- We Spoke and they listened!! In this video I take a look at the new Phoibos Kraken watch. A microbrand that I feel is doing everything right with improvements to quality, manufacturing and design. I would love to know what you guys think of this watch & so would Phoibos.

Stunning looking watch. It's heavy but after a while you get used to the weight. Lume is awesome. Whilst night fishing it shone brightly in the moonlight. Big negative is their QC. Check your watch well as mine had a scratch on the seconds hand.
Nice watch, beautiful bracelet. The face on back makes me think of Mr. Peanut!

This a fine watch. No downside as far as I am concerned if you are looking for a stainless steel sport watch. Great value for the money.
Always liked a datewheel tjat matches the dial. Makes a much better look. Feels more solid designwise

Hi Michael, great! One of the first reviews about this new Kraken. I like it and i like also this microbrand. I own two PHOIBOS: A Wavemaster and a Apollo Titanium and i´m impressed about the quality by price. I also think the brand's now independent design is great. The way to go with this model using Miyota 9015 rounds things off really well. The watch straps design comes from the "Yema Superman Heritage 63 Scales (limited edition)".
Thank you for commenting. I agree I am beginning to love this brands ethos and independent design. Okay a few Qs have been borrowed from other brands but in the main it’s their own designs.
This one the build quality is a step above the Eagle Ray and I thought that was good. I can’t vouch for another model as I have not seen in person the back catalogue.

Haha, yes the face is not unseen but I find it a quirk that is funny. Still an excellent caseback design .

I've heard those 12/6/9 indicies described as "beaver tooth" which makes sense to me.
I have not heard this but I like it! I may have to use that one in the future so thanks for that.
At first glance the center portion of the bracelet reminds me of a reptile or fish skin motive.
Nice watch. If i were designing this dial I would have made the 9 o'clock marker identical to the 3 o'clock marker. Thought that was Morse code in the back, but it doesn't translate into much. Perhaps the could have gone with Morse code "SOS" instead of the random lines/dots, especially considering that is the message the ship would be sending during a Kracken attack! For me, put it on a copier and reduce it to 95% size and I'm in! Good vid. Keep at it!

Yes 38-40mm is still the sweet spot but as it had no mate end links it sits just about right for me. Larger than I am used to with all my vintage watches but I do like this one. It’s very well made .
The bracelet looks exactly like the one on the Bulova Telc (accuswiss) watches. I nearly bought one just for the bracelet but I didn’t care much for the watch itself.

Great indepth video Mike. Nice job, nice watch. I don't care for the double markers at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock. It looks very crowded to me. Maybe it's just me being use to Seiko dials. I see the face as well. Lol looks like the old man in the moon made of cheese face to me. Lol anyway have a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!!!!!

The Triangle on bezel pip, would have been much much better in gold imo.. I think its crying out for abit of gold else where, to set off face. This is the colour option i woukd have chose, but now, id prob go diff.. Great vid, cheers😁

Ya Mike, lovely watch!. Just too big for me, this is being picky but would a cyclops on the date look better?. I think I would prefer the last one you reviewed, apart from the hands that is!. Thought you would have chosen the blue one!!. Happy Christmas🌲. Adrian
Hi Adrian, Eva chose this. I was into the green one to be honest. 41mm is on the big size but I have a Seiko this big too and as long as the bracelet does not stick out from the case it makes them wearable. Thanks for tuning in as I know not everyone watches my reviews!
I’ve actually got more to do on a timescale too but then I will be knocking them on the head for a while to do what’s more liked and that is the repair videos.
Yes, Aragorn watches are enormous. But they cater to a specific audience that adores their watches, and they sell out really fast of pre-orders and stuff. So it pretty much for a micro-brand comes down to knowing your market.
This one at 41mm is about my limit. I have bigger watches but I prefer 38mm
That said a diver watch I guess should be big.
That is a pretty decent watch, 51mm lug to lug does seem a bit on the big side, but I'm sure
that plenty of people wouldn't mind that.
Yes, I can see the smile on the Kraken's face, (case back) I think it is probably intentional.🐙
Date wheel colour change complication, probably something I would never use, I prefer the
gold because it matches the rest of the dial font.
The price does seem about right, it isn't ridiculously high when it could have been and the
general build quality gives an air of confidence that you haven't been ripped off.
Just to add that I know nothing about this brand.
From the quick flash of their catalogue, I found the green dial to be very appealing. 🐙👍
All said, it was a good review of a great and beautiful watch.

I think they are a brand going places. I have been fortunate to see quite a few micro brands recently and I seem to compare them to the quality of Phoibos .
I love this brand thanks for reviewing as i had never heard of them my fav is the white eagle ray. Love that design. The prices are too much for me, but for what you get i think they are great value for money.

By the way, I heard you mention or speak about restoration. Do you do any work on the PT5000 movement by chance? I have a brand new Proxima 300m Diver that seemed to n have been running just fine when it arrived, then 3 days later, it just totally bricked and stopped running. I know a long shot, but by chance, would you have any advice or ideas as to what could possibly be the root cause? Lastly, do you do any movement servicing repairs, and of course, I would gladly pay you. Thank you for your time.

The Phoibos site doesn't have prices for this model. I am finding that I prefer either a day-date watch or one with no date at all.

Wish they kept the lug width at 20. 40+mm case and 22mm lugs just make most watches too big for my liking.

If you are referring to the bezel then it was out by one click on the video outside. I did not notice it until after filming. However it does line up perfectly when in the right position.

Hi Mike. I am new to your channel and have been binge watching some of your videos since last week. I have a Citizen eagle 7 automatic watch which is about 20 years old. It has never been serviced but then again I haven't worn it for ten years. I believe it has the Miyota 8205 movement through searching as it has a day/date calendar which Citizen often used at that time.
I have never had the back off it so I can't be certain. Until a few weeks ago (after wearing it again) it has run great but is now stopping shortly after a shock move.
Have you got any videos of servicing this movement in any other branded watch (which is believed to be in others) because I simply want to get this going again without paying a hefty price to have it serviced. All other videos I have watched have not shown the great detail on disassembling or reassembling this type. If you have then I would feel more confident to have a go at it myself. I believe I have the skill and tools but I am short of confidence.

A Miyota 9015 high beat. Same as the Ironwatch that had a display back. Everyone commented on how boring the movement looked so I didn’t want to show it in this one.
I think you SHOULD wear a wetsuit when you review dive watches so you can test the fit. Might go viral. And I'm pretty sure it would be Eva-approved.
The red one has a much nicer clock face, not these ugly hands, and bloated blocks..
