    This is 1 of the channels that got me into bike packing.
    And I've just bought 1 of these bikes not 5 Minutes ago.
    If Guy has given it a good review then I've no need to worry if I brought the right bike.

      @@GuyKesTV what size was the bike (if you can remember) and what is your height and leg inseam if you would be so kind to answer. I'm 181cm tall with a 75cm inseam and I'm conflicted between a order for XL or XXL. don't see much diference on paper except XXL is longer (which a I want), but I'm still woried I won't make the best choice. • @howlandgrowl
    @howlandgrowl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Guy, great review as usual, just a couple of questions, one hopefully you can answer, maybe not the other one? What is the maximum width tyre the bike can take? A Rocky Mountain Growler takes 2.6 tyres easily, can the Merida match that? Secondly, why do Merida build a bike that's designed for the UK market, influenced by UK riders, launch the bike in cracking green/red colour combo. and then say it's not available over here in that colour, we get a two tone horrible purple for the flagship model? Hoping to get my hands on one of these, but may have to try one of the mail order stores from Europe to get that colour scheme? Merida kicking the LBS "in the balls" with drab colour schemes for the UK market. Can we start a petition to get Merida to bring that colour scheme to the UK?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'd get a 2.5 in no problem but I reckon it'd be very tight with a proper 2.6in. And no idea why this colour isn't coming into the UK, it's even better in the flesh 🙄

    • @howlandgrowl
      @howlandgrowl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Guy, found out from Merida that because the bike is UK designed they have a "special colour scheme" unique for our market! Whoever thought of the purple must have been pissed at the time?

    Originally I ordered this 600 model at my LBS in overseas back in mid September, the shop said it should arrive by November. However, the shop called today and said the shipment is delayed till next year April/May coz the other components such as drivetrain etc. made by Shimano are in shortage, and so even if Merida could produce solely the frame on time, they couldn't deliver the complete bike!! I’d say that puts you on a large as you’re only an inch shorter than I am and I’ve got really stumpy legs

  • @joeevans266
    @joeevans266 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hiya Guy. If you had the choice between this and the aluminium santa cruz chameleon, no budget, no comparing the components just based on the two that you have reviewed, if you had them both sat in your garage which would you choose to ride?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you take price out of the equation then I’d probably go Chameleon as ride quality is amazing for alloy and you get the singlespeed option and a lifetime warranty. It’s impossible to give a definitive call on the ride without testing them head to head though and the Merida feels great for the money, esp with the bigger tyre

    hi guy torn between the big trail 600 and the canyon grand canyon 8. using it on some trails/road. which one would be more suited for a newbie?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jose, for a mix of OK on easy trails and easier pedalling on the road then Grand Canyon is a classic old skool cross country hardtail. If you want a bike to help you ride more interesting stuff off road and are happy to have more of a slog on the road to get there/back then I'd go Merida or the new Canyon Stoic. If most of your riding will be road with an occasional exploring of easy (not too steep or rocky) trails then maybe even have a look at a gravel bike like the Canyon Grail or Merida Silex. Hope that helps.

      @GuyKesTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ey up Lachlan, I’m 180cm and I’d be tempted to go XL for the reach, especially as you might still grow a bit. A large will be easier to flick and Chuck around if you’re more into jibbing than just fast downhills.
