      When changing to waste setting on sand filter do you need to shut pump off first? Also should you turn it back on before hooking up hose, or have an extra person turn the pump on while you hold house under water in skimmer port?

    A couple of things to add: 1) turn off your pumps before changing positions on your filter valve. Turn off pump, change valve position, turn pump back on etc. 2) turn off the main drain and only use the skimmer drain while vacuuming or else you will lose half of your pool water to waste.

    Only suggestion, explain to us newbies what the "return jet" is. For anyone that doesn't know, if you are using a sand filter, the "return jet" is the "pool jet" that is what is normally pushing the water out into the pool while the pump is normally running, not the normal suction inlets. It's the same for cartridge filters, if you haven't upgraded to a sand filter.... DO THAT FIRST!! LOL

I’d like to install a vacuum for it. The local pool company is not sure the motor is strong enough to install a manual vacuum using the current sand filter/skimmer. Can you help me out with some advice? Don’t want to spend on a hose/head/pole if it won’t work. But at the same time avoid a $300 manual handheld vacuum if it would work.

      He does have some its how we fixed our. TL DR version is to brush the pool in the evening and shock it. LEAVE THE FILTER RUNNING 24/7 UNTIL IT CLEARS. after the shock is finished doing it's stuff, add clarifier to the pool so all the matter falls to the bottom of the pool. After it settles vacuum to waste. It worked wonders on ours but it did take a few days.

It’s definitely getting clearer now the 2nd time around and I can see a good pile of debri in the middle of the pool . I’m just wondering if I should add more shock tomorrow or vacuum and then add clarifier ? This is our first year ever dealing with algae and bad cloudy water ...

    • @GodsChild145
      @GodsChild145 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samanthapowers1857 it’s a nightmare for me right now!!! It’s such a fine fine fine particle If you stir the water very much or go too fast it will send shooting out instead of being sucked in the vacuum! When dealing with such small particles do you have to go super super super slow and take your time also if it’s going through your filters or cartridges because it’s so small of a particle add pantyhose or socks and you can do several layers. For green algae you DOUBLE the shock amount that you normally use and you shock it every single night until you kill ALL of this algae then once that happens your pool won’t be green anymore and then you’ll have to deal with vacuuming all of it up off the bottom of the pool, the only way to get it out. Example I double shocked my pool every night for a WEEK straight to get this taken care of.

    Hi, quick question. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why my pool vac has no suction. There is definitely suction where the hose is connected to the skimmer, and there is plenty of pressure through the return. But when I feel under the vacuum head while still under the water there is no suction there. My pool is equipped with a Hayward EC40 DE filter and 1 hp pump. I never had this problem until recently, so I have no choice now in spending money on a pool robot and battery operated pool vac . Can you offer any suggestions?

    • @Lughnerson
      @Lughnerson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Set up the vacuum and just let it sit on the bottom for 15 minutes before beginning. If it still lacks power, start at the skimmer end and slowly lift up the hose above the water level while listening for air leaks. Work your way all the way the vacuum head, whereupon you will lose power as it reaches the surface.

    Its June 23rd and I'm still trying to open my pool. I need to vacuum it out, there lots of debris at the bottom. I have a sand filter that has a filter mode and back wash. Should I vacuum the debris directly into the filter or set it to backwash while I vacuum? Thanks

      @emilyrose7943 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Connect your hose to the vacuum head and pole. Then hold it onto your jet. Watch other end of hose for water to come out. I'm not an expert, that's just my idea

    • @TomWilson8003
      @TomWilson8003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My water inlets are round and multi directional at the bottom of the shallow and deep end. They wouldn't provide sufficient force to push the air out of the hose.

    • @emilyrose7943
      @emilyrose7943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe find a way to submerge the hose to a depth where it will just fill by water pressure. Might need to get a helper and just get in the water 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @TomWilson8003
      @TomWilson8003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emilyrose7943 Yes, I attach the hose and pole to the vacumn, drop it into the pool and then slowly feed the balance of the hose straight down into the pool so it fills with water and then when the air is out, I feed it into the filter basket (which was previously removed) and then connect the hose to the bottom of the filter basket creating the suction.

    Hey I vacuum pool and it's clean... after filter runs at night I notice dirt comes right back in the pool, re circulated from, the filter/pump... what can possibly be the cause of this? It is a cartridge filter system

    • @jimmybare3026
      @jimmybare3026 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pushing your vac too fast will kick up the debris into the water which later resettles to the bottom. Check your filter for tears.

    • @GodsChild145
      @GodsChild145 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They could be super fine particles that are going through your filter cartridge for example soooo small they go threw nets of all kinds, in that case you can double up on the filter by adding socks or pantyhose etc. lots of videos I have seen where people have mentioned that and I’m about to try it for a green algae that I have killed and it’s at the bottom of the pool but so so so small I cannot get it out, and then whenever you vacuum the pool some of it is such a fine particle it takes barely any movement and you won’t even noticed it moved and stirred up until hours or the next day causing a repetitive cycle. Make sure to go SLOW to try and not stir it up seriously get in the water and go SLOW and watch upclose and you will see what I’m talking about. Good luck
