One popular form of dark arts come in the form of the inferi. Zombie like creatures, made by killing people it seems. Transfiguration wizards basically become necromancers, making inferi to summon on command. We only saw the inferi in the movie very little, and the only time they mattered they were left to guard the horcrux, so they were just left there.
Video idea for you to do: What additional effects do spells have that are not seen in the movies? For instance, what else can the patronus charm do besides ward off dementors?
It’s interesting to learn the history of the Dark Arts, or at least the records that are still around. As a topic, it is equally fascinating, and yet also terrifying.
Since I’m so early: Maybe make a video about origins of spells and how does it work? Like in book 4 who came up with the potion which resurrected a hocrox body and why does it work?
Its nice to see someone use there brain about dark magic. Nothing is black and white. In my opinion dark magic is the same as guns. They themselves are not evil. Its how they are used. Its all about intent.
Idk what the rocks on the window sill were for, but counting them, it’s the same number of Horcruxes Voldemort made. (6:26-:34) When you sneeze just before someone takes your picture…
Yeah I dunno if Voldemort’s use of dark magic can be considered mundane, he was an expert in everything and maybe there wasn’t a whole lot of shock and awe like creating dementors, but he was pretty creative with how he used it
100 BCE? I thought dark magic goes way back then this. As for the unforgivable curses, it seems to me that the Impirius is possible to forgive, the curse doesn't seem that evil. I mean sure, it's not a positive thing to control someone, but it good be beneficial in combat when fighting DE and dark creatures. Which brings me to agree with you, not only dark magic practitioners use dark magic, good guys can use it too.
A lot of spells are technically classified as "dark" magic. Flipendo, for example, which is a simple jinx that pushes the target back, is a dark jinx. As is Oppugno, which Hermione used to send those birds at Ron in the 4th film. Dark is not inherently evil, and Light is not inherently good.
@@jshort1691 Yeah exactly. I meant for the more hardcore dark, but you are absolutely correct with these examples. And also during a war, if I am a good guy who is fighting DE, and I am using Avada Kedavra no one will claim anything against me, because this is war and war is extreme.
@@eranshachar9954 I always thought the Killing Curse being outlawed in such a way was incredibly naive. You could kill someone with plenty of spells, including a simple levitation charm. The new HP game seems to include some darker spells if the trailer is to be believed, and I'm curious to see how that pans out.

Once I get to the quest line in Hogwarts Legacy I am for sure learning all of the Unforgivable Curses! I’m not a dark wizard though. In my mind using Avada Kedavra is just a way to kill an enemy quickly without prolonging their suffering. Cruciatus on the other hand… I’m not sure my conscience would let me use that one. It just seems cruel.
I've always wanted to know the details behind why the unforgivable curses were given the title of unforgivable. We all know what they do and how that influences this. But I want to know what with or wizard gave them this label. Was there a witch or wizard who was using one of them to the point where the ministery didn't have a choice but to send them to azkaban and label the curse as unforgivable? These weird details would make a great video
I would guess, at the time that these curses were invented/discovered, it was during a superstitious and bewildered age when civil law and government policy were yet to be established. As these structures would grow to influence many witches and wizards of a previous age, so would restrictions on certain practices of magic that would inevitably result in retaliation by dark witches and wizards. Violence would break out and both sides would be justified to use these curses in whatever way they see fit; at least until one side loses.
@lowyind pullen I think you're answering your own questions there! And it's not always common sense because not every human being thinks on the same level as others. People are raised in a variety of environments with different conditions, each molding the individual's thinking in a unique way. What one person considers barbaric and disdainful can be just an average Tuesday to somebody else. As forbidden as the Unforgivable Curses are, what they are capable of can still be enticing to a single wizard who is ambitious or cruel enough to want to use them.
@WhyThoBro there are other spells that kill people and are not unforgivable. i think the killing curse is unforgivable becouse it can not be blocked with a spell, its really unfair in a fight. The only way is to dodge it, apparate before the spell its you, or spell objects to take the hit for you. In a fight, in a split second, most wizards and witch will not be able to do any of this things
how can the Ministery of magic, know if a witch or wizard used any of the 3 unforgivable curses? do they put a traceable spell on the 3 curses, so they can find who used them and the location?
I heard a theory from SuperCarlinBrothers that the unforgivable curses were actually created by the Peverall brothers. Avada Kedavra was a spell that could instantly win any duel, so obviously it goes in line with the Elder Wand. Crucio gives you such unbearable pain that you want to kill yourself, thus fitting perfectly with the resurrection stone, and the Imperius curse is a bit weirder, but the theory goes that Ignotus used it to keep himself hidden, and gently steer people away from himself (which also explains why the Imperius curse is the only one that doesn't actually harm the person on the other end)
but Avadakadsvra can not be blocked with a spell, and another spell that kills people can in fact be blocked with a defense charm. You need to be realy prepared and talented to dodge or apperate away from a killing curse.

