- We met Matt Greiner from August Burns Red at a show in Munich and asked him a few questions about music, life and his faith in Jesus Christ.

Yes! Meridian is such a great song. It’s great to hear a band member actually acknowledge this song, out of all their great songs, how truly powerful Meridian is.
I love this band so much. Their message is really great. My girlfriend doesn't even really listen to them but she loves their lyrics because of the way they speak about Christ. God bless these guys.
Thank you Matt for showing my children how to not be ashamed of your faith in Jesus Christ. I will see you on the other side my brother in Christ.
BTW you guys rocked the house in Pittsburgh last weekend. I was there with my wife and two oldest boys. Thought the floor was going to collapse...seriously!
Matt lives what he says. When my nephew Mikey was diagnosed with terminal cancer Matt reached out to our family and offered to do a video chat with Mike giving encouragement and hope and also did a fundraiser for the medical cost. He was the hands and feet of Jesus at a time when we were in the desert. Thank you for bringing some color and helping create a masterpiece out of our disaster ❤️
Funny thing is, Jesus and metal actually go perfectly together.
I'm still trying to understand how this can be true.
When people talk about God they either think of him being just holy and untouchable, or the all loving God that is quick to forgive.
God is way more than that, he is the most powerful being ever, and if you have ever read the book of Revelation, you know the end of times is gonna top every scifi blockbuster movie combined.
So yeah, it goes great with metal.
Also, the death of Jesus was the most brutal thing ever.
Matt, what a great testimony AND one of the best drummers I've ever heard. I do know this: IF GOD IS WITH YOU, WHO CAN BE AGAINST YOU? Play on brother, play on! My love goes out to you a wonderful part of "The Body of Christ"
I have so much respect for this guy. he is starting to become one of my favorite drummers.

I'm Honestly glad that I found a metal band where the members are actually Christian such as me and are open enough to say so...Like now a days it's hard to listen to band like Parkway Drive as a Catholic because i very much did love the sound but then came Atlas and in which had songs such as Blue and the Grey which was beautiful to some standards and Slight of Hand where I was puzzled like "I know there atheist but why these lyrics?" And then there is Ire...On top of that when your parents hear that and get upset...Just don't catch the wrong idea, I believe that's how they feel and i'm cool with that some what. And they were one of bands I loved to listen to (especially The Negotiator off of Don't Close Your Eyes)
It just warms me to find a band like this and the songs and the lyrics...they may stray from the traditional Catholic music but keep the hidden messages. Like I truly believe that God can work in such mysterious ways for the better good. And I'm not to ok about admitting that i've listened to (great sounding) songs with horrific lyrics. I just hope other people that also like August Burns Red come to at least comprehend the point I wish to get across.
Panda guy Yea, old parkway didn't mention their athiesm very much.
I can relate to it. August Burns Red gives me the freedom to listen to music that suits my taste without worrying about lyrics conflicting my beliefs/mindset. I still listen to Architects and Parkway Drive but don't have to worry about the lyrics disturbing my parents or anyone around. I am not a Christian, but I do believe that the underlying themes to every religion can be related, and at the end, we must surrender to God.
I cannot begin to explain how much I love this band and Matt as my fellow brothers in Christ. He's officially my favorite drummer and ABR was the best concert of my life! God Bless August Burns Red for years to come!!!

I just love that the band is breaking the stereotype of people who like metal as a genre of music.. if your words are for and of God, I think it really doesn't matter to Him how you send them off, be it singing, prayer, or screaming your lungs out.. it is said God looks at your heart, and the band is just the perfect example of it..

Amen! Praise the LORD for giving you clear discernment to understand HIM. I am very motivated by your video as I am struggling my life goal as a christian. Thank you very much for sharing this video. I wish I had found it much sooner. As for the negative view on your worship style using your talent, drum and rock music, it is between you and GOD. HE knows your heart. As we have more and more non-denominational churches and modern worship forms, there is equal amount of criticism. It is difficult to say they are right or wrong without knowing their heart and motive. However, one thing I know is to only look up to JESUS and worship HIM with ALL I have whether it is culturally suited form of worship or another. If your pure worship is accepted by GOD, I am sure it will also touch many people to glorify HIM. Many blessings to you and your loved ones Matt.

Well like what Matt is saying is there are some Christians believe that hardcore and metal is straight form the pits of hell. There are metal bands that are about the Satan an all that other stuff but this band is Christian metal and clean lyrics and not nasty stuff coming out of Jake's mouth and you are correct on that bro God doesn't hate metal I take your word on that one.

+Kingston Glass listen to their song redemption. Their music is very much pointed to God. The album title Messengers is also a clue. Or you could just look up their lyrics. They are a christian metal band buddy.

