This worked really well for the lighter spots; however, I did end up using something like a scotchbrite green abrasive pad with just some water to get the really tough spots. Both combined worked really well. I will definitely have to use the magic eraser more often and not let it build up next time. The vinegar and water solution worked great in my reservoir to clean out the internal gunk. Thanks so much for this video!
The Magic Eraser was amazing!! Tried the other methods on TH-cam . . Salt, fabric softener sheet, etc. The Magic Eraser took all the glue on the sole plate off!! Thanks
And here I am using an iron, made in the '70's, found in a thrift store It has a cord that's braided, someone (not me!) used the sole as a hammer once considering the dents, the base is crooked, the handle is missing the tip and the light is broken. I love it so much. I don't have to worry about water or lime scale build up, when the sole is dirty, I just have some steelwool that I iron over and it's clean again.
Why didn't I think of this?! I use magic erasers for everything, including the inside of dingy mugs. You're a genius. I don't have hard water deposits because I NEVER use anything but distilled water in my steam chamber. I just grab it at the grocery store. I did have a mess of old gross starch though. I used the eraser on a cold iron as you suggested and it was gone in two swipes! Unbelievable. No iron cleaners necessary. Thank you so much Erica for all your great videos.
So easy! I actually had my iron on high and scrubbed it with Magic Eraser. My iron plate was dark brown... within a couple of minutes, it was clean! Thank you!
Wow this really worked thank you .I’m renting apartment with a iron included my apartment and the iron was very dirty , so I did what you said and it work great! 😊
WOW! JUST WOW! Was ready to pitch the iron (wifey was NOT HAPPY with me making a mess of the iron!) and gave the Mr Clean Magic Eraser a try - everything came off like it was nothing. This works!
I was ironing my interface to make FaceMask and some of the glue got stuck on my iron. 🤦🏻♀️ Tried using Mr Clean Magic Eraser on a cold iron and was very pleased with the result. The glue was completely removed and I’m going to try the 1/2 water and 1/2 distilled vinegar. I’ve got some calcium deposit coming out of the iron hole so that’s next. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks and warning! Used all tips to clean the fusible interfacing and wool pressing mat fibers from my iron. Also needed to use a putty knife for some resistant fibers. Unfortunately, the intense heat from the vinegar/water steam cleaning on the towel cracked my dining room table top😥. Pandemic losses and lessons. Pressing on with face mask production. Be careful and safe.
I have a brand new iron, used maybe 5ish times and right in the top middle, it’s like it’s burnt. From day one when I plugged it in, it had a smell to it and figured it would eventually go away. It still hasn’t! I followed the manual yet that happened and still happening. I’m throwing it away if the magic eraser doesn’t remove that thing even when it cost me nearly $100 (cad). It’s a Black & Decker Professional Steam iron btw. I need to get back to sewing and this is costing me time and money.
@@erica_arndt It worked, however steam only comes out from a few holes which is weird because all holes are visibly clear. I went and bought another iron, but I will definitely use this for my new iron once it requires cleaning. Thanks!
My husband got it off. When it cooled it got brittle and he gently flaked it off with a wooden skewer. That was about the dumbest thing I have done in a long time. Lol!
It is this one, I do like it especially that it's cordless, but it stopped heating as well after about a year of hard use: amzn.to/3mMe3dC I now have this one instead and love it! amzn.to/3qCXS3K
Try the liquid *Goo Gone* instead. It's non abrasive. I removed burnt nylon off my faceplate at lowest temp setting. I soaked a black t shirt with th goo goose and rubbed surface and it wiped off immediately. I prefer this over magic eraser or any other king of abrasive.
Erica, I tried cleaning my iron's face using toothpaste, and some of it dried up in the small holes, and got stuck there. The distilled white vinegar and water technique did not seem to work, so what should I do now?
Erica, I just try first vinegar: minimum or not result at all after I put toothpaste and started to produce a chew gum smell getting stuck a put salt in a paper surface; again little success.
Nope, it stays hot really well, if you're pressing a lot of pieces you may have to put it back on the base for a few minutes before continuing on, but for my normal quilting needs, I feel like it did great!
When using the dritzs iron cleaner Do you have to plug in the iron to be able to clean the iron or can you clean the iron with the iron not plugged in and also I’m new to clean by iron so how would you clean my iron for beginners
DID NOT WORK, please give more description like how long to scrub with the magic eraser and does it have to be the name brand or can it be a non name brand magic eraser. Thanks
🪡🪡🪡 Erika ... I am AMAZED to see how many films you have released on your channel, how much work you have given to your audience. You are really special. Now, to be able to see everything, it will take me more than a day or two, but I do it willingly. Your work deserves recognition. 🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶

