But really she prefers to live in the Valley like Moomin, she just doesn't realize that.

That's why comic books have so much more mean spirited nature, because Jansson kind a wanted channel her frustration, someway or another. Lot of people didn't know Jansson also did lot of paintings, but usually audience and critics hate and despice those paintings. That's why Jansson really hate Moomins, because everybody loves Moomins, but no one didn't love Tove's other works.

At least the later ones are pretty serious (_November_ is, AFAICT, about depression). Re Tove's other books: go read _The Summer Book_. You won't regret it.
