My dad had a beautiful, strong tenor voice. I woke up this morning with this song on my heart, remembering Daddy singing the tenor line above the melody so many times when I was growing up. He’s been singing in Glory for nearly 10 years now, but I still miss him so much.
Do not forget this culture. This is the hard line of European exploration that endured untold suffering- the people who left England, Scotland and Ireland and ended up in the foothills of a distant continent. Comforted by tunes from home in a new and glorious sound. Love from Ireland. God bless America. The rain falls, the wind blows, how glorious.
Ricky Skaggs, the pride of eastern KY has taken the torch from Bill Monroe and carried it into our time. He is a national treasure and continues to teach us all about our rich mountain music heritage. Tony Rice and Ricky are masters, and their easy style hides some pretty complex and creative work.
I was not prepared for how deeply this touched me; even after spinning the vinyl and CD a hundred times or more, to see them captured live and realize the artistry.
May Choirs of Angels Sing thee to Thy Eternal Rest Tony !! Than k you so so much for all the beautiful music. We are both the same age and loved music. Our Blessed LORD needed a wonderful musician to play Hymns for Him !
Rest In Peace, Mr. Tony Rice. You were one of the biggest influences on me growing up listening to your music and as I learned to play. A true legend of which there will never be another.
I had the privilege to see him with David Grisman in 1977 at the Cambridge folk festival. Along with Doc Watson and Clarence White, he was definitely one of the best. R.I.P., Tony. 💟
My favorite hymn , i would go to church with my grandmother when i was a child and it was the first hymn they would sing. Love this version, Tony and Ricky are awesome.
This must be one of the best renditions ever. Thanks for sharing this with the world. We never get to hear such heart warming pure Blue Grass musicianship in South Africa
Im watching this video to try to learn how Ricky plays the mandolin parts on this song. I can't do it. First reason is because Ricky Scaggs is a master musician and I am not. The second reason is that tears keep filling my eyes. Good music will make you feel somthing. This song reminds me of Heaven. Where the Lord is and my many loved ones Who are with Him. Thank you Ricky Skaggs And Tony Rice. And Tony Rice may you rest in peace.
Just love this song, what Joy it is to know that our Souls will never die if we have the SALVATION a God, My friend if you dont know him there is not much time to make it right and sever God..May the Lord bless all who read this for now and ever..
To Canaan's land, I'm on my way Where the soul of man never dies My darkest night will turn to day Where the soul of man never dies No sad farewells (Dear friends there'll be no sad farewells) No tear dimmed eyes (There'll be no tear dimmed eyes.) Where all is love (Where all is peace and joy and love) And the soul never dies (And the soul of man never dies) The rose is blooming there for me Where the soul of man never dies And I will spend eternity Where the soul of man never dies No sad farewells (Dear friends there'll be no sad farewells) No tear dimmed eyes (There'll be no tear dimmed eyes) Where all is love (Where all is peace and joy and love) And the soul never dies (And the soul of man never dies) The love light beams across the foam Where the soul of man never dies It shines and lights the way to home Where the soul of man never dies No sad farewells (Dear friends there'll be no sad farewells) No tear dimmed eyes (There'll be no tear dimmed eyes) Where all is love (Where all is peace and joy and love) And the soul never dies (And the soul of man never dies) No sad farewells (Dear friends there'll be no sad farewells) No tear dimmed eyes (There'll be no tear dimmed eyes) Where all is love (Where all is peace and joy and love) And the soul never dies (And the soul of man never dies)
The wonderful thing about the music community is that the songs keep us together, no matter our ages or conditions. Believe me, as you get older, you are more willing to render praise to your fellows, wrinkles warts and all.
With this great loss of Tony and so many great ones we have lost thus far i cannot imagine how beautiful the music is in heaven with all this band of angels playing and singing....heavens gain and our heartbreaking loss until we get to meet them there...💔💔💔
I love how the melody and lyrics aren't carried by one voice in this tune. both worth together to create one whole. if you took away one vocalist it would be incomplete
These two are immaculate. Does it get any better? The vocal harmonizing is heavenly. They're both just absolutely relaxed & natural ~ and tuned into one another so perfectly. Hope those beautiful lyrics apply to all and everyone ~ sinners and saints alike. It's a rough road down here and many go astray. Beautiful upload. Thank you 🙂
guitar Dave knows this, he just put the coma in the wrong place. " Ricky Skaggs is a Very Gifted Guitar Player too,". which implyies that Tony is gifted and so is Ricky.
When I listen to Ricky, I usually just put the guitar down, and really listen. There is some essential truth to his music that transcends genre and technique. Having deep roots in eastern KY and SW VA, it just makes it resonate even deeper for me. I am not religious, but I feel something in Ricky's spirituals that is authentic and timeless.
Tony is singing for the First of the Dead tonight. He who was born to save us all. Tonight he lays in the arms of Jesus Christ the one and only Son of God.
What a Blue grass Gospel duo - listen to this repeatedly. The musicianship is perfectly suited - I cannot imagine anyone else getting near this. Thanks so much for sharing
Tony is the most efficient guitar player I have ever seen. His hands hardly move from the guitar as he changes frets, and the right hand hardly goes above or below the strings as he picks. It's hard to believe he plays as many notes as he does, when the hands hardly move. I would have to get cable and tie my arms and hands down to the guitar if I played that fast. They'd be flying all up above my head and round behind me and everstuff.
RIP Tony, you went on Christmas day 2020 when I was all alone, and listening to you and wonderful Ricky. This was my favourite song, Must have been telepathy. Thank you, Maestro, you will live on forever..
Hello!!How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day..Stay Safe!
THIS SONG IS FOR MY BEST FRIEND (MY DAD) WHO I LOST ON NOVEMBER 19, 2008. MOM AND I WENT TO YOUR GRAVE TODAY WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN YOUR 52ND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. AS I STOOD THERE I REMEMBERED ALL THE MEMORIES WE MADE TOGETHER. HOW COULD GOD LEAVE ME HERE WITHOU YOU? HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU? YOU WERE MY WHOLE LIFE. YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND AND THE ONLY PERSON THAT TRULY LOVED ME. YOU WERE ALWAYS IN MY CORNER WHETHER I WAS RIGHT OR WRONG. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN DADDY. I LOVE YOU
I'm an unbelieving heathen, but I totally appreciate this metaphor of the union of Conditioned Reality with Absolute Reality. (Not to mention the shit-kickin' musicianship!)

You Know It Brother ! AMEN !

135 who gave this thumbs down are lost in the dark wilderness. I feel for their soul. And their ears
May they burn in hell. Forever.
There souls died
You can’t save ‘em all.
Hahaha I doubt those bots have ears
Mostly their ears. Sorry, but their souls really aren't my problem.

Oh my these Boys can write their own tickets especially Ricky Skaggs 🎉❤
I was not prepared for how deeply this touched me; even after spinning the vinyl and CD a hundred times or more, to see them captured live and realize the artistry.
I used to have it on something as well. I guess vinyl, but I can't remember the album. I agree. It's timeless and profound.
RIP Tony. I used to have this album years ago,but it disappeared when I moved. Two of my favorite musicians
This song puts me at peace every time I hear this rendition, RIP Tony, one of the best ever
I love this song and this version is definitive
It's not fair you can only "like" a video once. I like this one every time I hear it.
Awesome !
