As a LTL driver when I saw that the key bridge was knocked down I was in shock . I don’t think most people realize is that bridge was a key crossing for hazmat freight. This is going to throw wrenches into logistics and the way goods are delivered.

Most important is not electronic it's a -20 degree sleeping bag that is next to your bed.
I'm in public housing and our power goes down you have NOTHING untill they fix it. ( which can take hours) the apt drops below freezing in 10 minutes flat.

@@user-oe6wq7pu8d learn where the breaker is for your apartment, turn off the breaker to your apartment, to isolate it so you don't back feed the system. Then plug in a solar generator like a ecoflow, a 2000w will be fine, the delta pro 3600 is optimum. You plug it into your electrical system w what is called a suicide cord, a cord w two male ends. This will power up your apartment, it will also feed out into the grid so make sure you trip the main breaker to your apartment to isolate it, otherwise utility workers trying to repair the grid could accidentally be electrocuted. You can do this with any generator, but a gas powered will make a lot of noise and has to be ventilated most likely by being ran outside.
Most breakers are set up w two bars, a 110 volt standard plug cord will only power up one bank at a time, so half your stuff will work. A 240v cord ran into a dryer outlet will power up both bars of the breaker. For a small apartment, you could use a 110v cord and get the bar your refrigerator is wired to powered. Look into this, it's very easy to do with minimal training.

Mules can serve several purposes, and there are a lot of things you can do yourself regarding caring for one. Research and learn health issues. Especially hoof care. They almost never need shoes, but they do need hoof trimming. Or you could barter with someone who's a farrier.

I survived hurricane Wilma. No electricity or hot water for two weeks. Been there. Keep your gas tanks full, have multiple. Fill only gas 10:49 approved containers. Gas grill tanks, have at least 2-3 filled. I cooked every meal, including morning coffee and dessert on my grill. Be sure your grill has a gas burner to heat water. Stockpile paper products, paper plates, paper towels, tp etc .Start canning, dehydrating and freeze drying anything you can. I had a Swiffer sweeper for hard floors and wet for washing. Bleach is important as is vinegar.

Just had this happen, as a single father with zero help, still recovering from almost dying from Covid, the power Co was supposed to give me a extension, but didn't, so went 3 days without power, needed to come up with $700, but as a prepper, I had a portable solar panel, power station/banks, 60ah of ebike batteries on my ebikes for bugging out that double as power banks as well, have USB light bulbs, & pretty much anything you'd need to make it as comfortable as possible & IT DID JUST THAT, even my son was fine without it, I kept telling him to go to his mom's, but he wanted to rough it out with his 'ol Dad. 😔

Then, take it to the gas station when u top of the vehicles gas tank and refill the portable gas can. Problem solved. You'll forever more have fresh gasoline when u need it.

Your waste water plan is great if you're on a septic system. However, if you are on a municipal waste system it will be worthless during an extended power outage and the sewer system starts backing up into your house. I have a shallow aux well also but I worry about it getting contaminated when I also have to dig an out house in my small yard. I also worry about how what the neighbors do will affect my plan.

Excellent point about storage batteries! They ARE the weak link in the use of solar energy. Deep cycle lead acid batteries are a cost-effective way to store self-generated power, but they're only good for a certain number of charge/discharge cycles. They lose storage capacity gradually, but don't count on them for more than 2 years of continuous use. Lithium and other chemistries will hold up longer, but costs are much higher.

However, if I’m not mistaken, all of the plants that operate the fuel pumps that send all of the gas to the various homes and businesses, operate using electricity. If there’s no electricity, then the pumps don’t work. If the pumps aren’t working, then the fuel in the pipes quickly dry up

That being said, I'd have at least a 420 lb tank of LP as back up to the N gas. I'd set up the regulator on the LP tank so the gen could still run on it as well.

I am not too worried about cold weather situations, but my big concern is the power being out for a long period in the summer. I pretty much need AC to maintain life...I have heart issues, and can not breath in the heat. (Without AC, I likely would be out of action within 24 hours. and likely toes-up within 72 hours)
I have an inverter and generator that runs on both gas and propane, and I have enough fuel to run for about 6-7 days if I hunker down in one room. Shortly after that, well, I guess the marauders will get all my supplies and stuff.

Some of the best batteries I have used are eneloops. Available on Amazon, they are more expensive but I've had them last 5 years. Remember to run them down quite low before recharging. Once recharged, they can be stored for up to a year and lose only 30 percent of their charge . I have eneloops I've used for 5 yrs before going bad.

