    I have a dear friend who is descended from Vlad Dracula on his father's side (he can prove it). He stands about 6'4" with blonde straight hair, blue eyes, and a nose very similar to that shown in your re-creation. He fortunately has no trouble traveling by daylight, and has not impaled anyone that I know of.

    I'm romanian and I have to tell you that you did an amazing job. I have to mention, though, that back then there were different times and you have no idea how cruel the ottomans were against christians and what they did in the balkans. So he had to do something on a higher level of cruelty in order to scare them away. And also, every tough leader controlled the noble class by fear or else, they would've betrayed the leader for their own sake. The nobles were pretty cruel to the peasants and slavery was in its prime time. It was a mess, there were very tough times, but it's our history and we were surrounded only by enemies everywhere.

The christian and islamic war is all about a abrahamic war raged against the noble aryans... it was created for protect the chrstiains and in excuse for killing the native aryan bloodlines the none jewish roots.. the europe people are xtianized but their root is older then chritianty and its pagan.. that is why the abrahamic moslems and the xtians working together and they are wanted to wiping out our native bloodline with excusing attacking the xtians, it is a replacement project

    • @Qwertyuiop-xz3kj
      @Qwertyuiop-xz3kj ปีที่แล้ว

      I am from the balkan and this is absolutely not true. i will prove it to you by one simple evidence. the existence of christian, pagan and jewish population till this day. unlike the romans who were cruel to pagans, jews and muslims, the ottomans never converted a population by force or tortured them. if it was so how you and your people like to believe because your churches like to demonstrate the ottomans as evil as themseles were, there wouldnt be a single christian left. even in turkiye before the forced resettlement 1921(!!!!) turkiyes population was about 40% christian, amongs them were about a million(some sources said more) turkish (!) christians themselves lol. name a christian country that had that much muslim or jewish population? also slavery was always existend, even in the roman empire and in the ones before, a whole ethnicity was named after slavery- the slavs. and last time i checked it wasnt the ottomans doing that. your people love to twist things just to potray the other side as evil. also how on earth can a folk that is accusingly tortured and enslaved had a healthy cultural sharing on food national clothing and embroidery and music? the slavery amongst christians were more brutal. whereas slavery was promoted in the bible, the quran recognizes slavery as a source of injustice, as it places the freeing of slaves on the same level as feeding a poor person. On the other hand, the abolition of slavery with a unilateral decision may result in detriment to Islamic societies. Because while non-muslim societies are constantly enslaving muslim captives after the war, not giving this opportunity to islamic societies and freeing the captives will result in its weakening. nontheless freeing the enslaved army of the enemies was a practise and people had the freedom to speak their own language practise their own religions. which the romans never ever enabled the regions they colonized.

      I understand and agree with your comments. Vlad protected his people and the Orthodox Christian faith of his homeland. He also had to guard his country against the Catholic Hungarians to the north. The Ottomans committed atrocities against the Orthodox for centuries. I don't like the huge amount of bloodshed committed by both sides, but that is the way things were.

      @manda-panda ปีที่แล้ว +70

      @@lindat4294 I second this. Some people truly have no concept of the cruelty of those days, I don't think anyone can really fully imagine the horrors of those days. Christians were being wiped out. And he had to put a stop to it. Some people these days believe that Christian men are supposed to be soft, limp wristed doormats- but they're not. All thru the Bible they're valiant warriors & protectors of their people. They have good morals & love God, but that doesn't mean they were weak & just waiting to be slaughtered.

    Vlad was very much loved by the peasants-the poor class and hated by the noble class. He found a way to clean his Valahia of thieves and criminals. He managed to keep the nobles at a distance not letting them oppress the poor. Vlad was a righteous man not a tyrant as the modern world depict him. He brought justice to his people and made his kingdom safe. It is said that if one would leave a bag with gold money in the middle of the road nobody would pick it up. The Ottomans posed a constant threat to his kingdom so Vlad had to do something, and chose cruel methods to threaten them too to stop their invasion. Knowing how cruel the Ottomans were, Vlad had to find equally cruel methods, if not even worse. So he sent his "message" to them. Those were times of war of hundreds of years. Thank you for your video. I enjoyed it. I like how modern Vlad looks, a vey handsome man.

