    Thank you. I want this game and understand it much more now. This video will be watched a few more times to really get the scoring patterns. Very helpful.

    I am super late to this, obviously, but I did want to point out that it appears, at least from the most recent version of the rules, that this video is not correct about bonus points. In a 7-or-more player Odyssey game, a player who uses only one guess to get the right card gets a bonus point regardless of whether everyone guesses right or not. So a player who guesses right gets (a) 2 points if he uses two pegs and everyone guesses right, (b) 3 points if he uses one peg and everyone guesses right, (b) also 3 points if he uses two pegs and not everyone guesses right, or (c) a whopping 4 points if he uses one peg and not everyone guesses right.

    The scoring if there are more players than 6 is so confusing!!!!

    • @GamesOnBoard
      @GamesOnBoard  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Donalyn Marie Hi! Thanks for your comment. It is indeed confusing. Going player by player and having to ask around who each card belonged to... was a hassle. So after playing many games we came up with this system and as long as only one person does the scoring it goes quite well. It works fine with us but if you come up with another alternative please share it with us, we'd love to hear it.

      @@GamesOnBoard I use a different way.
      We use the normal score with only one pin.
      The fact it is difficult to find the card, with more cards, is righ, but at the same time it's really easy, with 12 people voting, that the Narrator card could be randomly chosen.
      So, if it only gets 1 vote, we give to the narrator only 1 or 2 points (depends on how many we are), while who got it correctly still get 3.
      What do you think?

    • @GamesOnBoard
      @GamesOnBoard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@STEENLABIRINTO Hey! So you only use 1 pin and give 3 points to whoever gets it right?
      Following the Dixit base game rules, any given player can achieve up to 6 points (3 if they get it right and 3 max if their card receives 3+ votes), on a turn when they are not the narrator.
      This might happen once or twice per round tops, meaning that if the narrator does a good job and earns 3 points, its possible that 1 or 2 players max, break a difference of 3 points compared to him (6vs3).
      The Odyssey expansion allows you to use 2 pins to increase your chances, and if you use only one pin and get it right you can get up to 7 points (4 for getting it right and 3 if your card is voted 3+ times). This makes that difference mentioned earlier go up to 4. (7vs3) and there are more players in the game so more players can "ace" that round.
      So although it is true that the more players in the game, the easier it is for the narrator to get away with their 3 points, the narrator always has less possible points to earn during that round than the rest of the players. By reducing those 3 possible points to 1 or 2, you might be giving the other players a higher advantage than the one they already have. The narrator might need a couple of rounds to get back in the game.

      My friends and I only use one voting peg, and we count to three before everybody placing their voting card on the card of their vote. This keeps it the same format as a regular Dixit

    I really like both the game (the original Dixit) and your tutorial/video! Very nice job! Question: Do you put your Dixit cards in plastic sleeves to preserve them?

    • @GamesOnBoard
      @GamesOnBoard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes I indeed use the sleeves to preserve the cards. I used sleeve all of my games but now I only sleeve the ones where you touch or hold the cards a lot and in hidden role games. I highly recommend it.

      @@GamesOnBoard Thanks for that tip. May I ask you about another idea? I was thinking about getting the Dixit game and also the next expansion pack of cards. Then I was going to mix the two decks together into one big deck and use it in the game -- for a greater variety of cards and also, if need be, a longer game before they run out. What do you think?

    • @GamesOnBoard
      @GamesOnBoard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ButOneThingIsNeedful I recommend doing just that. I have both dixit and dixit odyssey and 2 other expansions. When I sleeved the cards I did so facing down so I wouldn't see the images. Then I shuffled them all together. Every time I play there are cards I'm playing with for the first time. I have friends who don't mix the expansions but I prefer doing so.

      @@GamesOnBoard I've run into a problem, and I'm trying not to get ticked off. I ordered the regular Dixit game plus the next expansion pack of cards. Guess what? Though the design on the backs of the cards is the same, the original game's card backs are a noticeably DARKER SHADE than the backs of the expansion deck's cards. Bummer -- you can tell them apart! Now, if I mix the decks (as we talked about earlier) and the player giving the clue (the narrator) has, say, a darker card than the others, and the other players see that after shuffling the darker card is laid on the table face-up first (or second or third), they'll know which card is the clue-giver's. Do you see what I mean? I was so disappointed, and am not sure what to do. I guess the only answer is to have the narrator be sure to shuffle the played cards 'blindly' (i.e. keeping them out of everyone's sight, including their own, and then make sure they place the cards face-up on the table without anyone glimpsing the cards' backs. My original idea is not ruined, but almost. Oh well. Did you not have that problem?

    Do the covers you have over the cards come with the game? The plastic protectors?

      @GamesOnBoard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!, no they don't come with the game. They are called "card sleeves", you can purchase them at practically any board game store or online. Just make sure you get the right size.

    Hello! I dixit odyssey !!!
    Question: from Regulation I understood that the narrator receives 3 points each time his card took a vote and not (as in the example you) just 3 points!
    Who among us did wrong?!? : D

    • @GamesOnBoard
      @GamesOnBoard  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hello Alessandro, thanks for dropping by. The narrator receives 3 points if at least 1 player votes for his card as long as not everyone votes for his card. It is only 3, not 3 per vote. In his turn the narrator will either get 0 or 3 points.
      If it were like you are saying, in a 12 player game, if all but one player guessed correctly, the narrator would earn 30 points and the game would be over.
      The other players however can earn many more points.
      In Dixit a regular player can earn a maximun of 6 points when he is not the narrator. 3 for guessing the card correctly and an extra 3 if 3 other players vote for his card.
      In Odyssey a regular player can earn a maximum of 7 points when he is not the narrator. 4 for guessing the card correctly if he uses only 1 pin, and an extra 3 if 3 other players vote for his card.
      I hope this helps. Ciao!!!
