CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Tania (Rachel Weisz) helps Zaitsev (Jude Law) escape from the sights of a skilled Nazi sniper (Ed Harris).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A turning point in 20th century war history is the focus of this fact-based account of the 1942-1943 battle of Stalingrad, in which the Germans were finally defeated by Russian influence -- one of the bloodiest battles in World War II history. The film stars Jude Law as Vassili, a marksman from the Urals who is transported to Stalingrad in 1942, and a master German sniper, Major Koenig (Ed Harris). Koenig, an expert German sniper, is determined to eliminate his formidable opponent by any means necessary; meanwhile, Vassili has joined forces with Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), a young Russian political adversary, who is impressed by Vassili's skills and raises his profile in the Soviet Union. Both Vassili and Danilov become involved with Tanya (Rachel Weisz), whose Jewish parents have been captured by the Germans and have forced her to take up with the men on a sniper expedition. Koenig and Vassili begin to develop traps for each other, until fate inevitably must bring the two sharpshooters together. This large-scale production, financed mostly by Teuton companies, also features Bob Hoskins as Nikita Krushchev and Ron Perlman as an aging Russian sniper.

Every now and then I find a comment that makes me rofl. This is one of those comments.
اسم الفلم كامل
I love how every sniper scene in this movie is so quiet as it depicts one of the worst and most active battles in history
was also a stalemate for a long time
that's just how sniper duels are...long silences, crawling, looking for the opponent, then 1 shot, and it's over...infrantry fights are much more chaotic due to the number of soldiers involved, and the way they shoot..machineguns, grenades, maybe even the occasional tank or artillery.
@@kuroroluxifer8321 He means that the sound of the battle should be extremely loud, deafening at times, and constant. The entire city was under constant bombardment with attacks and counter-attacks raging non- stop. The point is that even if the movie is about snipers the background is much too quiet.
@@RikkiTikkiTavi290 a constant noise from bombs and firearms in the background would've become realy annoying, really fast, and it would've drawn away the focus from the duel...the silence makes it easier to focus just on them, and also gives the idea that for them the rest of the battle in the city was of no importance at that very moment..they were totally focused on fighting each other.
They would fight and attack but there were usually down periods to resupply, sleep..etc
November 18th, the day before the HUGE encirclement, Stalingrad was quiet while everyone licked their wounds.
YOU ONLY GRAZED HIM!
lol damn, you beat me to it
mierzhen
IT WAS JUST A DECOY!
mierzhen YOU ONLY WOUNDED HIM!!!!!!!!
NICE SHOT YOU GOT HIM!
I CANNOT RISK IT AGAIN, IT IS UP TO YOU TO FIND HIM NOW
Every time she said ‘yes’ was a warmer life-saving feeling. What a scene!
I love how the German looks down on Vasilli for ages and you can see him talking in the glass, giving the german a sense of total power over Vasilli, before eventually it pans round to Vasillis perspective to show he also can see exactly where the sniper is, subverting the established power play. Brilliant filmmaking.
My favorite scene.
Konig has never driven behind a semi with the sign that says, "if you can't see me in my mirrors I can't see you"
If you think this was "brilliant filmmaking" then I can see why you never became a filmmaker.
Yeah, that was a nice touch.

Gets hit by a huge bullet, barely rippes his glove. Nice job Hollywood :)
I would imagine he didn't get hit by the bullet directly, just grazed him. His position had been compromised, though, so he had to retreat
Meh LordOfNothingreally
that are german gloves :D
well the hole should be exact same size as the caliber. nothing more.
Maybe he got hit by a piece of shrapnel, such as a piece of those louvers, and not the bullet itself.
Vasili likes a challenge so apparently he loads his rifle with .22 caliber bullets. :)
His describing skills are amazing. I probably wouldn't be able to describe sniper location precisely without pointing my finger lol
😅
Gotta know the terrain and what boon to even know how things are called
"you see the window, where the 3rd line from top to bottom is shattered? he's inside."
That scene is BS have anyone here seen the size of 7.62x54 round that the mosin nagant shoots? That in real life would have taken half of his hand off go through and hit him somewhere else and probably kill him. That round is so powerfull it would go through fat trees it's about the same power of a 308 winchester
@@marcelarmas5817It is just a movie anyway. The director wants the major alive for the final duel 😅
This film is well under rated. one of the best war films and some good sniper scenes.
Ikr
The Sniper who went on to be the Pope,The actor that is. One the best Stalingrad movies and sniper Movies.🤯🥶
Those were hard days in WW2
It is one of the very few realistic sniper films as well. In reality, snipers rely on hiding in camouflage for hours, sometimes even days waiting for their target. Holllywood thinks otherwise.
@Redd Cloak some rely on masked shots
What a quick scope!
He forget do a 360 x)

