      It's confusing... Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, father of Alexandre Dumas pere and grandfather of Alexandre Dumas fils, was half-black, born to a French nobleman and an Afro-Haitian slave, and rose to become one of Napoleon's top generals. Dumas pere was author of dozens of books including the 3 Musketeers, and his mother was probably French. It's a fascinating history, well worth a spin down a wikipedia rabbit-hole.

    As a Black man that has been playing the violin since the age of six I am up lifted filled with dignity & pride and so proud that God gave me the gift of having the opportunity to play the violin even when everyone around me bashed me for it. It fills my spirit with joy to see stories like this in a world where a man like me is profiled and looked at as not good enough, envied, and hated for being who I am in my own skin. The more I grow the more I understand who I am and who I come from. True creators , inventors, healers, masters of any craft we get our hands on. Know who you are and become the best version of self. Thank you so much for introducing me to this wonderful man and a piece of history I knew nothing about. I scored well on a academic test that won me a spot in the newly created music department at my elementary school. That first year, they chose the violin. I wanted to learn how to play the flute, and I told my teacher to give my spot to someone else. My Mom heard about it, and when I got home, my Mother set me straight on a few things, and I learned how blessed I was. I was a little black girl, and my Father was in the army. My violin case was taped with green army tape as we didn't have much. Although I didn't have the best, I carried my violin case, because I knew it was what was inside the case and me that would help me to contend with the heckling. I so appreciated that lesson, and today I still love the violin and all string instruments, and adore classical music. If we are given a chance, our light can illuminate the world. All children have a gift. I am so thankful for this history about a Black Knight who was a brilliant man of stature and musical prodigy, and he played my favorite instrument. I will pass his story on to the children I mentor today. Didn't mean to write so much, but this inspired me. Thank you for this spark of light. A life that celebrates the will and determination to overcome any barriers place before a person. This is a story that needs to be championed. Not the constant bickering and whining that takes place these days. The whining happens from both the right and the left.
      But you can not deny that black people have been left out of history. Individuals like Alessandro de’Mediici, the Duke of Florence, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, who rose to the rank of General in the French Revolutionary Army, Abram Petrovich Gannibal, who was an eminent Russian military leader and grandfather to Alexander Pushkin who is considered the founder of modern Russian literature.
      The point is this, people of African decent are left out of Western history books and movies more than the average person thinks. And there is a disservice to humanity when their contributions to the history of mankind is not honestly represented.

    This was an incredible story. There's so much about our history that has been purposefully suppressed. Thank you for research and sharing this slice of history. It's a true testament that opportunity creates "greatness." The last images truly moved me to tears. So many of our likenesses, stories and accomplishments have been and continue to be "Whitewashed." Those images are stunning.

    He was never called Le Mozart Noir during his life. He was older than Wolfgang Amadeus aka Mozart and may have influenced the young prodigy. His style of classical music was also a Revolution in itself… sounds like the hip hop of classical music

      It was meant as a compliment. He never influenced Mozart. None of Joseph's music sounds like hip hop- none

      @@hortleberrycircusbround9678 Joseph Bologne lived during the era of the Code Noir Law which is Jim Crow on steroids and he was far more accomplished than Wolfgang Amadeus (Fencing, Horse riding, Military, elite shooting, violinist, composer). He even died after Mozart and was a revolutionary figure that was omitted from history for obvious reasons.

      @@hortleberrycircusbround9678 just reread your answer and you literally thought I meant hip hop… Just meant his rhythm was faster… that’s illustrated in the first scene of the movie Chevalier.

      @@Longasseboy that entire film is a docu drama dressed in fiction and revisionism, that musical duel never occurred. It's more of a sex and the city episode gone awry.

    • @Longasseboy
      @Longasseboy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hortleberrycircusbround9678of course… The duel never occurred. What is known: Mozart and Bologne were contemporaries and had the same patron: The Duke of Orleans the brother of Louis XVI. Bologne was the top dog not a disputable fact at the time. Mozart looked up to him. Also Mozart died well before Bologne who lived to accomplish more. Read history and come to this debate informed please.

    Thank you so much for educating us about Chevalier de Saint-Georges. There are many such figures in European history (e.g., England’s Queen Charlotte or the Roman emperor Septimius Severus) but we don’t hear enough about them. I enjoyed the modernization of the portrait, but wish we had also seen the enlivening of the face. Deep gratitude for reminding the public about this important historical figure. He’s an important precursor to Paul Robeson.

      How is Septimius Severus similar to the subject of the video in any manner?

      Queen Charlotte? This is a fabrication that her lineage came from one of the King of Portugals concubines . Please do not read misguided and fake history.

    I regret that I am not one to take the time to comment online. I am, however, very appreciative of the creativity that is available in this era of positive social media. I am thankful that it allows us to view so much creative content that we would never have access to in mainstream media. That said, hats off to Royalty Now for this extraordinary glimpse into the life of Joseph Bologne, especially in anticipation of the coming movie, Chevalier: the true untold story. Thanks and I pray that you would continue being creative, accurate, and bold.