A lot of these spells are right to be considered dark magic. The killing and torture curse are both self explanatory as to why they are considered dark. The creation of horcruxes requires the use of the killing curse as part of the process and corrupts one's soul. The imperius curse takes away someone's ability to control their actions.
I’d have to say Defense Against the Dark Arts is probably my favorite subject next to Potions. Transfiguration seemed cool too but I just always liked the Dark Arts more. I’m a proud Ravenclaw so dark magic wouldn’t dare come from my wand.

"The desire to be cruel". I struggle with this. People seem to be under the consensus that dementors are evil. I don't agree. They are beeing that feed on souls. Souls are a resource to them. Like food. Is it really evil to be hungry???
the 3 unforgivable curses will get an automatic punishment of a life time sentence in Azkaban.....but there is far more dark, evil magic that is also unforgivable.....this that are stil considered a crime to use....
The naming of the three as the "Unforgivable Curses" was simply a political decision made by the British Ministry of Magic. Nothing more complicated than that. They don't seem to be illegal in the area taught by Durmstrang as they are taught at the school but it doesn't seem clear about their status in other regions.
The Imperius Curse, the last of the three, may seem more innocent, but it isn’t. If a dark wizard used this spell on you, then you’d be forced to do whatever they bid, and by whatever, I mean WHATEVER😏😏😏
Dementors aren't "natural" magical creatures, they were created by the dark wizard that built Azkaban 5 or 6 hundred years ago. he built Azkaban as his own dark fortress and after he died the obscuration spell put on the building was lifted and the fortress was discovered. when the magical authorities inspected the building the Dementors shocked them, they had never seen anything like them before. they were forced to leave the fortress standing because they had no idea how to capture or kill a Dementor. Azkaban was the Dementors home, it always has been. a short time later it was turned into a magical prison for the worst of the worst and the rest is history.

I love the effort you put into these videos. I sound like a boss when I talk to people about Harry Potter and I get all my info from this channel.💪

Yeah that definitely doesn't make you a "boss" lmao

The Yin and the Yang!! The Alpha and the Omega! Light Magic and Dark Magic!!! It's all about having balance!
2:08 What about spells that can be used to kill?
If I Incendio you and set you on fire to kill you, is that Dark Magic? Although Incendio can also be used to light torches.
Like if I Levioso you into the air and them smash you down to the ground with Descendo to breaking all your bones, is that Dark magic?
I can freeze you to death with Glacius, Cut off your head with Defindo, Blow you apart with Bambarda, Crush you into a wall with Depulso, etc.
There are a ton of spells that when used can kill.
Indeed, there are ways to use magic, intent. One can crucio someone bad for information, kill in self defense, it's all about what one uses a thing for.

You should do a video talking about how Tom Riddle was pretty rudimentary in his magic, people think he was all that but him being basic would make an interesting video. How the big bad was in the magic sense “ just really good at math” but bc of his lack of love he never experimented to make anything lost lasting. Tom would never had that thing that makes you human…………..
Idk what I mean but one line in there caught my attention, something about being basic and the drink of despair
The expel entrail curse encantation is probably "expellere visceribus".
Video idea for you to do:
What additional effects do spells have that are not seen in the movies? For instance, what else can the patronus charm do besides ward off dementors?
It’s interesting to learn the history of the Dark Arts, or at least the records that are still around. As a topic, it is equally fascinating, and yet also terrifying.
Your knowledge of the subject is just amazing
Since I’m so early: Maybe make a video about origins of spells and how does it work? Like in book 4 who came up with the potion which resurrected a hocrox body and why does it work?
I’ve always loved the mystique behind the dark arts.
Love these little episodes about HP!♡☆
In just 7 minutes this video got almost 200 views! Great job HPT

