- In this video, I run some flyover tests of the GSPro golf simulator software on my non-gaming laptop, and compare to a second-hand gaming PC I purchased on Facebook Marketplace.
Will the laptop even load up GSPro? Can the Gaming PC run GSPro on Ultra graphics? Which graphics setting is the right blend of performance and visuals? Can you play GSPro without a gaming computer?
Stay tuned to find out!

Fantastic video Chris. You deserve more followers!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Helps me to know that people are getting something out of the videos.
thanks for taking the time to post this vid i havent got gspro for this very reason now i might get it thank you sorry for gramma im dyslexic
No problem, happy to help!
Thanks for sharing. I'll have to try this on my laptop.
give it a go for sure! You don't need to spend $1000+ on a computer just to run your golf simulator. Save the money and spend it on a new driver :)
Hey Chris, this was super helpful. Gaming PC is a little intimidating when you start looking at prices. But seeing this test is really good to see real world budget setup!!😊
Thanks! The goal was to make it not intimidating, you might not need such a good computer to run some great software!
I just realized u did the 2nd swing fittings on their channel! Those fittings were great w/ Thomas.
Yeah that was me! Super fun experience. Kinda got me thinking about creating golf content actually
Perfect time for this video, thanks. I'm setting up my sim right now and just have a Intel i7 11th gen with Iris Xe integrated graphics but am really hoping I can get away with running GSPro on it for now until I get a better CPU. Also in MN go United!
Also did you get the yearly sub or the lifetime?
@@lali0020 I think your current computer will work fine on the lite graphics. Might have some frame rate difficulties on the more graphics heavy courses, but it'll load up and let you start playing.
I just did the yearly sub. My understanding is that GSPro is still being updated pretty regularly. At some point if it matures I'll do the lifetime, but for now it sounds like the best option is the annual so you can get the updates.
@@ChrisEckesultimately I found an egpu I'm going to attach to it that I found on marketplace and I think that will give it a big boost
Nice work
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this video, I was going to try the same thing and make the $15 bet to find out if my laptop might get me by after spending way to much on a launch monitor
I wonder if things a 10mph wind would change things. The other important thing you should probably mention is what GSPro connector you are using as that could potentially impact cou cycles available for GSPro. If you could do a screen recording of shot flight we might be able to see a difference but again it could detract from thee GSPro rendering
Finally for some folks they may have to pay for a connector license that may not be refundable as well as GSPro so it could which creates more buyer anxiety
i've got a Garmin R10, so I just use the OpenAPI connector. I think if you want to dip your toes into GSPro that the R10 is a good entry point.
What LM do you have? I know since I made this video that Foresight now has an official connector, and I know Uneekor does too.
Great demo and info … I haven’t tried GS pro yet but I couldn’t wrap my head around people saying you need a gaming comp. FPS matters in first person shooters and action games. Who cares about jittery flyovers??!
Totally agree. I think all you need is something that will run the software. Eventually you'll probably want to upgrade, but just starting out I do NOT think you need to spend $1500 on a gaming computer.
@@ChrisEckesthanks Chris:-)
Great video, just realised I made my comment on someone else comment. Doh
Premonition course, taxes my machine pretty good, biggest issue is the temps are topping at 102c on load up, enjoyed the info, you do know that for most of these guys nothing but the best will work for them. But sounds like me and you can be happy just like it is, it beats standing and waiting on people lining up putts like it's the US open, at the local course for $50.
Hah. I mean, for me, sim golf is just something you do in the wintertime / when it's night and too late to play real golf. Even the best sim golf is only a video game compared to real life golf IMO.
I did end up buying a low-end gaming desktop off of FB marketplace for cheap that I'm using now to run GSPro. I run it on Medium graphics currently, and it's just fine.
Yes, there will always be those enthusiasts that want only the best, but for my money, especially considering I don't view it as much more than an enjoyable diversion, I don't feel the need to sink $2k into a gaming rig to run GSPro at a bit higher graphics than what I can run it on now. I'd rather spend that money on playing real golf :)
thanks for watching!
I have several videos on the channel you might enjoy. Good info on my weak spot computers from abacus generation, lol
I have Lenovo with 2060 card and it will run ultra on all but the most graphic fill courses. Temps worry me looking for a tower for shop, this heated and cooled in SC
From experience with frame rates, the 18th at bayhill didnt have many trees therefore it worked ok.Problem i believe would come when you get to a hole with heavy trees.Treea i believe is the major issue.
Good to know! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Another great video. Would you recommend a better computer or a better projector to run GSpro?
Are you happy with your projector? Thanks again. Binging all you golf videos.
Honestly, I'd spend my resources on a good launch monitor before upgrades to the projector / computer.
I like my projector fine, but it does not project in 1080p. If I were to do it again, I'd spend a little more to get a 1080p projector up front, but now that I've got mine I'm pleased enough with it.
In my opinion, the computer and projector need to be good enough to not be disruptive, but once you've attained that level of quality, I'd rather have a better LM / better mat.
I’ve been using the Garmin R10 with awesome golf and really enjoying it, but looking to take it to the next level graphic wise. Thanks for all your help.
Great Video mate, I have recently bought a R10 and will definitely be getting GSPRO once my Sim Room is complete very soon, it’s great to know a cheaper pc will run it , I have a very similar(same spec)projector to yourself, so will not be running 4K anytime soon, I would be very happy with the medium GSPRO graphics, keep up the great videos mate, looking forward to seeing more, I am also a Ping man😀👍🇦🇺
Thanks so much!