First there are videos on TH-cam that is definitely the best way to learn this because cars are expensive and it can be messy 👍 I also recommend everyone have a couple of rolls of window screen and screen repair tape “your going to want to keep bugs out during SHTF. Quick Tip - your goal when dehydrating is to remove moisture not cook so air flow is as important as keeping the heat low (I have seen people dehydrate meat on their counter top in front of a window with a fan.
Bonus tip: you can sand the paint off a satellite dish 📡 and use it to focus the sun to start fire 🔥 or boil water. Remove the LNB aka the eyes 👀 from the end and that is the focus point for your non reactive pot. Preferably the pot stand and the dish stand are separate so you can adjust the angle as the sun moves through the sky

@@annsaunders5768 I recommend looking up some videos on TH-cam that’s where I learned the car and the countertop tricks. I do recommend trying it while we live in this world of abundance. Dry air is more important than heat - you’re trying to dehydrate not cook (Similar to smoking). Also different types of meat require different temperatures to make safe when certain pathogens exist (example salt water fish is safer than fresh water fish) I’m still in the learning process and don’t have a quality reference for this process. My original comment was to present some alternatives that people may not think of if the power goes out and they are standing there with a months worth of food that will otherwise spoil 👍

IDK anybody willing to do that. Some people I know don't want to pay for a bottle of water to put away for a possible emergency. Besides, there isn't anyone I need to talk to for that amount a month. Go to thrifts stores and get shirts, sweaters, jeans, etc for really cheap, regardless as to what color or how much. When SHTF and EMP, you will have to repair your own cloths. Also, pay attention to where there is any used tires lying around. Just as long as the tires are not steel or wire belted, or if the outer layer of rubber is held together with string, you can make soles for shoes when your shoes wear out. Also stock up on basic home hardware like pvc pipe, glue, nails, screws, some extra lumber, paint, water sealer, etc. bleach is way tooooo valuable for water purification.

    I bought 5 garbage cans for $100.
    (2) black cans for “Humanure” (there are many books and videos on this topic 👍) I bought some cedar shavings to help with odor if I’m required to keep it indoors during an ☢️ event that requires 15+ days indoors. Drill holes in the bottom of one can and place it inside the second can. Throw some cedar shavings in the bottom then periodically on top of your 💩 to keep the odors under control. Your goal is to prevent urine from entering this container but it’s not going to harm the process just add liquid which will add to odors (this won’t be a big deal when you transfer it to the yard (dig a 4-6” hole 🕳️ and set the can with the holes into it. The other can will have liquid and cedar this is obviously unhealthy to handle so add some cedar and dump it into the other can, then let sit open in the the sun till the first can is 3/4 full at which point you will just let it sit in the sun for a year and start filling the second one.
    (3) Blue cans or 2 blue and 1 more black, for water catchment (buy a roll of window screen, your goal is to keep mosquitoes 🦟 out of your rain water. Drill holes in the lid of the cans and place upside down on the can (be sure to secure them from blowing off) then use the screen to keep mosquitos out and let the water in. You can add a spigot 🚰 a few inches off the bottom of the can and even add a hose which will provide low to moderate water pressure. You could also use a black can if you want to use it as a solar water warmer 🚿“just don’t confuse it with your”Humanure” can 😂 I’m going to try and use some screen repair tape in place of the window screen but I need to do some research on the adhesive considering this will likely be drinking water at some point.
5 garage cans (PETE, HDPE, LDPE or PP) $100 “please do your own research on safe plastics for your water bins” I prefer this method because I don’t want an overly complicated permanent rain catchment system but I do want a cheap system that I can deploy in an emergency.
1 bags Cedar pet bedding $12
    3 brass water spigots 🚰 $45
1 role window screen & screen repair tape $ 22 (in a grid down situation your going to want the ability to repair screens)
    Total: $180
Stack them all together place items inside and stack in closet for “Hurricane, Solar Mass Ejection or WW 🍆 📏 Contest 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
Also solar will work with old dead batteries 🪫 when the sun is out as long as you can trick the controller into seeing the minimum voltage 👍 Jumper cables and a working 12 volt battery 🔋 works great. That said eventually we will be a 3rd world country if industry fails to ever return.
56:03 I need to get that book “📕 Thomas Book of Reference” 👍