  • @teslagirl1

    To many, Vlad was a great hero. The nobility did whatever they wanted to the poor...until Vlad the second came to the throne. The nobility was also responsible for the short reigns and early deaths of many of their rulers...so getting them under control was doubtless a matter of personal safety as well. And then there were his stunning victories against the Ottoman empire. Quite a guy.

    I have to agree with one of the commenters below that putting historic people into our modern context doesn't serve the history. He may seem very sadistic by standards of modern times, but like you said as well that in Romania, he is seen as a hero because he was only doing what he had to do. Many other people that we consider modern heroes have blood trailing behind their shadow. Even modern people that we consider brave or heroic have blood on their hands or, at the very least, evil in their hearts.
    On the note of your recreation though: STUNNING doesn't even seem to capture it properly. Those incredible eyes and the smirk... breathtaking. in Spain Chris Colombus is celebrated as a hero so much that their national day is about Colombus and Cortez,. You know like 4th of july which celebrates Americas Indep from GB, we'll in spain they celebrate these two like heroes that propelled them into a world stage, however in reading the journals, these two guys were not good people at all and displayed strong symptons of Psycopathy , blood on their hands as well.
      The US used to celebrate Colombus day on October 11th, hoever today that holiday has been removed, its still carried on by the boomer generation, but I think this year it was officially removed and is now Native American day. Some can argue that they too had blood on their hands, but we'll there are only like less than a million of them now so.

He pretty much used that to keep good people safe, and bad people afraid. And if you know the saying "stuck between a rock and a hard place", this was Romania throughout the history, being invaded and enslaved over and over and over by different powers. This is why Vlad Dracul or Vlad Tepes (there's no Vlad Dracula, Dracula is the name of the book. "Drac" meant dragon, the "ul" at the end means "the" , Dracul= The Dragon. But nowadays "drac" is used for "devil"), is considered a hero by Romanians.

    In the mid-1970s there was a book titled: "Dracula: A Biography of Vlad the Impaler." I was lucky to have been given a pre-publication copy of it. One of the authors was actually a descendent of Vlad III. It was very detailed about the history. Strangely, I remember a lot about that book.
    When you discussed how Vlad and his brother were given to the Sultan this book went into more detail. It said that Vlad's brother was quite handsome and became the courtesan of the Sultan. This went on for a number of years while Vlad was trained mainly in military affairs. This, obviously was a major mistake because Vlad used it against the Ottomans later. There is a story that when Vlad controlled his homeland the Ottomans camped nearby. While they were sleeping Vlad took 100 of his best men into the encampment and slit the throats of 10,000 of the enemy.
    The book also discussed how he ruled his homeland. He was judge, jury and executioner.

    Ya, Vlad learned his skills in terror and torture from the Ottomans. Modern people have trouble understanding the ancient practice of "hostages" which was part of diplomatic practices much further into modern times than anyone would like to think. Often a leader's children (mostly sons) were part of a bargain between peoples who didn't really trust each other kind of as a bargaining chip. This doesn't mean "prisoners" as the word "hostage" means today. As long as their father was doing what was agreed to, they were often raised with the elite of the people they were "hostage" to and taught all of the skills any other elite child was taught. They were "hostages" in the sense that they couldn't leave to do whatever they wanted. The Ottomans may have looked at these boys as puppets they could put on the throne of their area once their father was killed who would look favorably on the Ottomans and do what they said. But they miscalculated with Vlad III. Vlad took what they had taught him and turned it on them.

      Not true. Vlad's enemies from a rival family and nobility, along with Saxon merchants in Transylvania, were the first who started to impale Vlad's men. Vlad was very angry and organised a penalty expedition. He turned their own weapons against the enemies. At that time, no one abroad had criticized it yet, it was a standard solution. Only later he used it as a psychological weapon against the Ottomans.

