TODAY MIKE "THE GRASS CUTTER" DONNELLY FROM MWM WARBIRDS TEST FLEW OUR 1/4 SCALE PR MK9 SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE THAT WE RECENTLY ACQUIRED FROM MIKE BOOTH, IN 2012 MIKE BOOTH FLEW HER ACROSS THE ENGLISH CHANNEL FROM CALAIS TO DOVER WHILST IN A CHASE PLANE,
MIKE BOOTH PRODUCES THE KITS FOR THIS MODEL UNDER THE FLYING LEGENDS BRAND AND ALSO BUILT THIS MODEL AS WELL,
DEAN HAD ABOUT SIX FLIGHTS WITH HER AFTER MIKE TEST FLEW HER,
DEAN WAS ON A BUDDY LEAD JUST IN CASE ANY COMPLICATIONS AROSE,
THE MODEL FLEW WELL AND DEAN WAS TAKING OFF AND LANDING HER ON ONLY HIS SECOND FLIGHT !
THE SPIT IS POWERED BY A 3W 80 cc PETROL THROWING A 26X10 WOODEN PROP,
SHE WEIGHS IN AT AROUND 40 LBS,
SHE ALSO HAS A WING SPAN OF AROUND 110 INCHS,
MANY THANKS TO MWM WARBIRDS FOR ALL THEIR HELP AND ADVICE WITH "CONNIE" AND ALSO MANY THANKS TO STUART & KEN & MARK FOR THEIR HELP AND ADVICE ON THE DAY AND THANKS TO NLMFC FOR ALLOWING US TO FLY HER THERE, FILMED ON 1-3-2014,
REGARDS PETE & DEANO,
Seeing u that close to the ground had my heart pounding, beautiful plane and that's some awesome flying.
That's one of the nicest spits I have seen. Can't get over how big it is and nice it looks in the air. Well done on flying it so smoothly I think I would have the thumb shakes, with that one. Well done
many thanks darran, she looks great in the air doesn't she !
The paintjob alone is flawless, gorgeus plane 10/10
An excellent aircraft and some exceptional flying - look forward to seeing her in the flesh. Brilliant vid as usual Pete - keep them coming.
thanks jon, howd the bike ride go ?
thanks jon, she sure looks lovely in the flesh, see you soon mate
- deano
A+ with a great weathered look and smooth flying style. The build looks solid too.
thanks for your comment
- deano
Love that Spitty guys congratulations on acquiring her! Young Deano, excellent piloting of that beauty, sweet takeoffs, passes and landings, cracking flights! Pete, of course excellent camerawork and video and sure your proud of young Deano's performance! Two BIG full scale thumbs up from the Fred camp!
thanks fred, its a whole different ball game when you get to this size, thankfully mike has taken dean under his wing and is helping us both no end.
yes m8 im well proud of im - he broke a prop on the second nose over and took it bad but as mike says you just gotta get on with it !
regards pete,
Rock solid flying and magnificent aircraft, thank you for posting!
Awesome video guys! That's a monster of a plane. I'm not fan of warbirds, personal preference, but this one sure was smooth in the air and it was a treat to watch.
thanks derek, the boy did good - lol,
Wow looks bigger than 25 percent! Neat story about the English Channel! Great flyin guys!
thanks dave, great model,
As ever, excellent video and flying from you guys, a pleasure to watch, and I can only but imagine the buzz you must have got from flying "Connie" Bet you are now looking forward to the next outing.
thanks chris, was a brilliant day with great weather to go with it !
hope you can make the next outing m8,
deans looking forward to test flying your piss ugly skyraider - lol
Great flying! Very smooth and realistic.
What a fantastic warbird, great flying MIKE + DEANO.
Hope too see it at WESTON PARK
:-)
many thanks sean, maybe mike will fly her at weston,
- pete,
pilots are judged by their landings. this landing was excellent, textbook perfect. a pity to see the nose-over during taxi, after such a great flight. for only 80cc, the 3w really pulls that plane. many thanks for posting this video.
many thanks rob, connie is a heavy girl but once the air speed is built up the 3w pulls her around well as you say, it seems that the u/c should come forward a little to help with the nose over problem but then she wouldnt be scale i suppose,
regards dean,
Fantastic plane, superb flights. Have many event free flight with it guys.
thanks mate
- deano
many thanks barlas, hope to fly her again soon my friend - pete,
Very well flown, indeed, Mike!
G'day Pete and Dean just like the real thing they were evidently hard to land because you couldn't see where the wheels were in relation to ground and take offs were tricky as well. You did alright Dean and what a lovely scale model she looked beautiful in the air especially the low passes great stuff! Regards John
Brilliant plane, site and flying though my OCD is crying out for a three blader and lower revs
Beautiful spitty, i love the way one wheel goes up before the other. Great piloting from Deano and nice steady camera work Pete.
thanks ian, great scale looking model for sure, pleasure to fly - pete,
Thanks for another great video! Terrific plane and flight!
thanks jeff
Fantastic model and great flights. Awesome video.
Marlin
thanks marlin
In would love to have an airplane like this, but I don't have any rubber boots!!
Very nice flying and pretty bird........p
I never knew Mike flew his Spit across the Channel! Not sure how he could part with a model that did that! But she is obviously in good hands! Such a shame the photos and video from the crossing didn't come out well. Would love to have seen some nice shots over the water!
thanks sam, mike will update his webbsite about the channel crossing soon !
One of my FAVS :) Its on my list! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
thanks tom, she is lovely isn't she :)
- deano
Very nicely flown.
Looking good, Big thumbs up..Tim
thanks Tim, she fly's great :)
- deano
I noticed this model has a 2 bladed propeller. What are the primary reasons for choosing between 2, 3, or 4 bladed propellers in these size RC aircraft. What, if any performance difference would one expect going from 2 blades to 3 (or 4)?
awesome what a plane nice flights
thanks Andrew, keep up the great flying mate

