WOOOAH! did you get a new artist for this background? It seems like a completely different style than usual, and each tends to have a very unique get up, YIRBEL LIVES.
Had a Kenku bard who grew up alone, never knowing his real parents and bullied as a Kenku in a fairly bigoted human town before being taken in by an elderly man who ran the general store and spent his weekends just fishing and occasionally taking time to play an accordion at the creek that ran by his home. He took my Kenku in and had him do things around the house he couldn't do anymore such as chopping wood, moving heavy furniture and even a bit of cooking. After noticing how fascinated my kenku was with the accordion one day, he started teaching him a few tunes. One day though, while the owner was in town tending to his shop, the local bullies who had bullied my kenku several times in the past, noticed him by the creek on their way home after waking up from their usual hang over in the jail of the town having damaged some property in their drunken stooper. Seeing an opportunity, they started messing with him, shoving him around and playing keep away with the accordion. The old man had returned shortly after, needing to pick up a package that had been mistakenly delivered to his home instead of the shop for a customer when he noticed what was going on. He stepped in to try and break it up, but in their drunken commotion, one of the bullies shoved the Oldman hard enough into a tree that he hit his head and instantly died. Somewhat sobered up from it now, the bullies ran off, not wanting to be caught for murder. My kenku, heartbroken at what had just happened, mourned the old man's death and buried him in his favorite fishing spot before picking up the accordion, gathering some food and other supplies, and made it his life's goal to track them down and make them pay while playing the accordion on taverns and inns all across his travels the tunes he learned.
Bravo oh, what a well-conceived, well- written and well-told story that was thank you. Considering the direction in which several of your previous stories I'd come from which led me only to depression, I got to say this one was much better & i only hope to see more thank. you
I always wonder how these stories play out in terms of gameplay at the table. Like how it worked with the other players and the rolls involved and all that. But sometimes it’s nice just sit back and enjoy the story
my DM once came up with the awesome idea of a trans-generational campaign where instead of players playing a descendent of their character they play the descendent of the character of another player at the table, resulting in this weird thing where we got to know each other's characters on a more personal level and grow more attached whilst being invested in playing essentially their kids. It somehow came together fantastically giving perspective to the world. we managed to have seven generations. the cousins and siblings and inter heritage marriages were complex. eventually, it became kin to a clan or large royal household in the end. Yes, we essentially went from party of adventurers to imperial inheritance.
Anyone else getting vibes of Arthas from Warcraft? Not that I'm complaining, but everything from a reskinned Frostmourne to his rise as a death knight is all here.
You know, this reminds me of the ending of the finnish folktale of kullervo, both had a sword that seeked blood and both ended inpaling themsaves on them, then again kullervo’s sword didnt just accept what would happen it sang about its aprroval
I'm finally getting into a campaign for the first time, although it's an ongoing one that I'll be joining at 4th level. I convinced the DM to let me play a Hexblood from Van Richten's Guide, despite him having never read the book prior to our meeting. He's running a homebrew game where the various races represent real world cultures (humans/Celts, tiefling/Greek, etc.), so my inclusion will throw things for a loop. The plan is to have my character be tied into a hag coven the players heard of earlier, but I'll be attempting to pass myself off as a tiefling, since most folk either don't know what a Hecblood is, or wouldn't take kindly to it if they knew.
That sounds like an interesting idea. I’m sure you’ll have a blast. I’ve started a campaign that I never finished with a group at 3rd level and ended up having an absolute blast while it lasted. Hope your campaign lasts a long time and you guys have dope adventures 😎!
So I was playing a Firbolg Paladin of Pelor. He was not originally a Paladin. You see... a long time ago (in our campaign in college) some heroes fought a dark god and defeated him. When he died, his celestial body came crashing down and fell on the edge of the continent to the east. It landed on the edge of my Firbolg's forest. He was on a mountain at the time, and when the god crashed, his form shattered into these dark shards. One of them hit my Firbolg. Out of fear, he ran back to his family, but as he did, the forest began dying all around him. When he came in contact with his family, they began to wilt and die as well. My firbolg realized he had carried the corruption back to his family and caused their death. Everyone. Even the forest itself. So he just laid down and waited to die. Three days later, a Cleric of Pelor and his entourage found him and brought him back to the temple where he began to recover thanks to some powerful spells. Eventually, he began to overcome his guilt. He even fell in love with the Cleric, and the two were married. But sadly, his husband, the Cleric, was human and thus short lived. So after only 60 years, the Cleric passed away and once again my Paladin was left alone. He always struggled with his faith, never knowing quite why he had been chosen, but he did his best to collect the shards and try to find a way to destroy them. That was the original objective of the current campaign. But alas, just as my Firbolg was learning to love and live yet again (He was in love with a Cleric Priestess of Elistraee) the Dark God has reared its evil head yet again, and in a fight, my poor Firbolg was sacrificed to the Dark God. So even after all that, he is just... gone. And the rest of the party is now trying to find a way to remove the corruption that has taken over his body so that they can properly resurrect him. Even if he comes back, it's going to be a long road to recovery. One tragedy after another has really begun to wear on this guy.
Melzard sounds like about 50% of what I hate in a person to be honest. This tale is tragic for me in the sense that such a position as emperor was given to such a fool. Truly, heritage of power was a plight on the old times.
The difference between this character and modern Western elites is that the Western elites wouldn't have felt bad at all. In the Middle East, the beautiful ambassador would have been a twelve year old child. In the East, everyone would wonder what the hell the wife's deal is.
@@LetholdusKaspyr No. Because an empire built by a good man was brought down by his foolish son. I know he also had a heritage thing going on, but he had to work to earn the support and respect of those who gave him power and save the empire.

Nice of the DM to pull all of that together- a character death that's not only keeping in character but is also not permanent either- how clever.
My death was not exactly planned by the DM, but he ran with it and used the opportunity brillantly :-)