@@flisko123 he's a boomer tho
Ed Harris was brilliant in this movie.
His entire hand would have been a floppy, stringy mess after that shot. Probably not unlike pulled pork. Those were German gloves tho, mind you.
I always try to imitate the “a large piece of glass” when im in the fridge.
@Kiran Sadhu when im inside a big freezer or refrigerator when i talk smoke comes out of my mouth and i do his lines
@Kiran Sadhu you to stay safe
@Kiran Sadhu good talk :)
This is one of the few movies out there that actually appeared to do the scope correctly. The circle of light on the German's eye shows that the scope isn't the typical prop that magnifies the wrong way in the tube. Directors STILL mess this up way after this movie came out.
I like how a 7.62mm round hits him in the hand and he winces like it was a mosquito.
I like how he quicks scopes him
To everybody griping that the round would have taken his hand off, I think the point was supposed to be that it knicked him.
The Russian sniper's shot was almost impossible and HIGHLY unlikely, but the tactic the Russian sniper used was valid.
thats not the prob. he made way to much noise first of all
How would you know unless youve been a trained and combat experienced Sniper ?
Not impossible, he knew exactly where he was and the target was sitting still. People shot moving or flying targets all the time. Kinda like when pheasant hunting and one pops up behind you.
Dude its a movie. He literally got a flesh wound on his knuckle from a sniper round if that makes you feel any better about his impossible shot.
My favorite part of the movie. Great teamwork
When you cause such chaos by killing enemy field commanders that the head of the enemy's marksman school has to come after you--well, you've royally peeved someone, haven't you?
There is no historical account of such a fight ever taking place. There is not even any kind of historical record of a sniping teacher existing with that name and rank send to Stalingrad. There might have been some very fearce battles between Zaitsev and German snipers. But to this day no historian ever could find even a shroud of information of a famous duell with this high ranking major.
@@CrniWuk
Well, it´s a movie, not a historical accurate documentary.
@@Mithrandir1983 Never said it is. I actually quite like it and I think it is a very enjoyable movie with a great performance by the actors.
It wasn't meant as criticism.
@@CrniWuk Which is very funny, as Soviet sniper talked about it and said that dogtags he picked up from this sniper were very important for him
@@mariuszpudzianowski8400 No German historian ever found information about a Major Koenig though. I mean even if the Germans would have lied there would have been at least some information. But there is none.
NOTE That the hole that Vasily shot in the Majors glove can be seen in later scenes in the Film.
If you can see him, he can see you.
I know 7.62mm is very incredible round. But that shot was a grazing shot.
Constantine Joseph Most of the shots in the movie are bullshit and never took place
It ain't about reality boy,it's his story, why don't you go to war and prove us the most realistic shot eh? bullets and guns back then weren't as good as now,but still this portrays that a sniper to a sniper battle ain't endi'n unless one tries to give up run etc.
Bullets back then were very powerful compared to today's intermediate rounds.
Today most nations use 5.56mm, 5.45mm and the 5.8mm all intermediate medium distance bullets.
Back then every army had 7.62, 306 cal or 7.92 German Mauser. Those are sniper calibre or MG rounds in today's context.
Basically anyone can be a sharpshooter back then with 800m shots considered as effective. Only difference was there wasn't a high rate of fire compared to today.
To say bullets have improved is too simplistic. Even a Mauser 7.92mm can penetrate US Kevlar body armor. The style of fighting and doctrines have changed.
But physics is physics and grazing shots in modern 5.56mm will definitely deflect from any helmet.
Constantine Joseph Experience in army sir? cause based on your explanation you "sound" like you know more than these as*holes who just can't have their imagination to improve, losers
Yes I was for 30 months in the Singaporean army. Was a gunner of a 155mm howitzer.
They just can't make films like this anymore...
Indeed, one of my all-time fav war movies. The beginning was just out of this world good and almost as equal to Saving Private Ryan's beginning with the beach landings, although the latter would have the edge. But this entire movie was outstanding.

Mosin round to the hand?
'Tis but a flesh wound. No biggie 😺
It’s like that sniping mission in call of duty world at war in the veteran difficulty
2.07 is the best part he quickscopes major kongi the sound he makes when they shine glass reflection in major kongi is priceless
Amazing film
7.62 is known to overpenetrate and cause less damage than expected, because of its full metal body and its trajectory
It'd still rip his hand off
In that scene in the actual movie, the Russian rifle was laying on the ground & Ed Harris was looking at it through the scope on his K98, so he could’ve easily put a round through the receiver of it & that would’ve been it for the most part.
But then there would be no motivation for Vasiliy to leave his spot.
Fantastic movie
Yes it would.
7.92x57 can go trough brick and wood wall easily.
My favorite movie
Masterpiece
Two of the many famous Russian snipers of WW2 were women one with more than 230 kills and the other with more than 250 kills, one dude had more than 450 kills.
@104142689493803503303 The only sniper with more kills than Soviet snipers in WW2 was Simo Hayha, the "White Death", who racked up at least 500 kills (and possibly as many as 700) in three months in six hours of sunlight during the Winter War.
valinor100 it was a little over 750. 500 of which were with his rifle and the other 250 were with his submachine gun. Simo is actually the greatest sniper who ever lived right above Ziatzev and many other legends.
Overipe Canine Submachine guns have enough range to function as sniping weapons?
valinor100 I said both a rifle and a submachine gun. Now shoo. Go try and troll on some foul mouthed little 7 year on minecraft.
Overipe Canine
It was a serious question. I very much doubt he killed 200 people at close range with a submachine gun. Now I'd better leave this video where apparently I am trolling someone on WW2 weaponry.

Considering that was a Mosin he TANKED that shot to the hand
Smart move Vasili! I would’ve gotten shot right there if I scampered away
What's up with people saying he got shot directly in the hand? The bullet just grazed his hand, I thought that was obvious enough but I underestimated people's stupidity apparently.

*vasily was firing a mosin nagant that's chambered for 7.62mm, that would have shattered his targets hand and carried on through his throat/face
Very unrealistic and half-assed, but fun to watch.
Jean-Jacques Annaud never cared much about realism.
