Standing lawnmowers are a thing in the US, they work like a zero-turn mower. I haven't used one but I believe people like them since they aren't as large and cumbersome as a normal zero-turn
The fact that you're standing can make it more dangerous though especially on hills and I wouldn't want to be on a standing mower for more than 3 hours that seems like it would suck
@@matthewmorgan582 It’s good for people who mainly do residential lawns since they’re not on the mower for a long time and because it makes it easy to get off the mower quickly to grab something.
I use the same mower, scag v-ride 2 as a backup to the walker 48 I mainly use. Its a nice mower to just hop on and do a small quick lawn but the stand up mowers wear you down faster than the sit downs. Mowers like the walker are the least impactful
In a professional setting, you'd change the striping by about 45 degrees every time you mow so that you don't start creating grooves in the ground from the mower going over the same spot constantly, it also allows the grass to get the proper sun light so that one side isn't in the sun more then the other, and it allows you to cut it to the proper height because front rollers will pull it up better for the blade.
Nup not so. There's no issue from the tyres either in what you say or compaction. Even on boggy ground. Anyone who mows lawns for a living knows the ground is always moving in contraction & expansion as it gets wet or dries. In winter any tracks run over the same on each mow will disappear as soil dries. As for the sun this makes no sense as there's plenty of refraction & reflection. If there wasn't the grass would do what pot plants do & grow towards the sun & would be most evident with the stalky types in spring, including daisies. I have never seen grasses do this. Cutting from a different angle when a blade of grass sits north or south or any other way, will still get the sun on the sunny side however again refraction comes into play. Where did you get this sun side idea from ?
These mowers that you stand behind are called walk behinds or like he said a standing mower, a lot of people use them for steep hillsides and for tight places a zero-turn can fit in. They are very common in the US, and they make a standing platform that you can attach to the back of the walk behind. (They also make a chair but I would not recommend it.) the walk behinds are better for smaller lawns and zero-turns are better for bigger lawns. If someone needed to see this your welcome!
I belive standing mowers are more meant to cut around the edge and throw the grass chipping onto the lawn where you then run it over with your other mower. Because of the turning radius of 0 it's easier to go around with the standing mower than your normal lawnmower
Drae: “Im no mathematician” Me: yea no joke I’m pretty sure you’re a human and not some abomination pushing an eternal cylinder flattening an entire planet
Stand up lawn mowers are very good for Industrial jobs. They take less space to transport. Making more room for more equipment. The term circumference you are thinking of is sharper turning radius. :D Wish I had one of these when I was a ground keeper at my first job!
I was shown a ride-on lawnmower advert before the video started. Hahahaha. I don't even have lawn, but I should probably consider buying one... Keep up the great videos, Drae.
I bought 2 arches of flat land pure grass! I go out on my mowers twice a month to cut it. Ive been thinking about adding trees and gardens just to up the difficulty, ya know? Living the life!
"I'm gonna collect 'em all, like some weird man's pokemon" Me: *looks outside at the multiple lawnmowers and tractors* you mean...a farmer? Just because one doesn't work, doesn't mean a part from it won't fix another one....
I think your issue with speed may be if you are playing on a computer using a keyboard. If you are using a keyboard, depressing the keys will always use full throttle speed by default design. If you want to control your speed, you should get a USB or wireless controller for your computer. Fast lawnmowers are almost uncontrollable if you cannot control the speed manually, especially when you need speed control around obstacles such as flowerbeds and trees.
I like that Drae thinks that not only did they watch his video to figure out they needed to fix a known bug, but that nobody else could have figured out the bug for them to find out from.
I’ve seen like mainly old people in my neighborhood use standing lawnmowers to cut their lawns when I ride around on my bike, it looks like an exercise so I would understand why most people use them maybe
Standing lawnmowers are a thing in the U.S., but I have seen very few people actually use them. Atleast where I live. I personally don't see why people would want to
@@christopherpeters1492 better on your back and a lot safer on hills you have about a 2 week period you have with your legs being sore after that they are a hell of a lot better then set ons
The SCAG standing mower is amazing. They all are fun but I’ve only used the SCAG one. It definitely is seen a lot here in the US especially by lawn maintenance teams.
It is infact mostly an American thing to stand on your lawn mower. EDIT: mostly used by public workers to keep the tight grassy patches in cities clean.
Drae I love your videos and I've been watching you for years but I would like to see you do some different types of videos, such as Q&As or some "Just chatting" streams, maybe do something new, or create a subreddit even, review your subreddit, would love to get to know you better and I'm sure others would too, give it a shot and see how it goes
In case anyone/Drae was actually curious about why someone would want a standing mower: Standing mowers are known for their agility and maneuverability (low center of gravity at the operator’s feet), and they’re generally more compact. Aside from the technical benefits they are also beneficial to the operator due to safety reasons (unlike a riding mower, if there’s an issue you can just hop right off without unbuckling if the mower has a seatbelt) and it’s better from a health standpoint too (jerking a mower around can cause strain and back problems, but with a standing mower your legs and feet receive the shock absorption). Now you know!
In case you didn't know stand on lawn mowers are in other countries. The achievement is about an American mentality that if you're not on your feet you're not working.
You could say this is barely "cutting" it as the best video ever but it's a bit "long" to be. While these pun's are a bit "grassy" ok I'll see myself out
Actually what you do is mow.. then line trim where your mower doesn't go.. then you blow the clippings away with a backpack blower. There is more to it. Sometimes you need to use and edger which makes a shitty mess. So then you mow it over and blow it off. And then there is the shrubs. Landscaping is a thing. California is Banning all gas powered yard equipment. I hope they enjoy the jungle.
Why aren't you just using the mower to blow the clippings towards the center so you can go over them with it? Also...Line trimming? I'm guessing that's weedeating?
@@brandondavis7777 Yeah I have seen people blow the grass into a highway I'm like dude are you braindead and you're not supposed to leave them on the public roads.

