Remember that when buying extension cords keep in mind what you are going to use them on. My advice is to always go with a heavy duty cord that can handle those high wattage items like microwave ovens or refrigerators. The last thing that you want to do is go with a cheap flimsy cord that will melt, short out or start a fire.
Love My Dollar General ! I did 3 Scenarios ( store orders ) this past weekend and my Retail Cost was $110 and my Final Cost was $50 . ( using digital coupons & $5off$25 ) I get all my Household and Cleaning Items there . Great Video .. Thank You For Sharing ! 🍝
So true Jara. I usually go to the DG to pick up something I forgot at the grocery store. They had something cheaper one day & I picked up (I think 10) some. I got to the checkout & it was .25 more. The girl said, I’m sorry. I said, me too but you still have to give me the price it’s marked. She called the manager over & she agreed too. Thank you for updating & your channel! 😊🥰
I'm in a small rural town that has 2 grocery stores, a small Walmart and Dollar General. I like Dollar General but they are so under staffed it's ridiculous. I stopped in the other day and just like always I had to walk around the whole store to find someone to check me out. They had self checkout but did away with it because of theft. No wonder, there is never anyone up front. I never use self checkout anywhere anyway. Back years ago they had a squeak toy up front to alert the employees you needed to check out. I asked about that and the lady said Corporate won't let them use it anymore. I avoid Dollar General whenever I can.
Loved the idea of Vaseline and cotton balls as a fire starter and will try the salt in some of my expired hand sanitizers to extract the alcohol to see if i can use that as a fire starter as well. That will come in handy for our outdoor fire pit, at least until the forest service bans all open flames this summer. 🍝o's
FYI. If you use Cobain to wrap bandages, you can get a better price on it at Rural King or Tractor Supply CO. It is in the horse supply area often called horse wrap. It's a larger roll than you usually get elsewhere. One of the things I like best about Cobain is that it sticks to itself. Thank you
I found the long matches inside by the BBQ and planting supplies on a lower shelf. The app offers alot of money off and money earned . Select clip all (incase you see sn offer that wasn't selected)then go in and buy only what you want. Clerk told me offers clipped stay in phone one month and can reuse. Also $5.00 off can be combined with app iffers in Saturday. Thanks for the video.
If you are smart and go to 2 dollar stores and get to know the employees. When you go in and ask the employees about the price, they will make it right. And they are more likely to point out some great values. I don't fight the employees because they have to do what they have to. Treat them with respect, and they treat you with respect. That is just normal respect for everyone. I happen to be very lucky with 3 different dollar general stores, and the employees have been very helpful and friendly. They have informed me of several great sales. I find some great items and items cheaper than the regular stores, and they beat the hell out of fighting to get items from Walmart. I haven't shopped at Walmart going on 8 years now. I have used the canning jar from Dollar General stores, and they work great i have know problem using them and reusing them.
I have canned with their generic canning jars with no problems. I got them when the brand names were sold out everywhere. The only brand that I have had trouble canning with is the Pur brand. They had almost 100% failure rate for me, with apples and also turkey. 😢 I tried them with both their brand lids and ball lids, both failed. Those jars only get used for dry storage that doesn't need to be vacuum sealed.
🍝 We don't shop at DG - the ones near us are horribly understaffed so the isles are always stuffed with boxes and it's dangerous. But..if it was the only place to shop at - it would be hard to get at the level we are at, but it could be done.
Something that I found on the dollar aisle was moisture eliminators ... the exact ones that Dollar Tree sells. I need to make amother trip there to look for some goodies.
This tip is applicable to the solar stake lights... You can recharge rechargeable batteries with solar stake lights. Solar stake lights usually use the AA size battery. You can take out the inferior quality rechargeable batteries & place your good quality batteries in the solar stake light to recharge. This is a good way to recharge batteries in a grid down situation. Also, replacing inferior batteries with good quality batteries gives the lights a longer period of lighting. So, instead of the lights lasting only 4 hours per charge, they will last perhaps 6-8 hours per charge. (That is, if you bring them inside for lighting at night.) Try to find solar stake lights with the largest possible solar cell on top. They have a higher capacity for charging faster than the smaller solar cells. Then keep those cells clean & clear as possible.
If you are a little bit handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the LED light in the cheap solar lights with a better light bulb. It is actually very simple. I have done this for holiday decorations. Plus you can take the top part of those solar stake lights and place them in mason jars. The glass amplifies the light. For more light, get some of the glass pieces from another store and fill the bottom. It makes more light and stabilizes the jar.
🍝 I can usually get some good deals at Dollar General on Saturdays using the five dollars off coupon and digital coupons that the store has combined with their weekly specials. some of the best items to get with those coupons is toilet paper, paper towels, laundry, and dish soaps
A tip on those little solar yard lights....... Those lights make THE PERFECT night-lights for bathrooms......not too bright, just a gentle glow......we use 4.... Kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms.....yup..... almost the whole house is navigable
@@georgiafrancis9059 on cold days.....wrap up in a wool blanket in squat/sitting position.....put tealite between your feet.....you will be toasty warm.....used this method many years on hunts or just sitting on back porch.....also 3 tealites will boil water......tealites very useful tool..... Annnnd save your old candle wax and use burned out tea light metal cups to make yourself some more tealites....yup
I use the digital coupons along with the 5/25 on Saturday to help with building my stock pile. Also, the canning jars at Dollar General, I only use for dry goods. One of the few items I only use a name brand for.
Dollar General stores have powder milk but it sales out quickly. Also they have the creamy Valetta cheese package and i keep them in a container with a lid in the cool pantry and they are good for 6 to 8 months after the date on the packet. It may last longer than that, but my granddaughter took the one i was saving for shelf stable test. She said it was great and she's kind of picky. She will learn.
🍝Jara great video presentation. 👍 Thank you for covering Dollar General. You are so right, this is the only option in many rural areas. Hey, when you try those meatballs please let us know how they taste. I’ve seen them but never tried them. I’d like to know if they’d be worth adding to the pantry. 🙂
Checking out DG is on my list. I want to see what they have in the $1 aisle and what canned food they offer. It's always such a challenge navigating through there Great video. Thank you! ❤
I know this is a vid about $ General, but you can't beat the $ Tree for dry beans and rice. They offer several varieties of each and, for a buck 25, they are a consistent and yummy go-to in my household. Also check out the spice section.
Thanks for the time to make this video 😊 I live in rural America where dollar generals are available so I just keep my eyes peeled and pay attention to prices and expiration dates. Sometimes I actually prefer them to big box stores with practically no lines in checkout. I’ve tried some of the store brand food items and they are hit and miss.
Our nearest DG is always cluttered, dirty and looks like it’s just been looted. Your store looks far better. I think I’ll stop in one in another town and see what I can see there!❤️🇺🇸
IMHO, every prepper needs to learn how to make cowboy coffee. Whole coffee beans store much longer, so having multiple ways of brewing it is a good idea. I watched a Kent Rollins video a while back and tried it for a period of time. It really does taste good and is much smoother than any other method. I did cheat a bit and used a metal mesh strainer to keep the last remaining grounds out of my cup.
🍝 I like to get the bleach off of the $1 aisle! I'm not brand picky on my bleach. There's several things on that aisle that is cheaper than getting at the $1.25 tree!
The Canning jars at Dollar General are a good buy and they're a good product.I have pressure canned with them and have had no issues.I also use them in my with my lit attachment for my food.Saver to back in seal things and I've had no issues.Water bath pressure or vacuum ceiling. I usually wait until the end of the season and buy a lot of their canning jars because they're very good. I take leftover rice and dehydrate for homemade minute rice.
Prior to Fall of 2019 we were already storing some extra toilet paper like a couple of Sam's Club size packages. Christmas came and one of our son's didn't know what to buy us for Christmas so they got us and his in-laws large packages of toilet paper and paper towels. It was funny at the time but not as funny when the STHF happened in the Spring/Summer of 2020. We now keep no less than 4 large packages of TP and a couple of paper towels in reserve at all times. We live in the city so we have a lot of options. We also have a couple of salvage store options like your Mardens in Maine and ours carry a lot of food items and generally they have pretty good shelf life. It's not expired stuff.
Dollar General is one of a few options in my area. I have chose not to use them because the selection is terrible, the company is terrible and going th 70 miles for a real "town" is 1000 times a better choice for health and budget.

