Knuckle Boom Truck For Firewood

  • In today's project we're using the Ford F550 knuckle boom truck to load and deliver some Oak and Cherry cooking firewood. We'll fill a custom made rolling rack, load it on the truck, deliver, and unload right in the customer's garage. After checking out his new Lang smoker, we'll hit the road to pickup some firewood logs. We'll mark and cut the logs with a Spencer Tape and Stihl MS500i chainsaw, and then use the knuckle boom and log tongs to pickup and load the truck. After strapping down we'll transport them to the wood yard where the Kioti tractor and grapple easily unloads them.

      Super blessed to have access to great equipment and a great network of folks that help me out. Couldn't do any of this without them. I really enjoy being able to share it on here. Always good hearing from you. Thanks so much for watching!

    I like the racks for restaurants. Easy to move around and to use right off the racks. However, I do not have any restaurants as customers yet. The bags are working well for the customers I do have. Booms are the way to go for doing firewood. I use the heck out of mine. Love your work. Carpe Diem!

    I watched this video many times! It is very informative and helpful. You make even the toughest of jobs so much more efficient when it comes to you. I thought that truck cranes with this specification were not available in Japan, but after checking, it seems that they are available. I think it is difficult to get a used one, but I would like to get one if possible.

      Really appreciate your kind words! Funny you mention the Japanese knuckle boom trucks. I have actually been looking at a couple on Japan auto auctions to import to the states. Much more compact and seem to be very well built. Thanks as always for watching!

    Will be watching,
    Note to self:
    Add hydraulics to the straight trucks ,flat bed knuckle boom truck.😊
    Do you ever wish that you had stake sides for that bed ?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we first got the truck, we were thinking of sides, but the more we use it, they really aren't necessary in our application. Having the rail and stake pockets, we can always add sides if needed, or 2x etc. Permanent sides would also get in the way of the boom operating sometimes. Always great hearing from you. Really appreciate you watching!

      As long as I'am dreaming,
      A 12,000 pound hydraulic winch in either the front or rear bumper would com in handy ,now and then

      Appreciate the kind words! I've only seen a few others on the internet that are spec'd the same as this truck. I'm not sure what this one cost new, as we picked it up used. We've priced a new truck built about the same and it was in the $110k range. Thanks so much for watching!

    Growth is good & it looks like a exceptionally nice development, however I get a little pang of sadness when I see those farms get sold & broke up into lots. Do you have a surcharge for the racks or just rely on the honor system of getting them back? I’m getting ready to start selling firewood utilizing cage totes & was wondering.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know what you mean. Development drives my day job, and it's awful tough tearing down the family farms to facilitate new development. Definitely makes me hold on to my property that much tighter. We typically don't leave the racks for residential deliveries, just use them to show the customer they are getting the correct amount, unload, and take them back with us. We do leave them at restaurants (no deposit), and simply switch out the empty racks for full ones. Always appreciate you watching!

      The truck is a normal F550. It's been uplifted with the Fassi F50 knuckle boom. We purchased the truck used, so can't help you from experience. However we have priced a new replacement through our local commercial Ford dealer. That would be good place to start. Appreciate you watching!
