Why haven't any of these food companies figured out how to do this for us? It would be great if they could compress a days worth of food into a shape that was easily packable and the various days would efficiently fit together. Every time I do this, I seem to get this random pile of bags that never really fit together in my pack right.

Aaron S I bought LYO and it was presented really well but yeah quite agree. Maybe a preservative issue 🤷🏻‍♂️

I ordered the LYO kit based on your recommendation. It just arrived today. How close to MDS did you do your vacuum packing? Just a week or two before the race?
The one thing that I really like about LYO is the variety that the kit forces on you. In the past I've pieced all the meals/snacks together and basically ended up with more or less the same salty mush every day of a race.
Was there anything from their package you didn't take? Or, that you'd recommend not taking?
When vacuum packing, was it more efficient to make something flatter or fatter? Am I trying to turn everything into pancakes or hot-dogs to make them pack most efficiently?
Thanks for the help. I've watch a lot of MDS videos and yours are VERY helpful.

@@aarons6730 I packed about 3 weeks before but it took about week to complete - I tried to get more flat that hot dog shape but never had an issue with them chafing. I put a foam mat in my pack to cushion my back a bit. I struggled with the sprialina bars and choc bars - def wouldnt take the spiralina bars. Did you go veg or meat? I really like the variety. The soups are awesome. The fruit recovery drinks are a bit messy but very whoelsome. You will really enjoy eating them. Oh yeah the breakfast millet I didnt like but forced it down. A couple days I woke up with little appetite which is to be expected. Glad my vids are helping. :)

@@ultrarunneradam I went for the meat. I don't think something like this is a good time to drastically change my diet, although I definitely understand the merits of going meatless temporarily or permanently. Lots of time before the race, so I'll probably try a few things out and just reorder whatever I eat. The other stage races I've done, my appetite always decreases as the days wear on. I've always attributed that to the lack of variety, but it's probably just being exhausted.
In your other video, you have the PHD jacket. What size did you get or did you go for custom fit? I'm probably your same height, but a 'bit' heavier. For lots of things I'm in between a small and a medium. ( My sleeping bag from them just got delivered today. I'm absolutely amazed at how little it weighs. 511 grams )

Hi Adam, Another great video, I was told by one of the freeze dried big companies there can be issues travelling through customs at the airport with vacuum sealed food in bags? Did you face any challenges? Also assuming you took it all as hand luggage ? thanks

No challenges and do you know I can’t remember if I took my food as hand luggage. Probably though. It’s food so should be ok 👍
