That is a beautiful area! In bight sunlight, i can just imagine that area just sparkling in the sun. Very abundant for the collector but you have to be very determined if you plan on going there. Very treacherous climbing! Beautiful samples you guys brought back. I hear you about the weather! It just sucks this year! its currently raining in Portland. But its a great video. I appreciate your way of just surface collecting, and not a destructive way of obtaining samples. And only taking what you need and not taking a ton of material, just to have it in storage! I will be very interested in that white growth on some of the samples. I figured it was just a break down of the crystal in the uv over time, but this is totally a separate mineral growth on the crystal! Very interesting! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your passion with us!
The growth on some of the crystals is very interesting, I'm not sure what it is but I'm hoping that this video will bring it to light and maybe someone can point me in the correct direction.
I did get some nice banding in small nodules like those back in the day not too far from that area. Not all had it, but occasionally they had nice surprises. I'd be happy just pulling up a bunch of those. But those crystal pieces are beautiful! Putting this site on my list for the next trip your way.

Its been some time now and its slowly healing by itself but sometimes different positions are tough. I would like to to return to this location next year. I think that would really fun.

During my 7th grade in Deming Wa. The railroad way was full of this stuff, and we even found round rocks that were full of that crystal stuff.

This was SO helpful - I had some greenish color changes to some material I got from this location and I wasn't sure what happened!
What a great hunt! Love the views from that mountaintop. Something we don’t get down here in the LOWcountry of SC! 😂 Picking through other people’s tailings piles is always one of our favorite activities too. There’s so much out there that other people leave behind! Hearing mention of your specimen reference jars was a nice touch at the end. I’d definitely be interested to see a video on your method of accessioning specimens. Organization is such an important part of any collection, and all too often, people carelessly throw together their finds from multiple localities. Thanks as always for taking us along!

Very gorgeous place I do love the mountains, Some nice finds, but with my balance issues not a place I dare try, but it`s always nice to see what and where treasures can be found.
This place has some sketchy spots reguardless of a balance issue or not. I mostly worry about our dog in places like this so we keep her on a short leash.
Someone left some good pieces behind and you cleaned them up to be amazing! Thats just so cool!
I wonder what they were finding if this is what was left? I guess I will need to wait until next time we visit.

A couple real nice attention grabbers to pull people into a display, and plenty of littles to micro mount and/or play with. That trail was gnarly looking, at least you went down it loaded instead of hiking up. Keep on rocking it.
The trail sure is one that is not friendly for those with kids or out of shape, that's for sure.
i love how the mountians in the far distance have that vibrant blue hue😍🥰😍🤩 there is a section of the great dividing range here in Australia that is called the blue mountians (New South Wales) because of the hue at a distance, now for the fun fact, they get there colour due to Eucalyptus oil droplets emitted from the forests combine with dust particles and water vapour, scattering short wavelength rays of light which are predominantly blue in colour......yeah i was a lighting nerd before my rock obsession hahahahaha
Man, that's beautiful country up there. That looks like what would be a zone of Igneous Intrusion, up along that ridge. Pretty awesome spot to collect stuff. Must be all sorts of minerals about.
Central Washington and central Oregon have so many awesome minerals. It's truly unbelievable!! The forests on the east side of the crest are really nice too

NICE finds guys! This was beginning of June? You were probably up there at the same time I was there with Old Guy Adventures. We were just one ridge west pulling some beautiful blue seam agate.
Gotta love that area, even when it's covered in mud!

At 10:54, you show a rugged, little flower on the hillside. It is a Bitterroot. Early "French trappers knew the plant as (bitter root)" Wikipedia. Lewis and Clark took samples back to Washington, DC in 1806. The plant was named in honor of Lewis "
Oh cool! I didn't know that. I will commit that name to memory. I really like looking at the plants but its not something I know a lot about.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding If you know when to look (they bloom at different times every spring) you can see it in the Scablands along I-90 near the Fishtrap Exit and Highway 2 between Davenport and Creston.
Havent got to hunting yet being too hot as it is, though I am reading a book about geology , it does help a bit now..