You just saved my iron! Thank you so much ❤
Buy a tube of Fautless hot iron cleaner in the laundry dept of your box store. Comes in a 1 ounce tube and works great
How many of us are here because we have glue on the plate from interfacing? Please tell me I’m not the only one. 😂
🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️

I have glue on my new stainless Rowenta. Aftaid to mess it up. .
Wow! We also have very hard water. Great to know about the vinegar & magic eraser. Thanks so much.
Magic Eraser works fantastic!!!
i love your wireless iron!
Magic Eraser worked like a charm! Very quick!
I tried the magic eraser n It works with a lot of patient 🙏🙏
Excellent presentation 👏
Genius!! Thank you for the quick solution.
how do you get the white scuff marks that are on the iron plate??
Hi Erica! I'll give it a try...was just about to throw it out the window!
it worked perfectly, thanks so much !
Magic eraser trick totally worked!! Thank you so much!!
Worked great! But then I noticed other areas of my house that needed eraser! So on we go to clean. lol
Just tried the eraser, works great! Thank you
Thank you going to try this on my new and old iron! Hopefully I can save my old iron!
I had been wondering if I could put Vinegar in the reservoir. I'm going to go clean my iron!
Really worked. Awesome!
It really does work thanks for sharing this video
Thank you 😊

Oh goodness!
Wow, like seriously, Thanks for the illustration! Very Helpful :-D

Oh, sorry, I would try and contact them to see if they warranty their products.

That's a very unique iron, my I know where did you purchase it from??😊
It's this one: amzn.to/3T3izFy
I have this same iron and I tried to iron a nylon hair band and it melted to the iron would the magic eraser work on that?
Oops! I would try it and see :)
My husband got it off. When it cooled it got brittle and he gently flaked it off with a wooden skewer. That was about the dumbest thing I have done in a long time. Lol!
Erica! Thanks for the pro tip! Also is it bad that I didn’t even know that cordless irons exist?!? 😄
It’s a Panasonic. I have one and love it 😍
Awesome solution! Thanks so much.
Thanks Erica! Worked great.
Thank you! Magic Eraser did the trick!
The magic eraser is great but when heated produces harmful chemicals! It should only be used when the iron is cooled completely
She said that in her presentation to use it when cool.
Vinegar and water always good for cleaning the holes 😜
I will give this a go although my iron is tefal plated so hope it works as well
what is tefal plated?
@@rickjames5998 similar to a Teflon frying pan, totally different surface
Geesh, your iron is already nice and clean.
Thank you for your help!
Your iron looks so lightweight. ❤️May I ask what name brand?

don't use tap water. use distilled water instead. no buildup
She said that!
My Rowenta says no distilled. Hummmm. ?
@@cybersecretary I have noticed that some of the newer irons are saying that you can just use tapwater now
Erica, I tried cleaning my iron's face using toothpaste, and some of it dried up in the small holes, and got stuck there. The distilled white vinegar and water technique did not seem to work, so what should I do now?
I would try the Magic Eraser, those things get off almost anything!
Erica Arndt Will do, and thank you, Ms. Erica!
Erica, I just try first vinegar: minimum or not result at all after I put toothpaste and started to produce a chew gum smell getting stuck a put salt in a paper surface; again little success.
Why not try with coarse salt?
What kind of iron is that? I love it !! No Cord!! :)
It's a Panasonic Cordless, here's the one I have: amzn.to/2f20HYy

Thank you, - I have another question - have you seen you're iron doesn't stay hot or doesn't heat up enough?
Nope, it stays hot really well, if you're pressing a lot of pieces you may have to put it back on the base for a few minutes before continuing on, but for my normal quilting needs, I feel like it did great!
Nice how often should I clean my iron? I just cleaned mine using your tips, : ( was it clogged.
I don't know, I just clean mine when it starts looking like it needs it :) Or after I use fusible batting. That stuff tends to gunk up my iron!
Fantastic, thank you!
Perfect! 👏👏👏👏👏
so I have a question? Why couldn't you use the magic eraser on the soleplate first then warm us the iron and clean all the steam holes?
That might work too :)
thanks
What kinda iron is that?

When using the dritzs iron cleaner Do you have to plug in the iron to be able to clean the iron or can you clean the iron with the iron not plugged in and also I’m new to clean by iron so how would you clean my iron for beginners
Is this kosher
That's a strange looking iron. What brand is it??¿
Panasonic Cordless NI-WL600 and I LOVE IT!! amzn.to/2yjKbxZ
Looks vary easy to do.

Thanku
EXCELLENT
just warm up the iron, place aluminium underneath it and spray oven cleaner on it watch the gunk just melt off.
Devoy Williams aluminum foil..I dont have any Mr. Clean in the house. I will get some though
Awesome 👍

"If you have a bunch of stuff in your holes" sorry, that tickled me 😂... I need to grow up.
