    This has to be one of my favorite dives thus far! Being so familiar with the lighthouse as so many of the Guernsey channel fishers feature it in their videos, seeing what lies beneath is amazing! So many weights, fishing rods, crab pots and massive amounts of tangled line. Amazingly though...nearly no fish to be found! Love the history as well. Such an interesting video! Thank you!!!!!

      Thanks Valerie. I’ve even stood looking over the railings as a child wondering what lies beneath the sea and always wanted to check it out. I have been meaning to do the video for a while now. Glad you liked it. 👍🏻👍🏻

    That was a really interesting video 👍 I never realised the breakwater was actually built on top of the reef. Great watch

    That feather duster worm was huge! What a pretty creature.

      It was a big one, we sometimes dive In a saltwater quarry and they are even bigger.

    I had no idea that lighthouse was so old! So cool to see what’s down where smash and inglorious are fishing!

      The amount of fishing weights was impressive. Keenie cleans around it every so often so people don’t get snagged as much.

    Really interesting to see round the lighthouse , I thought there may of been a few conger holes in the wall but looks in pretty good shape for the age of it eh haha anther good video mate 👍🔥

    All that line down there looks like cobwebs. Very interesting JP. You can see why there is so much fishing tackle lost.

      It’s cleaner then I remember. We will do a better clean up soon. Might even film it. There is some snaggy bits down there. 😂

    A brilliant piece of underwater footage of an area I have fished many many times. Amazing to see what the lighthouse footings actually look like, thank you for a brilliant video 👍👍👍

      Sam is a good lad. 👍🏻👍🏻 cleaner then I remember it from a few years ago when I dived it last. Could do with a good clean. Richard our skipper does go down and cleans loads of rubbish from there every so often.

    Thanks for the dive. We love light houses, do they open it to the public,? as we love going inside them, and have fond memories of one we use to go to regular and take the children, they are spectacular building's, and for the age of them and the storm's they withstand ,...they are amazing building's,...also as radio enthusiasts every year there used to be radio contests of light houses on the air, from around the world, ..They we're the day's. ... only one fish did surprise us and thought there would have been more,... we used to catch big brown edibles from around the one we used to go to .. that kelp looked quite Tangley to swim through, so thank you for bringing us footage from below the water showing us the view which we never get to see,...also loved the drone footage giving us another spectacular view of the island, and the night time footage looked amazing, stay safe warm and well, until the next dive ✊👍✊👍

      Thanks for the good feedback. The lighthouse is always locked but I do remember going in it 25 - 30 years ago with my Dad and brother. It only really had a spiral staircase in and a light. Like you I love lighthouses. I have asked to have another look inside and do a quick video on it. Guernsey Harbours would need to grant permissions for access. The lighthouse breakwater is currently under repair so it’s not accessible at the moment. Stay safe too. 👍🏻😃

      @@scubadive well after the repair work is carried out maybe let the public in,..when safe to do so, ... they could charge a small fee ,..or ask for donations to help pay for future repairs, as they are vital on those foggiest night and days , and saved many lives 👍✊

    Really interesting and enlightening video. Does Guernsey have a routine civic plan for removing trash from their waters?

    • @scubadive
      @scubadive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No is the straight forward answer to that but local groups do carry out clean ups all over the Island. The beach cleans are always a big thing. When it comes to under the sea it’s a different story. I know one Local dive club/shop carries out bay cleans. The island is very clean but you can get areas which are very hard to get to, such as this location. It’s right in the mouth to our main commercial harbour.