I just subscribed. It's a shame for you cause I always listen to your videos otw home from work. Great work dude
Thanks for the sub!
The Entrail-Expelling Curse could be considered a medical curse in some cases. Otherwise why was it mentioned in St. Mungo's Hospital?
Yeah I dunno if Voldemort’s use of dark magic can be considered mundane, he was an expert in everything and maybe there wasn’t a whole lot of shock and awe like creating dementors, but he was pretty creative with how he used it
Yeah, splitting ones soul seven times is way of the charts even for a dark wizard
Why then could the KC not be used to grant mercy to a terminal patient? Or the Imperius to prevent someone from harming themselves or others? The new HP game seems to include some darker spells if the trailer is to be believed, and I'm curious to see how that pans out.
@@jshort1691 Totally agree with you, good points.
@@jshort1691 i think the killing curse is unforgivable becouse it can not be blocked with a spell, its really unfair in a fight. The only way is to dodge it, apparate before the spell its you, or spell objects to take the hit for you. In a fight, in a split second, most wizards and witch will not be able to do any of this things
I think it's ok to learn dark arts as long as you don't besmirch your own soul using them. It's ok to defend yourself but not to start a fight .
Ture
Once I get to the quest line in Hogwarts Legacy I am for sure learning all of the Unforgivable Curses! I’m not a dark wizard though. In my mind using Avada Kedavra is just a way to kill an enemy quickly without prolonging their suffering. Cruciatus on the other hand… I’m not sure my conscience would let me use that one. It just seems cruel.
Love potions should be considered dark magic
Glad I'm not the only one who believes this.
Love the vid bro
Good to see you using BCE (Before Christian Era)
what about fiend fire? are elemental spells bad or good?
Keep it up I have Learned so much about harry potter
Magic is not good or bad, it's just power that people use.
how can the Ministery of magic, know if a witch or wizard used any of the 3 unforgivable curses? do they put a traceable spell on the 3 curses, so they can find who used them and the location?
I’ve wondered this too
they can check the wands and blame the wand owner. It actualy resulted in some wrongful convictions
Isnt that (9:45) from Supernatural?
I’d love to see a collab video with you, Harry Potter folklore, movie flame, and super carlín brothers
This was very interesting
Makes total sense why Voldemort had cursed the defence against the dark arts job. Also I presume the curse broke when he died.
Curses endure past the lifetime of the caster.
@@WatchThatFirstStep no it broke. There was nothing one dada teacher after
love ya vids bro plz keep it up i wish jk makes new books bc i never want hp to die
But also the entrails expelling curse can be used to heal as well, so that’s why I thunk it’s not unforgivable
what is that spell that voldemort uses to break all the windows in the ministrey in the 5th film