They are usually the same or pretty close to the size of zero turns.
I'm a fan of anything that isn't a push mower
Drae: I love how excited my employees are to see me

I used a standing lawn mower for a long time. It helps a lot with hills since the cg is so low. Keeps me from rolling the mower.

there is no better way to start the afternoon than siting with a mug of coffee and watching Drae do manual labor in a video games
Standing mowers are amazing. Almost impossible to tip. And are surprisingly comfortable.
Yeah my dad owns the same mower in this video except he has a 48 inch deck, and I agree it's really comfy.

Did you hear about the constipated mathematician?
He worked it out with a pencil
Drae please do not stop saying "This game sucks dont buy it" Because that phrase makes my day.
They should add an electric push mower. I just want to see Drae deal with the batteries dying on larger lawns.
Hahahahaha. Yes
better yet, an old antique lawn mower XD
old push and cut

It's actually the best lawn mower on the market today
Standing lawnmowers are used a lot in the U.S, they work really nicely.
How needs a stand mower when you can jump on top of you push-mower while going down hill? That’s the next mechanic that NEEDS to be implemented.
Yes just yes

I work landscaping and have spend countless hours on that exact same stand up mower.
I build landscaping style equipment just no lawn mowers or weekwackers
I use that exact one in real life definitely the best and most fun to use
And easy to get in backyards they have those mowers in different sizes
I will say, I’m not sure how I feel about TH-cam giving me lawn mowing ads after watching this series.

Great video that’s my favorite lawn mower I wish they would put a mulcher attachment they make it it makes me aggravate they don’t have one lol
Standing ones are better for your back unless you have an air ride seat
Drae: This is so stupidly fast!
Right after he pegs throttle at 100% for entire lawn
only using 25%-50% of the 52" deck
I use them daily and I must say good piece of equipment!!
You can also re-mow the grass clippings :P
That was so clutch.
Lawnmowerrr got to collect them all

They've added cruise control for Mouse and Keyboard operators.

They’re more compact that’s the main reason, so for landscaping companies it’s easier to fit them on trailers or the bed of a truck
You don’t have to pick up all the grass clippings you just have to clean the ones up that are on the concrete
Honey wake up drae posted!!!!

whats your setting on lawn mowing sim to make it not lag
love how the description states it's farming simulator 19

Stand zero-turns are the metta IRL, way better on your back too
Ah yes. The lawnmower game
You don’t have to pick up the grass only spray the clips in to the un cut grass then do a extra pass then on the last row
Yea I seen the landscapers around here using these. Personally I like to sit with my damn cupholder. 8000$ for a mower and I can sit and ride.