This band is awesome. I am a practicing Buddhist and have been metal fan all my life. Although I don't necessarily agree with 100% of the perspective. Jesus has always been cool in my book and I respect this guys view. It's great to push the envelope and step out of the same old in music. Positive message is good for a change. Jesus is metal!! so is raw expression of heart and mind!

Our world is going to the distraction.People are so unfaith and that's the results. Everyone cares about themselves. But Jesus says to love all people. Even the poor. Those who leave on the road. So guys if you believe in god and Jesus faith means is nothing if you don't love the whole world.You will go to god only if you do good things

Matt doesn't need to justify religion in your heart. He simply was asked the question of why Jesus was his lord and he said it was because e has always gotten his strength from him and he relies on it to life his life. He blames his success in his ban to the glory of Jesus Christ and his band is his ministry to the world. Read their lyrics and you will see his love of god that fills his heart.
They give me hope I can succeed with a metal band even though I’m christian. God worked a miracles with them and skillet and I believe if the intention is for God he can help you

How is believing in something small minded? Wouldn't choosing not to believe in anything just because you can't see it and explain it small minded? Not believing in any possibilities beyond your perception? No one said religion justifies what we do, it's something we believe with our hearts, and makes us and others happy.

I never belive in god but I really respect august burns red for beliving in god. my understanding for beleiveing in god is that you need to help the poor, help the sick, heal the sick, help the broken, heal the broken, understading faith believe in faith be one with god. There are so many different types of religions that praise god such as jew, mulsim, chatholics, hinduism, buddism, christianity, mormon. Which one is right to god, if so how are they the right one. Then you also got the evangelist who believe in the gospel, but also vote republican, and then take money from those who are christian as well. How is it that god the right way of life, or if it is corrupt by the church, or evangelists that god is the one you need to believe in.

Unreal how many people come here to spew hate. If you don’t believe in God thats totally fine, but at least have the common decency to be tolerant of those who do. If you can’t do that, then that puts you in the same boat as all the other bigots in the world. Believers and non-believers can absolutely coexist but it requires us to work together, not against each other. To each their own, and all that.

Because just like Matt him and I would be NO WHERE without God. Without God giving us the gift of life every day to play. The gift to just being able to move around and perform our craft to any degree. All glory goes to the king always man.

In the Bible it states that that in the OLD Testament in the book of LEVI and Joshua "Every musical instrument is from GOD and blessed, sanctified, made holy unto us for him and for us to be able to play songs for him and bless ourselves to grow in creativity and just enjoyment for us, in a great blessed way, it is not easy to understand since the sociecty brainwashes us to think that "deathmetal" is against God, but that is foul language and untrue, the message, the instrumental vibrations creates JOY, LOVE, FUN, yes believe whatever you want to believe, do not let religion fool your faith in God, for a religion is not a relationship with God.
God recommends certain things in the bible but he does not take away what he gives and promises, he promises FREE WILL, FREE CHOICES, but he recommends us to be obedient, humble and kind unto others so we can be humble unto our creator, who just wants to listen, be with us, learn from him and he just wants a strong relationship with us without craving us to give him anything back, he has principles, orders, authority, reasons yes like Matt states in the video, but if he is GOD, then we do not understands what SIN is Gods judgement, wrath upon us if we disobey and keep sinning conciously if we are saved, nobody is saved by one prayer, you are saved by continous, prayer life, blessing others, taking care of the poor, living the life of a good moral, like we should do. Amen.

i love the guy but his response to "why jesus" is the same response that most Christians give and they refer to the bible immediately. That doesnt cut it for rational thinkers ..(rationalist being an awesome sing makes this an ironic lol) Hes has basically condemned everyone who isnt a christian to his religions "hell" by saying that. "either jesus is the only way to heaven or the whole of Christianity is wrong" Thats a very stilling quote and helps raise a massive issue that many have.
I believe in science also. I believe in god, I'm a Christian. However, I don't believe science doesn't exist, i know that everything has a way it works, and can be explained through science. I believe we are all created by God, and the universe was created by God. I know that science can show how things work, but I don't believe they just came from nothing. Even a lot of atheist scientists are saying now that evolution is impossible. That's my belief, I'm not trying to start an argument :)
Another example of parents programming him to be the way they want him. Hes a great drummer and a great guy, just his views are skewered.

I think you were programmed by society, and that your views have been twisted by what you have learned by your friends, and at school. I'll tell you now that Jesus lives, and all though you may not see him, you can definitely see his works in our lives.

I'll just outright say it. From 10:50 - 11:11 I "believe" what he means to say but fails to because of a lack of understanding of his own philosophical qualms, is that people seek to do good to others. Having a family is good and all, but if you achieve nothing and don't interact with anyone, how do you know you lived. My understanding of religion is that jesus or jebus, or shiva, or the flying spaghetti monster has nothing to do with that.