I use my Dell laptop and it does just fine for me. Just my .02 worth.
yeah, it's really unnecessary unless you're looking for 4k ultra high-def picture. If you just want to play golf, what you have in your house now might work. Thanks for watching!
Good video! Just downloaded GS Pro the other night and setup my old gaming pc which surprisingly runs well only using a GTX 1080 TI which are now their minimum requirements on the website, I’m probably going to snag a 3060 ti and avoid a whole new build. But my question is what are you using for a projector?I’m thinking mine is the bottle neck right now because it doesn’t look as good as it should.
1080ti is a good card, imo. My PC has a 1060 6gb and it's working just fine.
My projector only outputs in VGA, so 1080 or 4k aren't possible for me.
@@ChrisEckes decided to save the money on buying a laptop and put a 3060 ti into my computer it only cost me 300. Bought an Epson 1060 on eBay for 350 and seriously my experience has gone through the roof. It looks so good I can’t see any reason to spend more
Thanks for vid. Question...any issues with the laptop getting too hot after a while?
Yeah, the laptop did get pretty warm to the touch. I was trying to raise it up a bit so it had some ventilation.
Just got the Garmin R10 for Christmas! Looking into this now... I have a gaming PC but the real problem is I am not taking that outside. I don't have the height clearance to set this up anywhere permanently, so laptop makes more sense. I have an older gaming laptop with a Nvidia 860m gpu I was thinking of using. Based off your tests that should be fine?
I would think so... The laptop I was running mine on didn't even have a graphics card and it worked ok.
Recommend you stick to lite graphics settings when you start up GSPro.
Good luck, thanks for watching!
What GPU are you running on your PC for Gspro, I’m looking at a used setup with a 1660ti 6GB and wondering if sufficient
I've got a 1060 6GB. Your 1660ti is better than mine, you could certainly run GSPro on Medium at least, if not High.
it goes without saying that software with a lot of demanding 3D graphics requires a powerful graphics card and a powerful computer. GSPro 4k mode requires a lot from the computer.
Yeah, if you're wanting to play in 4k you definitely need a strong computer. If, however, you want to just play GSPro and don't care so much about the graphics / immersion, you can do it with much less powerful hardware. Thanks for watching!
Sorry if I missed it, but can you share the make/model of the device you bought on fb marketplace?
I really don't know, it was from a kid who had built himself a better one. I can tell you it has a 1060 6GB Nvidia graphics card, which seems to run Medium just fine. Hope that helps, let me know if there's anything else specific you're looking for and I can look into it!
Do you think it could work on the steam deck? I don't have a PC and the steam deck seems multipurpose and fun
I've heard some speculation on that front, but haven't seen any real tests. I would think that it should... don't know why not!
If you down Gspro to one computer and it’s too slow, can you transfer to new computer at no cost ?
Yes you can!
I have a laptop Laptop HP Victus Gamer 2022, FHD 144Hz, Intel 12th Core i5-12450H, 32GB RAM, SSD de 512GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, Windows 11.
Should GSPRO runs for this laptop?
1650 is a little underpowered for 1080p, but my laptop had much worse graphics than the one you mentioned here and it ran the software.
What card gra have???
if im using my Garmin r10 to my pc while using gspro! the connection Bluetooth or hardwire to pc? sorry new to this trying to understand.
There is a connector tool you can download that will bluetooth connect the Garmin R10 directly to your PC for GSPro.
Look in the R10 channel of the Simulator Golf Tour discord, lots of helpful tips.
I'm also planning on releasing a video soon about how my setup is all connected together, that's coming sometime this week!
You can also search "R10 bluetooth direct connection" and there are a couple good videos on it. Joe Lagowski Golf has the video that I watched to help get my setup working.
Why in the heck would you pitch with a 5 iron? How bout a wedge?
Hah I just had one club in my hands, doesn't really matter as the goal wasn't to play the hole, just see how the system runs. Thanks for watching!
Looking for a cheap gaming laptop as we speak
If you can make it work, I understand that a tower PC is generally better than a laptop at the same specs, and is more upgradable down the line.
Good luck!
What kind of laptop did you have?
It was a Lenovo flex with integrated AMD Radeon graphics. Not a gaming laptop but any means.
GSPro is worth it, even on Lite
Oh awesome. I have a surface pro with intel 520 hd graphics. Should I give it a go? I was looking at also possibly getting dell xps 15 laptop with GTX 1050 graphics. Would that be better?
@@christopherciciora6533 The laptop with the graphics card will very likely work better than the one with integrated graphics.
However, I don't think it will work that much better.
I've learned through this golf sim process that laptop graphics aren't as good as desktop graphics, and that a lot depends on what resolution you're planning to run in. I don't think either of the laptops you mentioned will do much better than GSPro Lite graphics, so in my mind you might as well use the laptop you have currently and save up for a better machine later on in your golf sim journey. I think if you buy the other laptop with the 1050 card you'll want to upgrade very quickly, and it will be a waste of money.
@@ChrisEckes awesome thanks for the reply. What resolution did you run at? Would that help things to run it lower? Still a little choppy on my end with my surface pro
@@christopherciciora6533 my projector is only VGA resolution (1024x768), and yes I do understand that a lower resolution will be easier on the laptop
What projector?
I have a BenQ MX825STH. Only outputs in XGA (not 1080p), but plenty bright.
Looks a bit Nintendoish to me.
