      Hey Paul. Do you know what is the lowest RF frequency of the device? I bought the Broadlink and couldn’t use it because the fan I have ise a 304.25 RF frequency. Do you know if the LinknLink hub goes down to that range?

    A top I've seen elsewhere is to set your routines up (if your system supports it), so that when no motion has been detected for 5 minutes, the lights fade out over another minute or so - it gives you a more subtle trigger to shift your position without getting plunged into darkness because you're too stealthy

    • @RNMSC
      @RNMSC 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      One addition to this if it's an option is to set up the 'turn on' trigger to determine whether the lights are fading off, and fade them back up to reduce the jarring sensation of the lights having faded half way and you suddenly realize you need to move a bit. In HA, you might set a helper as a boolean that gets set if the lights are fading, and then the turn on condition has an option that checks to see if that helper is true or false. The associated automations would clear the fading state as part of their actions.
      Note that I'm not sure if this is something that can be done in Alexa or Google Home.

      I have multiple lights in my office, and I have had them all switch off and need to move. I fixed it by setting 2 routines, first one turns off one light after 2 mins, the second one everything else after 4 mins. And the presence detected turns everything on. So if the one light goes off, I move, it comes back on.

    16 pounds! That is incredible. I've got the Aqara FP2 and it's a costly little beast. It does do zones, so I can check occupancy of particular chairs in the room rather than just occupancy in general, but at 16 pounds, I could see getting a few of these.
    Aside: I'm somewhat embarrassed that I actually understood every word in the word soup the "Actual Home Assistant User" said. That does not, however, mean that I'd have no problem doing all that just to get my little radar box working.
    IR Blaster with temp and humidity sensor: With both of those sensors, this is great for controlling those air conditioner units that have IR remotes. Then you add in radar presence sensing and this is a phenomenal device in a very small package.
    I do like the fact that they also have a separate temp/humidity sensor as it allows you to place a few of these around areas where the temperature and humidity are good to know. (The bathroom, the enclosed porch, etc.)
    "Just use the Link n Link app to set it up..." Agreed, it's a bit less annoying to not have to use the app once it's set up, but I do wish they'd done something so it was just discoverable by Google Home or something.
    It is good that these devices can be plugged in. The only problem with using "any USB port" is that you do have to go out and get a wall wart to power them. They're cheap, but it's still one more thing to do.
    433 MHz (on the blaster): This is also great. I have some Sonoff 433 MHz controlled devices (fan/light controls mostly) and I could use this as another way to set those without the remote or Home Assistant dashboard.
    "I can't wait to see more from this company." Agreed.
    Thanks again for a great review of some really compelling products. I'll be checking those links out.

      After reading some articles about how many young women named Alexa were starting to hate/change their names, because of Amazon ruining it, and lots of young men being jerks, issuing sexually harassing "commands" to them, etc., I change my wake word to "computer", like the Star Trek shows that inspired Alexa in the first place.
      For the most part, it works really well, and I can now say Alexa with impunity. The only problem I've really noticed is when I'm watching actual Star Trek, and they are talking to their ship. Thankfully, mine does not know how to engage defensive systems, or ready to warp core, so it's usually pretty benign, and funny. 😂

If company decides to charge you for it or just closes, you can put device in a bin. So local connection for reliable device is a must.

    I would be interested in seeing how their Home Assistant integration works to warrant adding the logo to the listings/website. This is Andy from LinknLink :) FP2 from Aqara can measure the target distance so it has a zone concept. Ours is also designed by radar tech so if you are in the same range the detection accuracy is almost same but just we don't have distance measurement. But we also have some features Aqara doesn't have like downloading data for up to 3 years and the support of Modbus protocol.

Broadlink's RM4 pro works locally, and I suspect this is using similar infrastructure from the look of the app and a couple other pieces of evidence. Once the Home Assistant kids get their hands on it I am fairly confident it will work locally via Home Assistant

    Hi Paul, I've bought one of the ehub units and a number of the motion ones. In my testing, I have found that the motion/radar ones detects motion when there is no way it could have. Since you have had these for awhile, have you also seen this?

