.
    I have a question and you can just answer it here if you prefer. I noticed throughout PS that in front of most homes there's walls or high hedges or both. Do you know if this was started by famous people wanting privacy or just a common build design?
    And I watch all the videos you post. So there's my answer. Have a lovely week and hi to Jim. Peace...

    I hated my first name so much, I legally changed it when I was 40. Been 20 years now. My only regret is that I didn't do it when I was in my early 20's. My new name is Reid. I love it. But I won't mention that other hated name. I was teased a lot and made fun of. The last straw for me was when I was in the bank one day and the teller looked at my name, looked at me and said, (verbatim), "Why did your parents name you that. Did they not like you." People can be cruel even in adulthood. I understand now how hard it is for parents to choose a name for their new child. Try picking one out for yourself.

    Hello Steve, I just found your second channel, been a subbie of your graveyard one for a while. I have never changed my name, my family used to call me by my nick name and I asked them to use my given name when I was 13. I thought I was a grown woman then! I am married and my husband uses his surname and I use mine. My cousin who transitioned changed her first name (dead name) to a name more fitting for a lady (her comment). She lives in NM and it is not friendly.

I just watched a TH-cam video a couple of days ago that said New Mexico has one of the largest number of LGBTQ plus people in the country. I thought the video also said it was very LGBTQ plus family. I guess it always comes down to the towns or the cities or even the neighborhoods. I hope she is able to move at some point and find a friendlier community. unfortunately, in this current political environment the hate is spreading everywhere fast. 😩🤞👍

On our street alone, there are two gay couples and a third lesbian one with whom we were invited for dinner. It's also quite accepting here. We consider ourselves more suburban gays. Lowest price condo is 169???? Very cheap. I wonder how that place is compared to Wilton Manors???? Wilton Manors has 13000 people lowest condo is 200000 in 1bedin Oakland Park. Lowest one bedroom condo in nearby LAUDERHILL is only 75000that is bargain price except that area is mostly black dangerous too bad for friend she got mugged so she moved but let's get the gay people to buy in and change neighborhood that's what they did to Oakland Park and that's what they did and now it's getting expensive but there are some cheap spots and Wilton Manors was very very cheap 30 years ago I know it's getting more expensive cheapest places there one bedroom with 250000or 300000???
