  • Sabey Corporation developed Intergate.Manhattan into what is now the tallest data center in the world. Located in New York City, the facility presents a unique set of challenges including security, preservation and power loss. Sabey relies on its partnership with the local Cat® dealer, H.O. Penn, for emergency backup system support and critical data management.

    I just watched a two hour doc where it notes all the best electrical scientists since 1650 (nearly 400 years wow!) to my surprise Edison was the least significant. He never had a brilliant scientific breakthrough yet he gets soooo much credit. Just killed me when he brought up Edison 😂

      @krashd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, when he said "Where Edison first turned on electricity" I was thinking to myself "...in the US maybe" because European nations were already electrified, in fact it was Siemens AC generators that George Westinghouse imported from Germany because he had already seen what AC could do in Europe and he feared that if the US got stuck using DC because of Edison it would put the nation at a disadvantage.

      These are small to mid size compared to the large EMD V20 engines used in rail locomotives and marine/stationary units. The EMD V20 series is a 7.5MW stationery power plant. Those V12-16 CAT's shown are like 2-3MW each.

      Data centers usually have back up batteries that will power the datacenter for 15-60 minutes after a power outage. But this just buys time for the generators to turn on and start running. I believe the generators can create more power longer than the batteries. Maybe that will change in the future.