    I like your recreation. He has strong features and looks like a person whose character would also be strong and unbending. Very Southern European face. Considering the story of his life, countless betrayals, being a hostage in a foreign land and endless wars, he evolved into what we would call today "a survivor". Vlad was a man of his time - all of the atrocities that he committed (which historians greatly exaggerated over the centuries), were, unfortunately, normal practices for punishments in the region that hasn't known peace for centuries. Surrounded by enemies, every noble had a private army to defend his lands and his people. As for Vlad's psychological warfare (impaling great numbers of captives), although not unusual of the time and place, it appears to be a desperate move to keep the Turks out. It also has to be said, that some of the torture methods he borrowed from the Turks (and the East) and then used against them.

    • @belosevickris3379
      @belosevickris3379 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Exactly. Vlad didn't invent these torture methods, he probably witnessed them as a child in his captivity with the Sultan. Ottomans were perversely cruel and all he knew about torturing people he probably learned from them. He impaled people likely running them through and killing them instantly then leaving them out to scare the enemy away. Ottomans had expert impalers on their pay. They knew how to impale people without killing them outright, not damaging anything too vital so that they would live as long as possible, being impaled and in torturous agony. Christ was crucified but this was worse. My thinking is that Vlad was vilified but was no worse than any leader at the time and better than his enemies. He was torn in their side so they left horrible testimonies about him... but he just gave them tit for tat

Now, imagine a King who has to defend his small kingdom against the claims of superior powers and whose family members were brutally murdered by the surrounding nobility of the region. How would he enforce his claims? Vlad did neither dispose of a powerful army, nor was he wealthy. The answer is with utmost brutality! This was at least a way to earn a reputation, perhaps not the best one, but he got what he wanted, at least for some time. He was feared by his enemies. Do superpowers of nowadays act differently? The answer is no! And they already got everything!

    Just discovered your channel and the look of Vlad you created reminds me of a gaunt version of actor Stuart Townsend as Dorian Grey in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

    2:52 that is not Vlad’s brother Radu. That is Stephen the Great which was in fact Vlad’s cousin and the person who helped him get the throne. Stephen the Great ruled around 40 years and had at least 35 victories against the Ottomans.

      Sorry about that! I was researching pictures of Radu and there wasn’t much there. It was between that picture and one other. Since he was Radu the Handsome I picked the more handsome of the two! I’ll get better at things like this!

      @@RoyaltyNowStudios Your modern look of Vlad looks almost like a picture of one of a great romanian actor, his name being Adrian Pintea. Sadly Mr. Pintea passed away.
      But you did a great wonderful work researching for history and working to make such a great modern look of Vlad the Impeller !
      Anyway, as so many people wrote about the fact that the picture of Radu Handsome is ,actually, the image of another great king (made holly by orthodox romanian church), why don't you make a modern look of Stephan the Great , king of Moldavia? He was a ruler like his cousin, Vlad the Impeller, but he didn't use the impale method, he has other ones...like cutting heads of the boyars whom he invited to lunch, but they made the mistake to respond to the king affirmation not with respect.
      Thank you for such great work!

    ...So apparently, Castlevania was historically accurate. Always interesting learning weird things.

    Really amazing. He’s actually handsome in a Johnny Depp sort of way. I love looking at you recreations. Sometimes looking at historical pics, it’s hard to see any other way, so looking at you pics makes these historical people “come alive”. Thanks, April.

    That was really great! He wasn't too bad looking and I guess, he suffered a great deal when his father and brother were brutally murdered. We often forget that these historical figures were people just like us, who experienced loss, love, hatred, fear, etc. Your modern-day depictions of these people help us see them in a different way. Knowing a little about their lives helps us to understand that they were not just mono-dimensional but complex individuals subject, as we are, to the vagaries of life and circumstance. If possible, I would really love to see your modern-day depictions of characters from the Civil War era or the Wild West era. Thank you for your work.

    I would hint at the Shroud of Turin, but this may be too much to ask. If so, perhaps John the Apostle, believed to be the last surviving of the Apostles. There may perhaps exist sufficient portraits and sculptures from the Catholic Church to arrive at some hypothetical conclusion. Would this not make an Excellent Christmas Surprise?
