Hi guys! I'm Han who actually makes the binstax. Thank you Willy for the review and hope everything is going well with you now! I was hospitalized around the same time last year as Willy so I guess that makes us sick friends *ba dum tssss
To address the two main issues Willy pointed out with binstax: I've actually considered making the crank somehow foldable and I'd definitely implement it if I was to design the binstax from the ground up, but since it's basically a modified instax SQ1, I have yet come up with a functional design that is also good looking. Plus it's more robust this way with less moving parts. But I'll look to improve the crank over the next iterations. Or just grab a bigger camera bag, man.
Regarding the door latch: it is in fact raised ever so slightly above the door by 0.2 mm or 8 thou, so it's possible for the dark slide to catch the latch while you're inserting it into the holder. I've made the dark slide holder in a way to make up for the raised door latch, so that's probably the best I can do for now. It does not happen very often if you get the hang of it.
I started the binstax project due to popular request about a year ago and you can read how it came to be on the update page: zins.tax/updates, if you're into some nerdy stuff.
Thank you Willy again for the amazing review! Also the white binstax Willy showcased in the video is the only fully white one out there, since I had massive light leak issues with the translucent white ABS/PC plastic and couldn't find a reliable remedy. I ended up scrapping 2800€ worth of parts and had to order another batch for 4000€.

The Binstax definitely is great as is, I just enjoy it so much I figured I’d point out things I might enjoy in the future so we can force you to make a Binstax ii sometime down the road muahaha

Is binstax available again?
Thanks Han for making these! I got mine at the end of December and absolutely love it. Before 2016 most of my photos were shot on FP-100C, so getting a serious replacement has been a journey. I’ve tried most of the available instax alternatives (Lomography, MiNT, Fujifilm) and Binstax is probably my favorite, certainly the best image quality by a mile. Big props to you for the design and finishing, it is top notch!

btw the purpose of the bar is to grab a corner of the instax film and push it so the rollers grab it and it's in all instaxes (although some models might implement different type of latching) in some form. it's just missing the sticker and moves automatically upon exposure.

I actually thought that’s what it’s intended function was but I wasn’t sure on that and I think Han said the zinstax doesn’t have it and works fine so figured that couldn’t be the case.

That is great idea to help one avoid dropping a light meter!. IMHO Mamiyas are beautiful cameras.
It's so useful to always know where it is too haha! Yeahh they are beautiful in their own way, but at least for me don't line up with being the most aesthetic things haha, the Contax's though 🤩

Yay, Willy!! I signed up for the waitlist on the Binstax a couple of weeks ago, this must be a sign that is was a good financial move
It was an eeeexcellent financial move in my opinion, has been so nice to keep it on hand and use it for stuff that might not be worthwhile on the Portra but is still worth photographing. Feels so much less intense than normal rb photographing for me too ahah!

Immensely happy to see this. Frequent and regular uploads are "only" for optimizing for the algorithm to give you more exposure. Important for your income for sure, albeit indirectly. But the quality of your videos is just top-notch and waiting for a new upload from you is *more than worth the wait*. Your recovery and health are paramount!
What a lovely Idea the Binstax/Zinstax is! A proper camera to expose that film finally.
The shots you showed were excellent. I'd be interested into how it compares to portra (or frankly any positive or negative film) in terms of quality...to get a feel what the quality loss there actually is. For sure it's gonna be tremendous. But the usualy instax cameras are just potatos.

Great to see you back again! I've had the binstax for a couple of months now and it's so much fun to use, especially when starting to get into flash. Nice Billionaire Boys Club sweater btw!
The first thing I did was try it with flash and it works so well once you’ve figured it out hey! Stoked you’re enjoying yours too! Also it’s like my favorite sweater hey, had it since 2013 I think and it’s still going very strong haha!
How much did you pay for the Binstax?
@@leem1440 I think it was 350-400 usd around. I believe that the purchase was worth it because of the build quality and also Han is very dedicated to this considering he scrapped a bunch of parts he already paid a bit of money for and bought better parts at his own expense in the name for his product. Also it's really fun to use. If it's within budget, I'd say go for it!
