The Best Michael Jordan Trash Talking Story - Chicago Bulls vs Vancouver Grizzlies Darrick Martin

  • This is one of the best Michael Jordan trash talking stories, if not the best, courtesy of Darrick Martin and Antonio Harvey - teammates at the time on the Vancouver Grizzlies.
    In November 1995, during their expansion season, the Vancouver Grizzlies improbably found themselves leading the soon-to-be 72-win Chicago Bulls in the fourth quarter. After hitting a jumper to boost the Grizzlies' lead with about two minutes left, guard Martin ran by the Bulls' bench and said, "I told you we were going to beat you tonight."
    Jordan almost immediately stood up, checked himself into the game and, as he sauntered onto the court, said to Martin, "Little man, I told you not to trash-talk me."
    Jordan then proceeded to obliterate Vancouver almost single-handedly - scoring 19 of his 29 points in the last 6 minutes - and then looking to the bench on his last basket and saying "Shut up you little bitch."

    Jordan has a red button.
    Everyone wants to touch that red button. Those people who experience the red button.
    They never touched it ever again.

    The guy trash-talking him obviously knew he's not even close to being close to MJ's level, he was just having fun and having some friendly banter with the best player in the game, he was smiling at 4:28 when MJ approached him while MJ was serious af, so it looks a bit funny. On the other hand, this sort of almost psychopathic-level of pettiness and competitiveness MJ had WAS a big reason why he's the GOAT.

    • @samuelmuiruri4704
      @samuelmuiruri4704 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      clearly most ple knew Jordan would overreact and baited him. they are just playing with his ego. but we might not have his legacy if he took that baiting lightly like most ple would. i watch soccer. one coach called his opponent a diver-a player who looks for penalties- u should never provoke your opposition if u are smart. they want to beat u already, do not give them more reasons

      He was never 'petty' with those who never disrespected him. Seriously, go look up what he says about Larry Bird to this day. He has literally demurred, and almost been kind of ... uncomfortable, MJ equivalent ... when people have told him to his face that he was way better than Larry, and basically told them they don't realize just how insanely good Prime Bird truly was. Ferocious respect ... toward the legend that compared him to God Playing Basketball when he was still a younger player.

    This is a really good breakdown of one of the stories that you just didn't hear about at the time. I saw this game on TV when it was played, and never quite got why Jordan came alive (though I was happy to see it - was a big fan is I grew up in his hometown and just a few years younger). I remember thinking it was a little uncool he was barking at someone on the sidelines, but didn't connect the dots. This sews it together better than other videos I've seen - thanks!
