Not a big KB fan, but happy for his better finish. Would love to see him win one. I think his biggest problem this year has been RCR. He is a primo racer.
NASCAR and NBC know there are no lights. NASCAR has to agree with the start time. It's so stupid to have the race start that late especially with a track without lights.
There were protesters surrounding the track and allegedly on the track itself. This is why you go to a dedicated speedway instead of racing in the middle of a city. Then you can race whenever you want, and everyone can see the whole racetrack.

Has NBC even gone one race this season without pulling up the radar at some point? I'm serious! They may as well have it on the broadcast 24/7 at this rate even when the sky looks absolutely perfect, just in case...

Shoutout to the #31 team. Despite Hemric being pretty underwhelming, his crew chief has put him in a respectful finishing position multiple times this year solely based on strategy.
That guy deserves a promotion to a better organization because he's making lemonade out of his lemons

Chaotic but glad for bowman
Bowman was much more deserving of the win than most people are giving him credit for. Dude had the second best average running position throughout the race, only beat by Ty Gibbs, and never dropped below 14th in the race (best “lowest position” of any driver in the field). Definite top 5 car but people will see how quickly Reddick caught up to him and not pay attention to the absolutely MASSIVE difference in tires the likes of which we’ve probably never seen on a road course before in cup.
In the threat of rain they should start out on rain tires. And run em till the course is dry. This switching from slicks to weather tires is b.s. let the team decide when to run em
@@PitbullN.C. the teams had the option to start on either tire at the beginning and was even given a free pace lap to decide.

Major shoutouts to McDowell on this day, although I'd wager he was being a debbie downer in the post-race interviews, call it a hunch
Starts off terrible, pits first fearing the wet conditions to lose all track position (and I think he went a lap down at one point), all while his teammate Gilliland was hanging around in the Top 5. But after that 2nd stage ended it became a damn rocket ship, going from 26th to 5th with the race being shortened would be crazy at a Superspeedway, but he did it at this pretty tightly packed street course
So many people have called for SVG to get more experience on ovals in Xfinity before transitioning to Cup.. Yet he's still able to pass guys and consistently finish in the top 15 on ovals without crashing and taking people out.. Unlike these so called best drivers in the world who can't keep their car underneath them when the roads wet. Now ya'll gonna cry.. 'they have no experience in the wet" Well now you know what SVG is up against and the stella job he's doing with no experience on ovals, but he's doing a much better job than these top tier cup guys by not crashing, not taking others out and finishing races.
SVG's been about as expected on ovals but let's not act like he hasn't made mistakes either. Wasn't that long ago Iowa gave him fits. So just take a chill pill
Not sure if your American or not but I'd encourage you to check out different types of short track racing, most top level talent is priced out of NASCAR now a days.
Dirt sprint cars and late models have a really high level of talent at the national scene, as do pavement modifieds. Flo racing and World of Outlaws yt pages are a good place to start
Check out professional dirt track racing like the other guy said. NASCAR has been losing out on most top drivers for awhile now
I agree. He sits around learning for 2 stages then starts letting it all hang out in third stage and passes a bunch of cars.

@@BlACKCOFFEE2988 yeah but then there's Richmond where he crashes out kyle or talladega where he takes out multiple Toyota teammates because he doesn't know how to bump. It's not just "wow Bubba unlucky." It's a combination of Bubba wrecking people AND him being in the middle of the pack where accidents happen.
If he was better in the car, he'd be where Reddick is in the front. However, his race is what is landing him in that 23 car instead of a better driver. So instead of them grabbing a driver that can take that top 10 car to a top 10 position, they have a top 30 driver taking a top 10 car to a 17th position.
Or he has been taken out in retaliation. Or should have been!!!
The Street Course is like watching the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium were those drivers Drive like they never been in a car before. Chase Briscoe and Josh Berry are good drivers but they should've just parked their cars for how many times they drove into the tire barrier.

At this point. Do a Saturday race in the event of weather conditions. I'd rather see that and maybe lose a few viewers than chance it for the 3rd year in a row.
They should give this race a third year but they have to go into it knowing the track doesn't have lights, it's in the midwest in Summer and next to a huge lake. No matter what the weather reports say always go into this race suspecting rain and have NBC move things around so this can start a little earlier.

Funny how you give Bowman a lot of flack for spinning Bubba by coming in too hot in the rain while his whippers weren’t working in the rain. But Briscoe takes out SVG the race favorite, by coming in too hot in the rain while attempting a divebomb, and you basically dismiss it as a racing deal.
One had alot more control of their situation than the other.

