I've operated a lot of equipment, I've got to say that good motor grader operators are some of the most talented operators of all. So many controls and functions to master, I'd say it's harder to learn than flying a jumbo jet!
Its interesting that CAT are bringing out new graders with the old lever pattern, wonder why, I have used both and would hands down take levers and a steering wheel over joysticks any time, specially when trimming around a kerb and traffic islands.
Great video, lots of quick info. My childhood ball coach graded our road. Gravel and snow. He could put that thing anywhere, inches from mailboxes, groomed if like an Olympic ski hill. He died suddenly tho.
I'd Have to start all over, started on a 112, pony motor start up, later 12G but that was yrs ago, man technology has changed so much, everything I ran is agent
above the hydraulic lockout switch there is a switch about the blade. what does it do? I drive a 140M but never used that button and havent got explaned to med what i does..
Blade Cushion button, kind of like a shock absorber. I've run a 16M for almost 5 years, use it in the OFF position occasionally over new roads containing a lot of large rock
i have to say tho you cant drive them at full speed with the joysticks or with the small steering wheel, these are slow speed machines, i tried to bring one to the proper grader operator who was about 15 miles away fucking wroste 15 miles i ever drove in a machine.
Trent Nelson I can definitely see that being an issue for someone but I’ve roaded this machine 30 miles or more and never had an issue. Just takes some getting used too
You've never ran a blade before. There's times when your finishing steep slopes with the machine fully articulated that almost all of the weight is on 2 or maybe 1 sidewall and I've never had one pop off the bead

Don't know about the Jumbo but otherwise yeah.
This is the best video for controls I've found, I'd love to see a run through of gps
For a guy whose first job on a blade was a 99A, this is absolutely amazing. If I came out of retirement now, I wouldn't know what to do.
You'd be fine after 20 minutes mate.
@@philmckrakin6752 I feel like a few weeks at the Local 12 training site to catch up on all the new high tech stuff would be a good idea.

These are more for the Nintendo kids. I would rather run an old gallion than this.

Totally agree it takes a master and many years of operation to operate graders.
Thank You bud, well explained, I operated the old school machines from the 90's and 2000's, Keep the videos coming bro 👍🏻🙋🏽♂️🍾
Long way from the one I ran. Open cab, gears, had to engage the gears to move the moldboard. So much better now, but so much different.

What button you use to take out my mailbox while plowing snow I did not see that one
Us dot highway maintenance guys know it's not a button. We use the mailbox gunsite on the heads up display.
Love running one of these. Super easy to control
Im 18 and want operate a grader , nice informative video 👍
When you guys are driving these graders do you have to clutch when shifting gears? I know it’s a stupid question just curious
Clear and simple! Good stuff👍
Good video. I'm learning to operate one as I'm watching.

Breaking parts n breaking hearts thats how to learn, buzzers dont mean shit write down keep going dont stop till some one tells you too

you should not articulate while stationary, you might blow a tire dude.

true it was something that had been told to me when i was trained three years ago. No need to get all hostile with the I never ran a blade comment lol
+jeff johnson lol my apologies man. There's a lot of keyboard operators on the tube uno
hahahahah I was told long ago the only people who can run a grader have never ran a grader lol
Only 14L, not good 14M
I know how the controls work. Hate the joystick controls.
