    Great idea but the contact area on the ground is far too small to be safe. Axle stands have at least three spread contact points for a very good reason.

    • @kdao1007
      @kdao1007 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      agreed, needs to be wider feet on ground contact

    • @simontist
      @simontist ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not a problem IF both wheels on the other side stay on the ground as shown in the video to prevent the car moving sideways or rotating around the vertical axis.
      I'm more worried about during the lifting, nothing really stopping the trolley jack from rolling forward/back and the thing collapsing. I don't see anything keeping it firmly connected and aligned to the head of the jack. That needs a better connection.

  • @mikehochheiser1090
    @mikehochheiser1090 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Concept is good. 1. I would make the bar long enough to pick up the factory jack points, but it would need a vertical reinforcement plate to carry the load. 2. I would use real jack stands to support the car in the air. Of course, by the time you do all of that, it would be easier to just buy a second floor jack.

    It needs a wider stance to be more safe. The idea is marvelous, I really like it.

      What does that matter

  • @janegerrard1073
    @janegerrard1073 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    If the jack rolls back while you're lifting it the car's coming down it's only stable in 1 axis, in the other axis you're effectively balancing the car on the end of a pipe. Once it's resting on the legs it's a little more stable but I wouldn't go under it. Also on a heavier car that seam will just fold it's not a jacking point.

  • @victoriabailey1337
    @victoriabailey1337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    How many sills is this going to ruin especially on cars with specific jacking points.You’re also only jacking on the edge of spot welded panels not on strengthened areas also as another commenter has stated it is only working in one axis.

  • @sonnyvolavongsa4354

    excellent idea. but i would make the footing bigger and longer to prevent tipping.

  • @stevemitchell9520
    @stevemitchell9520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Not a bad idea as long as the rubber covered parts both contact where the normal jacking points are front & rear. I'd also make base plates bigger to avoid tipping over.

  • @whydotufaqoff

    Should have used a couple of old brake discs as the base... Those little things will tip. I wouldn’t get under that car!!!

  • @ezwa9979

    it’s a really good concept, tell U why in a second. A few small adjustments. As said, base should be bigger, & welded or braced for any sideways not so perfect forces. top pinchweld connectors should be about 3-4” straight with a few small walls on each side & rubber on bottom of that, welded for sideways forces. top bar should be adjustable for left right extensions to find pinchweld locations on watevr vehicle. bottom jack connector should have a spot for all kinds of jacks(FYI, although car curves away the further it’s lifted, on rough or slightly tilted terrain, bottle jax & scissor jacks are only jacks that at least go straight up/down. garage jacks curve away & roll to adjust their own location, but on gravel & stuff?, other jax are beter).
    why ideas so great..
    1/2 the jacking &&& the real ingenuousness of this idea is factories/dealers have attempted to set things up so people can EITHER jack up car OR put it on jaxstands, & your invention has circumvNted that BS...
    NICE dUd👋😑

    As a mechanical engineer I can tell you that some of it is a great idea BUT the base is nowhere near large enough to be safe to work under a car.
    You would be better off having the horizontal element and jacking up with that then using Jack stands under neath once it was at a workable height.
    It would be far safer.
    Lifting one side is a great idea rather than front or rear due to access issues, just make another bar and 2 more axle stands and it would be okay.
    You definitely couldn’t lift both sides with bases like that.

    Would love to see this with a multi sleeve legs. Instead of two tubes have four and also have it on both sides of the car. Connected together.
    You would jack up and pin the first two tubes together one side then the other. Then extend down the center and jack up again. At this point you pin the second tube to the third. Repeat on the other side. Twice the lift. Then jack it up again. And pin the third tube to the fourth. For three times the lift.

  • @dh289

    I have been doing something similar by using a unistrut with the open groove end facing up to cover down facing lip on my vehicle. The unistrut spans the entire length of my vehicle from back of front tire to front of rear tire, where one would normally place the vehicle jack. There's a hole in the middle of the unistrut that fits onto my floorjack after I remove the jack pad. It works perfectly but I should add those to end supports in order to remove the jack, though it's not entirely neccesary. The mod in the video should seriously have wider foot supports. I would have made large diameter circle feet with a tapered cylinder steel or at least welded steel legs tapered. Nonetheless, good idea.

    Great idea, however ! Your applying say 1/2 a ton per wheel over two very small prices of steel 3”” x 2”” x 1/4 “ I believe that it Isn’t ’ stable and very dangerous I suggest for safety reason that you increase the area of the base plates to a square 6” x6” on each foot. The issue is like the ladies with high stiletto heals. The weight is to great over the area of the base..

    Looking at the preview image I thought it was for spanning across the underside of the car laterally (left to right) and adjustable based upon the car's width. This unit and how its used is too tippy and dangerous. Two jack stands still work better. Go back to the drawing board.

    Perfect example of a generally good idea with an awful implementation. Sorry it went straight to a "thumbs down"!
    Do you realize the damage to the panels that will occur from lifting the weight of the vehicle from those tiny support point?! It's serious damage and honestly rather expensive to repair!
    Beside that, it's SO OBVIOUS fact the base is incredibly thin. It's an accident waiting to happen! Now we are beyond vehicle damage, to the right out dangerous!
    Revised can be a real thumbs up. But as it is dangerous garbage! ;-)