Eric, your responses to the criticisms of this event were masterfully said. Thank you for not condemning the folks who might not like it but rather trying to get them to see this for what it is, a once a year music, racing, & entertainment event. I love the street race personally. Wouldn’t want to see more than one on the schedule but really hope to see it continue. Just, for the love of God, can we get a little cooperation from the weather?!? Please?!
I talked to quite a few people who had this as their first race ever (some came because of the Netflix show) from all over and they're all excited to go to more races, now.
And congrats to Joey Hand.
I may be biased as an IMSA fan but i was impressed by Joey Hand's performance. To go from driving the aero reliant Mustang GT3 to the high grunt, low aero NASCAR Cup car mustang and still be competing for the win is impressive.
Todd Gilliland hasn't finished worse than 17th since Dover back in April, I'm not counting him out of possibly sneaking a win before Darlington, but it would have to play out just right. He's quietly figured out how to operate in that 38 machine I feel like.
Eric, I was at that race and let me you, emotions were wild everywhere. In spite of all the rain, wrecks, the timed-race rule, and the temptations of wanting to leave early, we never gave up on the race. I wouldn’t blame NASCAR for anything major because they can’t predict the weather for a certain 9-10 months before it happens so they did the best with what they had.
You can't predict the weather but you can predict that evening summer showers are almost a guarantee. If they started at 1, they would have gotten the full race in.
Bubba had every right to be mad, but the way he got back at him was disgusting and unsportsmanlike. He should get punishment for it

I'm impressed by Bowman's patience. I would've pulled a Kenseth/Keselowski on Bubba. Even if the contact was Bowman's fault, walling him on the cool down lap was not a good look. And it's even less of a good look when you remember Bubba threw powerade on a dehydrated and heatexhausted Bowman at the roval years ago.

Bowman had intentionally dumped Bubba when Bubba threw his drink into his face.
NASCAR needs to either do quick yellows, unlike what they did with a simple Corey lajoie spin or just throw the red flag due to impending rain. That long yellow prior to the red flag was ridiculous.
I’ve been to many races in person over the years but this race was wild in person. There was at least three times they said drivers to your cars and it then poured. It was awful. Plus the best three cars Larson, SVG, and Bell wrecked. Wild and sort of unfortunate day but congrats to Bowman. It was just disheartening to see so many cold and wet fans there.

If someone wins a race in the strangest way, it’s almost always Alex Bowman.
Bowman doesn’t win that race if Bell doesn’t get wrecked, Gibbs doesn’t get knocked out, Reddick doesn’t take himself, SVG doesn’t get whacked, Larson doesn’t slide, or the race goes 1 more lap.
That said, Bowman puts himself in positions to win these wacky races. He’s consistent

Have been to both Chicago Street Races so far, was a fun weekend till the rain! Some of my notes:
-There was an excessive amount of caution laps between end of Stage 1 (which was ended early due to a caution) and Stage 2
-Ricky Stenhouse now has a Top 7 finish in 3 of the last 4 races.
-Chase Elliott Top 20 streak is over (finished 21st)
- Stage 1 and 2 bonus points will go to waste (SVG, Hand)
-SVG has now finished 1st or last in all of his Chicago Street starts across all series.
-Can we talk about how badly the drivers at the top of the standings have done in recent weeks? It's like none of them want the points lead and the 15 bonus points that come with it.
-The heavy rumor is F1 will come to Chicago in 2026, so 2025 will likely be the last time Chicago Street goes NASCAR.

I think Bell had the car to beat in Chicago. Bowman kinda lucked into that win on strategy, and that’s fine. I like to see a good strategy race and how that can shake up the field.
SVG was on course to win that race again before Briscoe crashed him out. Gutted for SVG.

@@isaiahmarker407no, he just seemed to overestimate his grip or ability or both and SVG was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He would never have been there if his out crew didn’t lose him 3 spots on pit road just before that restart.
@@mintoxace5571Briscoe was breaking at his normal marks along with the other cars. He went through standing waters and hydroplaned. Nothing much you can do at that point but hope for the best.

@@FullSendsOnly56 Larson didn’t take anyone out but himself so it’s a bit different, especially when it’s the pre race favourite and Steve 1 winner that Briscoe wrecked.
I think Bubba should at least be fined. The Hamlin/Bowman incident was a battle for the win in the closing laps. Wallace/Bowman happened early on in the race, and during the red flag, Bowman took responsibility and tried to apologize, but Bubba didn’t care. He held on to it and chose to ram his car into Bowman and force him into the wall. I don’t view the incidents as the same, but I also don’t this it deserves a points penalty or suspension. Was it justified? Maybe. What is properly executed? Not in the least.
Its not just the lights on a street course.its down town Chicago they have to have everything cleaned up for traffic monday morning.i suggest running the cup race Saturday.that way if it does rain Saturday you have sunday.what would they have done if it were heavy rain all day? A 25 lap race winner?or since the new car is so good on mile an halfs go back to chicago land oval.

All that showed was how low the level of talent in NASCAR cup has fallen. The dumb fanbase will probably whine and demand more oval races in the south but the whole world just saw that.

What is annoying is after years of arguing that NASCAR drivers are just as talented as F1 or Indy the current crop of NASCAR drivers are determined to show they really do only know how to turn left. After attending in person this year, the spectacle put on by NASCAR (festivities wise) blows the traditional races out of the water. The viewing experience (as a “die hard” fan) is not as good as traditional races BUT having access to all cameras on the track on your phone balances that out. NEED to see this again next year and will be attending
The ticket prices are also more than any other race, and you can't even see the whole track. You're paying more money to watch the race on a screen anyways.

