Reason Dodgers closed on Snell is due to high probability Sasaki signs elsewhere. Reason is Sasaki is looking to max Japanese endorsement deals to make up shortfall from MLB rookie contract. Considering Ohtani and Yamamoto already have major Japanese endorsements, there is not much left for Sasaki. IMO, he signs with Padres to apprentice under his mentor, Yu Darvish.

Major league baseball players typically pay tax in every state where they play, not just the state of residence. Blake Snell will get hit with state income taxes. It doesn't matter that Washington may not tax him. The commentators should know this.
salary and signing bonus may be different; since the bonus is a one-time payment, where he is residing at the moment he receives it may be the only factor
It depends where he is living when the deferred money starts coming in. If he lives in Florida, he won’t be paying taxes because he played for the Dodgers.
