Serbia 0-1 England: Jude Bellingham & Jarrod Bowen Shine in Squeaky Bum Euro 24 Opener

  • Jude Bellingham kicked off England's 2024 European campaign with a stunning goal and performance against Serbia, leading the team to a 1-0 victory. Despite being only 20 years old, Bellingham's composure and control in midfield were unmatched, continuing his remarkable form from his first season at Real Madrid.
    It wasn't just Bellingham who impressed. Bukayo Saka was a constant threat in the first half, and former West Ham captain Declan Rice grew more influential as the game progressed. Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi stood out in a makeshift defence, cementing his place in Gareth Southgate's starting lineup.
    West Ham's Jarrod Bowen made an immediate impact after being introduced in the 75th minute, delivering a perfect cross to Harry Kane, who was unlucky not to score.
    While England's performance dipped in the second half, the win was crucial against a robust Serbian team. From a West Ham perspective, it was fantastic to see Bowen get some game time early in the tournament, undoubtedly making his father's campervan journey to Germany worthwhile.

    He more than earned more time on the pitch in the rest of England's games. Near immediate assist after beating his marker with the ball. Blocked 3 crosses. Won the ball back off an England turnover against 4 Serbian players. He did a great job. Jarrod can handle the physicality much better than Saka. They offer different aspects to the position and compliment each other.

      Saka played well the first half, second half not so good. But Bowen defensive work was needed in that game. Their both great options to have for England. But I can honestly say Phoden was awful and we should have seen Eze or Gorden on for him. Bad management to not spot how awful Phoden played.

    I really think the manager is the issue , we have the players but tactically I don’t think he will make the right calls in tight situations , the second performance was very familiar on another day we end up losing of drawing that game , Serbia sat off first half , when they pressed higher we struggled…and against better teams we won’t get away with it ..

    As you were Gonzo I was surprised Bowen got, but he is a quality player and he must be showing his skill and professionalism in camp. The commentators were talking about Palmer coming, but it was our Jarod. With regard to Grelish, I think off field antics and his form have not helped. He came on and within minutes made an impact. We will be seeing more……🎉

    • @beatonthedonis
      @beatonthedonis 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Bellingham seems to relish the 10 role and being centre of attention. He'd clearly be a better 8 than Trent or Gallagher, but I don't know how he'd take it. Foden doesn't deserve to start next match after that performance, and the previous one.

    Bowen works hard up top but also defends hard as well. I think should have got Eze on for Foden in the second half. Think Kane needs pace from the flanks. Got to admit Bellingham and Rice were the two outstanding players of the team. Did think Gallagher was good when he got on. Good result but we need to improve.

    I think really people need to calm down, i too was a bit frustrated upon finishing that game but Southgate has always been about ensuring qualification first before anything this was a prime example of that in action we played till we got the goal we got the goal then ensured the win. Little bit more awkwardly than he probably hoped but this basically ensures qualification unless something horrific happens in the upcoming games.
    He has spoken before about going through all previous tournemant winners and How it was done via set pieces, not conceding and having moments in matches rather than dominating a full 90 mins of a game.
    We didn’t dominated but we had moments where we could have won’t the game 2/3 nil

      Exactly….Southgate is a crap manager, some of the tactics he employs this England team is like watching Westham under Moyes. That second half was awful, didn’t have a clue how to deal with the high press Serbia were exerting . Bellingham a proper show pony thinks he’s the beez neez , not a patch on Gascoigne.

    I think Southgate made a mistake taking Palmer - watching him in training Palmer had been caught out in the truth that I've believed - that is that Palmer wouldn't even of been in the conversation about going to the Euros if he didn't take penalties at Chelsea, take the pens out and then realise that it isn't too hard to look good on that Chelsea team bcos the rest of the team are horrendous..! Imagine adding penalties to Bowen's numbers last season if he took all of ours..! Bowen had obviously impressed Southgate in training and in his appearance in the warm up game - I hope Jarrod will now get a chance to start against Slovenia if we beat Denmark - I'd love him to start against the Danes but I'm realistic, Saka played well 1st half so hopefully we win on Thursday, Bowen gets another 20 mins in that game and then starts next week Tuesday 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚒️

    Doesn't matter what Bowen does does it? we KNOW all the medias want Palmer or Gordon, simply as that. Bowen is better than either of them, but palmer is suddenly the greatest thing since sliced bread. Palmer scored more goals than Bowen last season, but ten or more were PENS, so in fact Bowen didn't rely on them. The one good thing was that Southgate brought on Bowen last night, and not palmer or Gordon.
