Was it really a huge thing though? I remember 404 was definitely the most well known seed, but I had never heard of this challenge until the recent renewed interest in pre-1.0 Minecraft
It's not just the beta gameplay, there's something in your calm tone and open dialogue that delivers the feel of what TH-cam felt like around 2011-2012. Thanks for introducing me to this challenge
It reminds me of "Coes Quest" or something like that. Back then, youtube was so new, if you clicked on episode 1 of a series, all of the suggested videos would just be the rest of that series in order. It was kind of nice that way.
@@gengarjuice69 Only because I was the only guy in my group that understood the concept of circle strafing. My combat abilities peaked before the introduction of enchantments though.
8:49 When lava flows, it firsts set the block to magma, then sets the data value to one to signify that it has flown away a single block from th source. After this is causes a block update The act of destroying a redstone dust, causes a block update in the water tile, at which point the lava still thinks it is a source tile. This causes the water to turn the lava to directly change into obsidian. Then it sets the data on the obsidian to 1, which has no effect on the obsidian, before updating the water again
- Yeah not sure why this method would be used, seems a little more time consuming than necessary, plus you require redstone, I always found it easier to just grab a bucket of lava put it in place, make it obsidian, then grab the next bucket, I mean you only need 10 to make the portal, and he had a ton of it around, so would have been really easy.
- Plus, does not require a diamond pick to do it because you are placing the lava exactly where you want the obsidian. like using wood to start the portal up is harder.
Things like this challenge make me wish Minecraft had a "cave only" world gen option, especially post caves and cliffs update with all the new underground biomes and generation. It'd be so cool! Especially since there are so many new ways to get food underground

I get 2014 vibes from this video I love it
You should really take a look at what this challenge would have looked like on 1.20.1. The seed is absolutely beautiful both above and below. I didn't know this was a challenge myself until I watched this video, so thank you for the knowledge. :D
This is beautiful I'm gonna watch all of your stuff dude, it brings me back to simpler times
That's so cool to see yoi still reply to comments after 4 months, i appreciate when content creators care about thier fanbase, cool video, subbed
I've just found this and I'm really enjoying it. I hope to see more in this series!
Great video! Really takes me back to those early 2010's let's plays. Chill vibes.
I love the lighting in old Minecraft. It just get's so pitch black without a light source
I did a different style of this several years ago on a random seed. I could "go outside", but never exposed to direct sunlight. But as soon as i start the world, you must dig down and hide. No day to get stuff, immediately dig down. Getting water, saplings and growing stuff in the desert was challenging, but very fun.
I saw the title and then checked the date, expecting something really old. I was pleasantly surprised. Good memories
This sounds like the perfect setup for an ARG
Lava pillars are a clever lighting method.
Just stumbled upon your channel now, I remember doing this challenge back in the day. You've got all the right things to have a million subs! Happy yting!
this gives me the vibes of early MC youtube series :) love it!
It’s crazy to see how much Minecraft has changed since I was a kid, and it’s crazy I can say “since I was a kid” in regards to Minecraft.