  • @keithjohnston1981

    Excellent video as always. I suppose the only bit missing is ambient light based routines on the e-motion as I would only want the lights to come on if the ambient light wasn’t enough. Can it do this are you aware?

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could add a condition to the Alexa routine to only run between certain hours, but that's as clever as it gets for now. If you were using the linknlink ecosystem then that has more conditions for routines than Alexa does. If you can brave the modbus thing it's all pretty open and then obviously home assistant could then use conditions

    I purchased two of the hubs, but I find they are slow to report occupancy. Paul did you find this? I have set them up near the kids bed rooms to turn on hall lights and most of the time it misses the trigger due them not seeing anyone (adults or children)

    The inclusion of Modbus TCP is great as it means you could control / monitor all the devices from a bespoke DIY esp32-s3 setup (for example) using an industry standard, open and very tried and tested protocol. Writing standalone Windows / Linux utilities is also trivial as there are so many Modbus example projects online. You just need to Mod your Bus...
    Please LinknLink, start using USB C receptacles on all your products. When we see a MicroUSB it makes the product feel out-of-date.

  • @nickstefanisko
    @nickstefanisko 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    ModBus is an industrial protocol often used in data center meters and building management system sensors. It's so olde that it used to use RS-485, and sometimes still does.

    hi I bought the person sensor, I cannot connect to alexa, opened the alexa app, and follow the instructions, get a 404 error when trying to enable the skill, also alexa app can't find the skill either. it does work the person detected is very reliable, just can't connect to alexa to turn lights off.

    You introduced me to the Smart Home around 10yrs ago with the Broadlink RM. The video showed how to copy a Remote Controlled Plug into the RM (storing it as a lamp). These were much cheaper than Smart Plugs at the time. 5 plugs controlled but a 10 button remote. I have tried many other brands of IR/RF Controller but none will copy these remote codes. Will this Linknlink?

Edit: Jesus Christ the EMotion is sold out already!

    I'm getting really f**ked off with Alexa. A lot of the features just don't work, ask it something and it hasn't got a scooby. I'm sick and tired of my echo show 8 and three echo speakers not playing ball and refusing to link up and play the same music at the same time. Three weeks, a month then for no apparent reason upstairs won't talk to downstairs or the lounge won't talk to the kitchen and rebooting the lot just changes what speaker won't talk to another. It's pretty pathetic when having the units talking to each other is one of the brands most basic operations.

    I bought a e-motion version and it has great range to see me in my workshop, which is a problem with current solution. Alexa integration worked and it turns on with a slight delay but tolerable. Problem is that Alexa won't turn it off. Per Alex app, it sees motion continuously, never updates status to no motion detected and consequently never shuts off lights.
    Also integrated into Google home and although Google sees the device, It simply lists it on the device page. Google does not see it as a triggering device that can initiate a routine
    Maybe with a few firmware updates this will work. It does have good sensing range but right now it's a paperweight. I would not advise anyone buying it till these issues are corrected

    • @hotblack1166
      @hotblack1166 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Apologies if I'm stating the obvious but you are creating a separate Alexa routine to turn off after, say, 1 minute of no motion detection? I had problems with Alexa only completing the on/off routines once until I changed Set Motion Alert to 1 second in the LinknLink app. Can't be sure that was the problem but after that the Alexa routines worked fine.

    • @brutus6574
      @brutus6574 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hotblack1166 I probably should have come back to update the comment. That issue lasted for about a week and then it self corrected itself. I have to assume it was a software or firmware update
      It's been working fine since.
      There is still a lag and it's not consistent. The motion detector will sometimes let me walk into the middle of the room before triggering the lights, while on other occasions it's so sensitive that it will see my cat 3 meters outside the door.
      The Amazon Flex with motion sensor was much, much faster. The tradeoff is that this device has much greater range so it sees me no matter where I am, and it allows me mount it in a corner which I couldn't with the other device. It's enough of a benefit that I continue to use it and would consider buying more.