@@CurrentlyRockhounding Idk. It got to 38"C in the shade. Very humid though, bad combo. Its cooling down a bit.
My grandparents gathered crystals on Crystal Mountain back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's, also Ellensburg Blue agates in the Teanaway area. They owned a small ranch nearby and spent summers there. Did you happen to come across Kris of Old Guy Adventures? He was in the area with a group in early June. That guy knows the area around Liberty like the back of his hand.
Oh thats so cool! Do you happen to have anything from their collect? I wish I could of met up with Kris but the timing didn't work out.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I think I have a couple of pieces. I got a few nice specimens from their rock collection but the majority of it went to one of my brothers, along with the lapidary equipment. My son wears an Ellensburg Blue agate in a ring my grandfather made, and the remainder of the stone is somewhere unknown.
I had half an eye on that area while I was out but headed back to Prineville. Don't know how well those would have fared in the mail.

Some of that leftover stuff you went through was likely some of my leftover material. I was up there around the time you went up there. I'm curious though, what did you use to clean it all up? They turned out real nice!
I just used Iron Out for the clean up of it.

I’m pretty new to rockhounding. I’ve been googling for hours and cannot find any info on what I’m looking for. So, question, in WA State, in the mountains. How do I identify if an area has geodes?? I would like to be able to hike around and look at the landscape and be able to tell if an outcrop of rocks will have geodes or not. Around here I feel like everything is such “secret”. I don’t want to steal peoples areas, I just want to know what to look for to be able to tell if geodes are in the area I’m in or not. Your videos are awesome! Thank you.
Pretty much all of the location of geodes have been found, mapped, and are well known. There isn't exactly an area for them in the way that you're thinking of it.

How difficult is the hike up there? Can you park somewhere near the trail head or something?
The hike is rather steep.

There are not locked gates but you do need to get out and hike to the location.

Hmmm I think you are talking about the black mass that is off to my left in the video. I think that's a burnt stump but its hard to tell I guess.

Not joking...be careful if your surroundings in the woods, so you don't become a missing person encountering a Bigfoot.
It might be a mountain full of crystals but it's definetly not Crystal Mountain, that's over hut Greenwater, east of Enumclaw.
Its almost like more than one place can have the same generic name. Did you know Washington has multiple Red Top Mountains and countless Swift Creeks.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding I was aware of the red top mountain, but didn't know there was multiple crystal mountains or swift creeks.
I do know of about a half dozen lost lakes in the state though. My apologies I thought you were just calling it crystal mountain and didn't realize that was actually the name of it, and im fairly familiar with that area of the state.

Why do you think that? What is the exact source that is telling you that?
I saw your other reply which I think you deleted or it got removed by TH-cam for the links being downloads but you are off on your assessment here. I would recommend you use a service like GaiaGPS, OnX or county data for what is public or private land and not google earth which pretty much will tell you nothing of any real value.

I didn't delete my post. I am a professional land surveyor with 48 years of experience. I have been using google earth for many years and I am fully aware of it's limitations. I have had experience with the BLM data and in that remote area it of course may be wrong. In urban areas the BLM data is usually nearly exact! I did see tree cutting lines to the west of your waypoint that supports my assertion. My only point was for you to use caution, you may have been trespassing. I would be interested in a screen shot of your source. I was just looking today at OnX Offroad. I assumed they would use the BLM data but maybe not huh?
@@patfox3988 Regardless of how long you do something you can be wrong and in this situation the land shown in this video is not private, the land here is on the line between DNR and Wenatchee National Forest. That's what GaiaGPS shows, and even if you want to go old school and look at a paper map and do the range and township thing its WNF. SW¼ of the SE¼ of Section 13 Township 20 North, Range 17 East Willamette Principal Meridian Washington.

You are correct. It has been state land since 1904 so I don't understand why the BLM data is wrong. I need to get other mapping software. I really appreciate the time you spent educating me and I'm sorry for that!