Incredible.. such a stunning scale Spit!
Superb flying skills too!
I love WW2 Warbirds...but I have scale envy, my largest FMS Spitfire is only 1400mm wingspan
I remember hearing about the Channel flight.. so this was 'the' Spitfire? Awesome job fellas!
many thanks for your comment
fms are great flyers we have the mustang and zero
yes this is the spit that flew the channel
- deano

- deano
Beautiful! 3w 85 sound good!

tecnicalkev lol
Beautiful model and very well flown too congratulations Deano. It must be something else to fly a model of that calibre.
Good to see some history of the model in the description too. Any links to stuff on the cross channel flight? I didn't think the French were too keen on that idea.
hi dan , thanks for the comments, not sure if it was documented because of the media frenzy on the olympics etc, - pete,
Hi buddy is that the flying gadgets spitfire. Super
Pete and deano, looks like you guys got yourselves a real purtty spit. She looks great in the air, very scale. Pete, is that you at the end flying her? I hear your voice an awfull lot but never see ya. Lol. Nice job boys.
hi steve, she flies really well and her only vice is a tendency to nose over with to much power,
yes im the ugly bugger at the end with a stupid look on his face !
better off hearing my voice - lol,,
That guy……….flew the crap out of that Spitfire:…good show
cheers roland
Brilliant!
Awesome plane and looks great in the air, great video I had to watch all of it ;-)

Will do!! looks nice, how many flights as she had ?
+Topvideos1001 thanks, not sure if youve read the description but she was flown across the english channel in 2012 by the original owner / builder mike booth, she is seven years old so im guessing well over 60 flights by now ! regards pete,
+tbobborap1
OMG! that is an achievement in its self, I have only just found this and will look at more of the videos.
Mike did a great job, that's for sure.
Bernie.
thanks bernie - enjoy
Nice Flying !
Awesome spitfire
thanks for your comment
I also have a 1/4 Spitty with a 3W 85 but it has a noisy pitts style muffler,I like your cannister.Whats it made of?nice work.
Steve
A planet almost got in the way. Risky! Nice flying.
Cheers Pete - hard work! How can the wind be against you the whole time, and since when did Essex get so hilly? Hopefully we will have some decent weather next weekend for some formation Sea Fury fun fighter beat-ups!
dogfight double sounds good m8
Just great!
Way cool :)
Is Deano going to fly warbirds now? Now he know how difficult it is to fly ... expecially how difficult the take off and landings of a Spitfire can be :)
*THUMBS UP* ... Horst
thanks horst
i am hoping to fly her at the shows maybe next season, i know how hard it is to fly them, especially landing lol, thanks for your comment.
- deano
tbobborap1 cool Deano ... plz don't crash it :)
always happy landings !!! ... cheers, Horst
RCScaleAirplanes
i will sure try my best mate lol,
- deano
hi horst, looking forward to the coming season - pete,
tbobborap1 I'm sure you will ;o)
Nice to finally put a mug to the voice, no matter how scary it is. Ha ha.
cheeky bugger - lol,
A stunning, well flown Spitty! Nice job Mike, Deano and of course...Pete!
She's a great addition to the hangar. Is there any information on Mike's flight across the channel? I'm very curious to hear how he landed it. Thumbs up and cheers, Bob
thanks for your comment bob, mike is going to add some info to his website about the channel crossing, when he has i will post the link in the description.
- deano
Muito lindo eu amo escala RC
many thanks
What a thing of beautiful proportions she truly is..😍
where can i get me one
Everything is great. The engine sound is missing. Sounds like a toy.
hi phil, i guess your 1/4 scale spit has a real v12 merlin in it - lol
nice one guys
thanks
No way that's 1/4 scale. 1/6 maybe at a stretch.
hi zeddy, the real spitfire has a 36 foot wing span which is 432 inchs,
connie is 110 inchs, 432 divided by four equals 108 inchs so i guess that makes her as near quarter scale as damn it !
1/6 scale would give connie a wingspan of 72 inchs which is the size of our 32cc yt international spitfie,
connie has an 80cc 3w petrol in her so we wouldnt be able to fit that in a 1/6 scale model either,
hope this clears it up - regards pete,
Too bad it sounds like a lawnmower.
Deano is a natural Pete.
Add one of these to your list.
Dean will be flying with the war birds this summer.......
thanks deek, would be nice if dean could fly at shows but reality is he needs a lot more exsperiance before its safe for him to fly in public !
have to wait and see i suppose - pete,
