Hi Vanessa. Have you ever tested or considered buying a light weight, waterproof shower bench/stool or plastic footstool to sit on when grooming a pet close to the ground? Although they're not perfect solutions, they could conceivably help reduce the stress & strain on your knees, back & neck during parts of the groom. At the very least, they're probably worth a try. (FWIW: Shower benches/stools and plastic footstools are generally inexpensive and very easy to clean & maintain.)
my rottweiler was the same. she was only "bad" when she turned into a furry anchor on the end of the leash. Her neck was as thick as my thigh too so even a choke chain wouldnt budge her.
I groom a dog that won't stand. I gently ease her on her back to do her belly. lol It's a pain but she lays there all four feet up! Ha! She runs away when we're done too...just like Jamison did in your yard!
I had a very furry rescue dog, overweight, and she would not stand, because I had a thorough vet we found out that she had seven bladder stones, and she had surgery to remove them. Man was my dog relieved to get that pain removed. He may have an underlying health issue.
especially coming from what sounded like a hoarding/breeding mill situation. doubt that kinda place did any health testing on the animals they bred there, I'd also assume at minimum he's got some pretty painful joints. poor pup 😔
Agree, my best friend jus saved a Chihuahua out of a backyard breeder situation. The breeder pulled the dog up on her neck and shacked it right in front of her a total stranger. Imagine what's going on behind closed doors in there hellhouses

Dogs are funny with their grooming. Both mine need regular grooming. The poodle springs into the shower for his bath. The spaniel will do everything in his power to avoid the “torture”.
My dog screams on top of his lungs. Like I am killing him . When i run the bath and he runs and hides under the blankets on the bed. If the bath is for me I get into the tub and he comes out haaaaaa. Vanessa, you won’t be done in by a feline with it’s death daggers. It will be by a canine box of rocks! 😟 I know you said before that because of the tile inside the shower you can’t attach anything to the walls. If the ceiling isn’t tiled, you can attach to the ceiling joists through the drywall. Or if you have a half wall on one side of the shower and the room side isn’t tiled you could attach to that. I am a retired nurse and have worked with patients unable to walk. A device called a Hoyer lift is used to get them out of bed and to a shower. If you google Hoyer classic pool lift you will see a metal frame to support the sling similar to what I was thinking of but I thought of using wood lag bolted to the wall, whichever would be stronger. Also Chewy has a Walkabout walkabelly support dog sling that is a style that also might work. Mesh for the fabric to wash and rinse through, parachute cord to keep it light yet very strong OR ratchet straps to easily be able to adjust the drop down length. The ratchet could be attached to the frame and attach to the sling with a carabiner to maintain a light but strong sling. I can picture exactly in my mind how it would look and work so I hope my description has been clear enough for you to understand, usually that’s not what happens though. Your Nonno is extremely intelligent, innovative and creative and I am sure he could take my description and produce a drawing of my idea with many improvements to it. I don’t know if Julian has any carpentry skills but if not, Nonno can supervise and direct while Julian constructs. 😉 Take it from a retired nurse who was your size and build, lifted heavy patients like you do dogs that it will catch up to you. Whenever it does, it’s not fun. Please do something to help yourself now. Even if it’s not my idea. 😊💕
It was wonderful of you yo offer such well- thought out, helpful advice to a younger "colleague." I had friend who was a nurse in ortho, but she had to move on to maternity after about 10 years. Vanessa, everytime I see you kneeling on your floor, my knees ache in sympathy! Great job, as always, but I highly suggest knee pads or a garden kneeler pad.

I don't think he was purposely trying to be difficult. You did such a beautiful job with him and all the unfortunate challenges he presented.

He's definitely not happy with what's going on but he's not particularly afraid looking at his face through most of the groom I don't really see any whale eyes and he's barely even panting. My little dog does the same hiding maneuver when I try to brush his paws or trim his nails. As frustrating as it is, it always makes me laugh because I imagine him going, "Foot? Never heard of it. Sounds made up. I am just a fluffy cylinder with no appendages."
When i saw the title was like...nooo this is not a caucasian shepherd lol? This looks like our romanian breed...Mioritic shepherd. And then i listen the video and I am very glad Americans heard of our national dog breeds in Romania.
What a beautiful coat you uncovered! Way to push through, especially on the "tree trunk" nail clipping. It was evident by how he was running around in your backyard that he was glad his nails got clipped.
Hi Vanessa, if you are going to be kneeling on a hard floor for a long time then please consider wearing knee pads. You are young yet, but your knees will thank you as you age! Also, Happy Easter! 🐇🌸🐣
You are always so optimistic. You'll help any animal in any way you can. Even if you know you can not get it done, perfect, you do what you can to help the animal.
What a sweet boy XD Thank you for letting him stay comfortable during the groom. Forcing a dog to stand that really doesn't want to may result in a better grooming outcome, but with an overweight dog I can't help but think it'd be a little mean.

I finally figured it out. Why I love your videos that is. You meet the animal where they are while clearly demonstrating a respectful balance between providing appropriate accommodations and having the animals best interest mind. ❤
Also the way his fur on your outfit really pops!
My little dog does the same hiding maneuver when I try to brush his paws or trim his nails. As frustrating as it is, it always makes me laugh because I imagine him going, "Foot? Never heard of it. Sounds made up. I am just a fluffy cylinder with no appendages."
That's so funny!!
When i saw the title was like...nooo this is not a caucasian shepherd lol? This looks like our romanian breed...Mioritic shepherd. And then i listen the video and I am very glad Americans heard of our national dog breeds in Romania.
As usual off the charts miracle worker! Great job!!!❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🐕❤️
Oh, he was a good boy. And turned out beautifully!
No matter how much of a fight these pets give, their moods are noticeably better when she is done. Great work, I love watching the transformations 🐾✨
Good job doing what you could, Vanessa. Jameson looks great!!
This is one of the most huggable dogs I've ever seen. He's adorable.
What a sweet boy XD Thank you for letting him stay comfortable during the groom. Forcing a dog to stand that really doesn't want to may result in a better grooming outcome, but with an overweight dog I can't help but think it'd be a little mean.