Avadakadsvra is kind a bummer for me, you can just explode someone with another more simple spell
but Avadakadsvra can not be blocked with a spell, and another spell that kills people can in fact be blocked with a defense charm. You need to be realy prepared and talented to dodge or apperate away from a killing curse.
Anything on the panseer scene??? Love your channel
Not me hearing your contempt in repeating the same information on the use of the 3 unforgivable curses 7:02
How do you know these? What books do you read that have these?
Most awesome vid!!!!!!!!
I have a question.
Can more than one wand be loyal to you at any one time? Can you own more than one and having them all commit to you?
Yes. At the end of book 7, Harry has 3 wands all loyal to him: the elder wand, Draco's wand and his phoenix wand.
@@jim.the.editor his phoenix wand breaks in godric’s hollow during their escape from nagini. Hermione was unable to repair it which is why Harry uses her wand up until he disarms Draco.
@@OG_Archer harry fixed his phoenix wand in the end with the elder wand, and returned the elder wand to dumbledore grave. So the comment is true, in the end, harry has 3 wands loyal to him
Dementors were created by a darkwizard who lived in a tower which would later become askaban, they were made wardens there and allowed to feed on prisoners because they couldn’t be destroyed so they had to do something with them
If I remember right this isn’t entirely confirmed. They could’ve already been there or drawn there.
Is there a “light magic”?
Dumbledore dabbled in dark magic. The super strong characters seem to check it out
What is that creature at 9:41?
A banshee!
I’m a proud Ravenclaw so dark magic wouldn’t dare come from my wand.
i slipped off a tree and died. I reincarnated as a Russian tank
So what fred and george sells in their shop coule come under dark arts? Particularly hexes?
Did Hagrid use a hex in the very beginning to make Dudley grow a pigtail??
transfiguration I believe.
HPT can you make a video about Harry Potter foods
Descendo is the darkest spell of all. You leave your enemies helpless and dying in a crumpled heap of broken bone and torn flesh. Avada is basically a mercy in comparison.
I've been using the unforgivables on goblins and others for a while
All I know about the Dark Arts is that they are very cool!
vid idea...what would the wizarding world look like in 2022?
The same. Large parts of the culture is anachronistic.
the same but with more muggle borns. There would be a bit more muggle clothing around, but thats it. Cellphones and other eletronic stuff will not work in the wizerding world, unless its enchanted by the ministry. No, muggle borns cellphones and laptops dont work in hogwarts
No mention of inferi? Guessing it was a charm of some sort.
Are you a full time youtuber ?
You bet
i fell that you can not fully understand defence against the dark arts without knowing and understanding the dark arts. they are different sides of the same coin
"The desire to be cruel". I struggle with this. People seem to be under the consensus that dementors are evil. I don't agree. They are beeing that feed on souls. Souls are a resource to them. Like food. Is it really evil to be hungry???
I thought dementors where also part of experimental dark magic, by the first wizard who found Azkaban before it was used as a prison, not natural.?
the 3 unforgivable curses will get an automatic punishment of a life time sentence in Azkaban.....but there is far more dark, evil magic that is also unforgivable.....this that are stil considered a crime to use....
Why is it that the unforgivable curses only get you a place in "AZKABAN" and not in any other prison?
Are they not unforgivable in other areas?
The naming of the three as the "Unforgivable Curses" was simply a political decision made by the British Ministry of Magic. Nothing more complicated than that. They don't seem to be illegal in the area taught by Durmstrang as they are taught at the school but it doesn't seem clear about their status in other regions.
I don't mind learning Dark Arts , but I will only dark Magic if, I was at Wizarding war
Dark magic sounds like fun lol
I invented my own curse! It summons a mushroom cloud in shape of a middle finger! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💥💥💥💥💥
Not gonna say it. Funny how powerful dirty words are! 🤣
The Imperius Curse, the last of the three, may seem more innocent, but it isn’t. If a dark wizard used this spell on you, then you’d be forced to do whatever they bid, and by whatever, I mean WHATEVER😏😏😏
If u only knew the power of the dark arts
Of course we can always discuss why we call things 'light' and 'dark'. That's movie logic, not canonical!!
I was today years old when I found out about the Entrail Expelling Curse... What the fuck is even that? Could you imagine Voldemort using this instead of the Killing Curse?
yo wtf thats me at 6:28 LOL thanks hp theory
Really? I got it from a copyright free image site!
@@HarryPotterTheory yeah haha i posted it there so no worries kinda cool to see tbh
Fun fact that real dark magic as described by real witchsis described as someone who acts on emotions and will
Nicholas Flammel was a real person and he supposedly was an amazing alchemist who really did create and possess the Sorcerers Stone.
J.K Rowling really did her research on the history of magic, Dark and Light magic. I truly believe that she got some inspiration from the Christian Bible as well. She might be a witch herself. I am not quite sure about that but, I am a practicing Eclectic Witch and I have done a lot of research over my years of practicing on this path. It seems to me that Rowling did a great job of mixing whimsy and mystery into her writing in the Harry Potter Books. Grifindor

I'm just putting it out there, if they wanted to discourage people from using the dark arts then theu shouldn't have called them the dark arts, they should have called it something less cool like "nonce magic" because a lot of people wanna be dark wizards, no one wants to be a nonce magician.
This is an amazing and very constructive video where you analyse the dark arts a little deeply. I say little because there are still tons of things that can't be obviously covered in a 10 minute video. There was sectumsempra curse by snape. That is dark curse here are some more:

Protego diabolica
Fiendfyre
Morse Morde (sorry if the spelling is wrong)
Expulso (dark twin of confringo)
I absolutely love dark magic dude. If HP world was real, I would immediately join Voldemort. I would be so good at it even he and all his followers will learn from me.
Why do magic people not say Volmort’s name?
Yeah dark magic has always been seen as evil due to evil people using it for evil reasons, but not all dark magic is bad and mostly would be more considered black magic which is just another version of white magic or good magic as the wizard world would put it
What about being able to blast fire from the wand or lightning I mean that looks like that's real Combat magic that's you know the school of Destruction
In the old days the only kind of magick was mostly Black Magick
Could they use the unforgivable curses on non humans without consequence?