Why they decide to start the race that late, knowing damn well they don't intend to potentially run the race the next day is my only complaint. That would have also avoided weather today, but I get it, we can't control that. Although we can predict it to an extent...you know with....technology. still a good race, but whoever is the official decision maker for the start time, (NASCAR, NBC, or Chicago themselves) needs to get their stuff straight.

At this point if a track doesn’t have lights should they really host a cup race? It’s 2024 and the ability to do it is there, even F1 has shown that temp lights can come in for a street race.

I liked how strategy has played a huge role for winners in the last two races. Shows it’s still a team sport and I like how it’s all factors tested while racing
The last two weeks didn't really have anything to do with strategy. 1st or 20th isn't really a choice. Last week, running out of gas or not running out of gas isn't really a choice.

@TannerKraft-uz9fc I was actually a fan of supercars racing (I’m Australian) and only started getting into nascar recently. Definitely a little sloppy but it’s nothing out of the ordinary for when the weather doesn’t cooperate

He shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells just because he’s black. What he did happens during and after races all the time. He barely bumped him going like 35 MPH lol. Even Bowman said he barely touched him in his post race interview.

I personally feel like they need to bring the July race back to Road America. Because this year and last year, it rained, there were track issues, traffic problems throughout the track and the race had to be shortened 2 years in a row. In the 2 years they raced at Road America, none of that happened, so I think they should either bring it back to Road America or have a street race in another city, like maybe Long Beach California for example.
The Wallace wreck was an absolute racing accident. Bowman apologized twice he doesn’t race like that. He apologized a second time after Wallace side swiping him that’s sportsmanship. Wallace on the other hand is noting but a baby. He needs to go away at this point.
Bowman does race like that though. He intentionally spun Bubba out at the Roval in 2019. Bowman shouldn’t have been messing with his wipers going into a turn
Everyone can have an opinion. I stayed mine and I just heard bubba was fined and that makes me less upset because that was not good slamming into his car on a cool down lap when u might not have ur restraints on and window net down. Very unsafe I don’t care who you are.

My first comment... I enjoy your show. The rain was a bummer but I have enjoyed these Chicago races more than any other the past two year. The long straights and tight corners create a lot of passing zones. And the rain had created organic drama that, for me, makes the race more exciting. I was skeptical of a street race when it was announced but now love it. I think it has provided great racing (because of the track configuration).
I’ll take last week’s 5OT finish over this week’s shortened race because of weather and darkness. There is a place for street races but not during the summer with such a high chance of rain showers throughout the day

If you don’t fine and take points away, then just throw the rule book away. Bowman could have been seriously hurt from the sever hit under yellow. It was so hard it threw the 48 into the outside wall where his hand could have been. If that’s ok, anything is ok.
Here's the thing about bubba. He's not doing himself any favors by lashing out like this. I understand his frustration but door slamming someone after the race way after the checkered flag is not okay. Idk why Eric basically defended him. Was his frustrations understandable yes but you cannot tell me it's justified to do it after the race was over. Take your frustrations out on pit road
It doesn’t make sense to me why they schedule races in the late afternoon when we all know it’s likely to rain. The next rain delay, I’m not waiting around for it.

I liked the xfinity race. It was good hard racing and very exciting watching SVG put on a clinic. But the cup race just not the same effect. I wish they would have postponed it and ran it at 11am on Monday might have been a better race. I’ve seen all I need to with wet weather tires it just doesn’t work on stock cars

no race on monday because those streets have to be open to get workers to work , business open .
I live in Denver and in the past ,we had the IRL's Denver Grand Prix a street race , and the contract stated that all streets had to be open to general traffic by 1:30 am on Monday the day after the the day of the schedule date of the race.

Aweful race, that could of been an awesome race. Love the idea, but they need to move this to Nashville, Austin, Miami, Longbeach, etc... that can hold this race better, and have past experiences of these type of events.
Truex didn’t get fined for hitting Denny on the cool down lap earlier this year. Denny didn’t fined for hitting Bowman at Martinsville a few years ago on the cool down lap. Bowman himself said Bubba shouldn’t get fined. Bubba probably won’t get fined.
At some point, the precedence needs to be changed.

Now that the 'timed race' thing is on the table, I'd like to see that used for the rare occasions where darkness-shortened distance comes into play instead of picking an arbitrary lap to end on, it makes more sense since it's easier to predict when it's going to be too dark to race than how many laps they can run before that time comes.
Also, good for Bowman winning after finishing last in the same race last year, not sure when the last time that's happened but way to bounce back

Bowman's last win was before Russell Wilson was traded to the Broncos and weeks before the Will Smith slap at the Oscars. I'm glad the other activities still happened this year unlike last year. I still like the street course because of how unique it is I was just the weather cooperated more lol