I got my lanterns from Dollar General and still get my toilet paper there. We didn't have Dollar Trees, and the only grocery stores were local mom-and-pop stores or chains, in my area of rural Kansas so I grew up on DG. I love the place. Edit: A few Dollar Generals will get a small fresh produce section if absolutely necessary. When the local grocery store in a small town closed, the local DG opened up their own produce. It was had maybe four displays, but it was still fresh produce.
I love my local DG. The staff is awesome but they are very overworked and short staffed. At Christmas I made goodies showing them some love. ❤ 🍝 Use the app and the coupon!
🍝 Dollar tree isn't bad but you do have to watch prices. I've used the Golden Harvest jars with no issues at all. Pressure Canning, waterbath canning and dry goods.🍝🍝🍝

Most appliances tell you not to use an extension cord. Make sure to read your owner's manual.

I haven’t shopped regularly at my Dollar General but I’ve heard that the app and coupons have good savings.

Love the $1 section. Every store has different things.

The DG near me has white 5% vinegar for $3.50 which is less than the other stores near me.

I use the 5off and get quart jars. My store has Golden harvest jars like Walmart sells.
I love using that coupon!!!
Awesome!!! That's a great deal!
Same here with the 5$ off and that is where I got my Golden harvest jars as well
Same!! I don't trust those True Living jars. China made I believe.

I found the TAG washcloths, the non-rinse ones, in the $1.00 section. There are 18 in a pack.

I would say more than 50% of what you showed at much higher prices are available at DT for 1.25.
Buy powder milk and you can use carnation milk as long as you use a 1 can to a1/2 gallon of water powder milk is better for cooking .

Shop on Saturday to use their $5 off $25 coupon. This is how I stock certain items

As an asst Manager at A Dollar General, Jara is totally spot on. She Has nailed it about this chain.
🍝 Dollar tree isn't bad but you do have to watch prices.
I've used the Golden Harvest jars with no issues at all. Pressure Canning, waterbath canning and dry goods.🍝🍝🍝
Dollar Tree (now the $1.25 Tree) is still far less expensive that Dollar General - same items 1/3rd the price from DG
A lot of empty shelves in that store. It's happening already. lol
🍝
I don’t shop at $General, but as always, you have reminded me of things I need to add to my emergency kit…like contractor bags & headlamps. 🍝
🍝🍝 thank you all of this information that you gave us today. I have a dollar store right across the street from me 😂❤

In Ga there DG every 10 miles. 😂

Not sure if you know or you may have one in your town.
Some DG's have Produce areas. Fairly decent ones.
None of the Dollar Generals I've seen in my area have this, but it's good to know. Thank you!
